I know those VFX reels are made for Academy voters with the attention span of a flea, but I’d love to see the same video going about 5 times slower, with some commentary about how it’s being done.

I’ve said it before… but they really don’t give enough credit to VFX in Star Wars movies these days. It’s like… oh well we’ve all seen that before! Space ships go pew pew! When honestly it’s anything but easy. R1 looked fantastic and the fact that a few shots I honestly believed were filmed on location with CGI added on top… only to find out it was %100 CGI was impressive.

Plus whether you liked Tarkin’s vfx or not I’ve never seen anyone else come that close to being believable when it comes to a human being.

I cam out of R1 thinking they had used a look alike for Tarkin. I had no idea that it was VFX. I think it is astonishing what the did. Was watching an old Hammer fiim from the mid 70’s the other night on telly (it was awful btw) but the difference between RI Cushing and real one is so slight – it’s witchcraft i tell you!

First time around I noticed Tarkin seemed off, but I think that’s because I knew Cushing was long dead.

Subsequent viewings (And there have been a lot) I just accept him.

I think they did a wonderful job and I hope they’re not discouraged from doing it again because of the negativity around bringing dead actors to live – Which makes them sound like Dr Frankenstein!

As a 3D artist myself I am stil impressed as fuck. Especially knowing how much work goes into all of these shots. It’s the combined effort of thousands of top artists compressed into seconds of screentime. Fantastic!

Has there been any word on a Rogue One (or TFA for that matter) “making of” book in the style of Rinzler’s works on the OT? I’d sure like to add something like that to my bookshelf.
