‘Good Morning America’ Teases a Big Announcement Tomorrow for Star Wars’ 40th Anniversary.

Just 4 days before Star Wars Celebration Orlando starts, Good Morning America is teasing a big announcement coming tomorrow for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars. Read on for the details…

The video mentions that:

“Tomorrow Luke Skywalker and Rey together with a Star Wars announcement 40 years in the making.”

So most likely both actors will be there making the announcement. GMA airs between 7am – 9am EDT.

Last year a Rogue One trailer debuted during GMA. It’s obvious that this time it will be something about Star Wars in general. As we know The Last Jedi trailer will debut at Celebration Orlando, so it’s definitely not a trailer. So what could it be? Share your speculations below.

Official release of the unaltered original trilogy on Blu-ray/4K?!

But the trailer ahead of Celebration would be awesome too.

Probably a teaser trailer for the trailer this week.

Latter is more likely, but that “40 years in the making” bit makes me think it might be theatrical version re-release.

they seized on the chance for more money…but you are correct, this is the point that I have been making in my many letters and such…they could enjoy 2 very profitable revenue streams.

once again, no point trying to be made. It is and always will be about the money. They believed they could make more money with the changes they had in mind, and went that direction.

Or else just an Ep.IV theatrical re-release.

I hope eventually all of the films get released in all of their versions.

I want the Original Unaltered Trilogy soooo bad! However…. I do want a couple things to be fixed when they do the remastering.

    1. The matte boxes around the TIE Fighters during the Luke/Han shootout in the Falcon in ANH (I just watched my Harmy’s Despecialized edition to get a screen cap.. couldn’t find the matte boxes! I remember them on the DVD, and i saw them on the Bluray. So either it is something only on the Bluray/DVD, or Harmy did something? idk)

    2. The matte edges in the iconic overhead shot of the bridge saber fight between Vader and Luke. I never noticed before i saw the Harmy edition, but you can see the matte line. It isn’t noticeable, really, until the sabers hit the railing. It light’s up the scene, revealing the matte. If they could just smooth out the transition from real-to-matte, that would be great. Maybe artificially extend the lighting to the matte?

Are such requests blasphemous when talking about an ‘unaltered’ edition? I just chalk it up to cleaning it up. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/bc787e3424bd42e55776be8b2119aa2100709df23ebaaaf70c3126f4009570d0.png

As someone who only witnessed the the special editions, nothing truly bothers me about them.
Persoanlly I would want them to simply bring the cgi used up to date with the todays quailty of CGI. I understand them perhaps removing some of the additions (such as the creature walking infront of the speeder and the han shot first).
I would actually prefer that they went back to the prequels and touched up the cgi there.

I am sorry, but The Bluray is the best you will get, especially with George gone. The only things left for the OT are 4K HDR scans and the original pre-97 versions.

        • April 11, 2017 at 2:22 am
          Permalink

I don’t mind the “special” editions (as they are all I have known). I enjoy most of the extra stuff added to the background.
I also believe the “special” editions are considered canon so I dont feel they could alter them anyway.
I just feel the cgi used on the editions (dune back, jabba etc) plus some cgi in the prequels (such as Jar Jar; i was 5 back then so I dontmind his character -we all have flaws) is outdated. With todays photorealistic CGI. I feel the additions would blend better into the scenes.

Then those aren’t the originals, are they? They’re just YOUR Special Editions. Noise clean up is one thing, but re-matting/redoing special effects gets rid of the original special effects. Therefore, your desired versions wouldn’t be the originals, by definition.

      • April 11, 2017 at 2:02 am

Not re-matting/redoing special effects, more like blending the matte line.

Which would then be editing the original effects. I can see the appeal of what you’re talking about, but I think that already exists. It’s called Star Wars Revisited. As for the originals, I want the ORIGINAL originals.

For those of us growing up on the VHS versions we didn’t notice these things due to the image quality. Now with 1080p on a large screen you see all sorts of shit… like Darth’s helmet is covered in dust particles in some scenes on ROTJ. It drives me nuts… they probably would have bothered to dust it off if they knew one day it would drive me nuts. (lol)

The Semi-Specialized Edition might float your boat. Not really a fan of that cut myself — the editing is slightly sloppy, and it still keeps a few SE elements, but they do polish up some old effects, if that’s what your looking for.

I wonder if they announce plans to have a limited release of ANH, ESB, ROTJ in the theater come May 4th or May 25th weekend? Otherwise, a tease of the teaser coming out this week at SWCO.

Yea I saw that..it’s pretty cool. But minus the Darth Jar Jar bull crap..if Jar Jar had a softer yet comedic tone with less Gungan terms, would it improve the overall film?

Jar Jar is not the problem with these films. He is an easy scapegoat and so is “too much CGI” The prequel trilogy has foundational character and plot problems. In general, people just get annoyed by Jar Jar so he gets tons of the blame. But to answer your question, I think that a softer Jar Jar would have a small, favorable effect on the overall film, but very small.

Fundamental flaws in all the characterisations. Jar Jar was the least of the many, many problems with the prequels.

I love Ahmed Best, he’s a great guy and, if you take Jar Jar out of its context (which I think is the problem of such character), he did a great job delivering a unique character.

The “big announcement” they’re gonna make is to have Luke tell Rey in character that he IS her father. Obviously they want to get this very important piece of information out before the trailer drops, because they KNOW this reveal will be plastered all over newspapers around the world. That’s some extremely clever marketing right there…

Really hope so, All this Rey speculation gives me bad flashbacks to the Sidious “mystery” in the PT.

The original unedited, unspecialized, unridiculousness version of Star Wars is finally coming to blu ray…thats a surprise i can get behind.

I was thinking the same thing. Would not surprise me if they did that too. Given the lackluster celebration of last year Disney may feel the need to go big this time for the 40th anniversary and Carrie Fisher’s death. I think they plan to blow our minds this time.

How am I the only one thinking it has to do with the theme park? I know it’s been announced, but just how aware is the basic general public of it? If I asked my parents right now I don’t think they know there’s a huge Star Wars section of Disneyland coming.

I don’t see them bringing Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley on just to tell the people who haven’t heard yet that a Star Wars theme park will be open in two years.

Jar Jar should have been a small-time con-man or thief instead of a ridiculous, inept clown. Lucas skewed far too broad and juvenile with that character (and the PT in general).

Yep it was just Force for Change. GMA lost all good will from me. Sorry but they hyped this to much. I was hoping they’d at least have some props or a backdrop that would hint at The Last Jedi in the video. Nope.

To be clear. Nothing against Force for change or Lucasfilm. Just angry at GMA 😛

Im still holding out hope a 4k re release of the classic trilogy is anounced at celebration (idc if its special or classic edition at this point, i just wana see star wars in theaters again before episode 8)
