Is it just me, or does Harloff rub some of you the wrong way? He seems very full of himself for someone who doesn’t have a great prediction/ guessing record. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but he seems like he’s just a fast-talking bullshitter. Everyone else on the show? Cool, and not full of themselves. I could see myself pulling this cat to the side after a show and telling him if he didn’t change his cadence and tone with me, I’d knock the forty-year old baby fat off his damn chin. On camera. I cannot sit through another one of these shows where he says, “Obi-Wan solo movie is gonna happen” when Ewan MacGregor moves one inch in any direction, which happens in almost every show at least once. The show would be better served with Harloff playing a side role and not the host.

Nope, don’t mind him one bit. David Griffen on the other hand… he obviously has very limited knowledge of Star Wars and should never be on the show. I don’t really care what the personality of anyone on the panel is like. I only care about how knowledgeable they are about Star Wars so that they can have in depth conversations on a variety of topics. Harloff certainly fits that bill for me.

Now I like Griffin. No problems with the dude at all. Appears humble to me. I point out things about Harloff that seem to me that he’s a jerk, and someone else thinks David Griffin isn’t on par, when I like that guy. Life is peculiar like that, I guess.

My favorites are Kylo Ken and Marktoo Deetoo. They’re passionate about they’re love of Star Wars but don’t seem to take it too seriously. And then Campea, I just like how contrary he is about everything. And Jeremy is starting to grow on me.

Your eyes don’t deceive you. Collider in general raises huge red flags about integrity in film / entertainment reviews. With all the content they put out, and the growing list of premieres and conventions they cover, I wonder when they actually have time to enjoy the actual hobby of indulging in good films.

If I were in their shoes, and wanted to come across as a trustworthy professional, here’s the code I would try my best to follow:

Wow man! Great article, and a really good guide for integrity in reviews. I ask myself quite a bit how can it be that every reviewer on this program never has one negative comment about anything Star Wars related? Not one? Are they dropping resumes off at Lucasfilm with each up-vote? Obi-John Kenobi was the best for being the “heel reviewer”, but I don’t know whether to take him serious either.

I think he was the designated decenter. Every time it was time to hear his opinion, the others would already know what he was gonna do or how he was gonna react and start preemptively laughing at the negativity that was about to come. They either know him extremely well, or he’s a WWE heel character for the show.

Harloff, is someone who I like but he does have a bit of standoffishness to him. Really, he is very knowledgeable about SWs and that is fine. But it does make him a bit stuffy.

I do think he does tend to overpraise Kennedy and LucasFilm. I like Kathleen Kennedy as she has produced a lot of great movies. But her decisions on LucasFilm I am very mixed on. It also doesn’t help that her politics tend to be really grating. Hence, why I suspect she tinkered with TFA’s screenplay to make Rey more competent than she should have been. Nothing wrong with having a competent character, but really? I digress.

Ken I absolutely enjoy. Very sensible and earnest about his views. Mark is also really funny and adds some levity and Jahns I have warmed up to. Peri is awesome.

Campea pisses me off. The man is a full narcissist and loves to hear himself talk. I really do not get why people like him. When he left Collider, I thought it was for the best. But I guess I was in the minority. The way he talks about SWs and smugly looks down on PT lovers is disgusting.

And I say this as someone who doesn’t even like those movies, minus ROTS.

Agreed. Harloff’s fandom and knowledge are not to be questioned. My problem is his personal character. I think the last episode of Collider Jedi Council I watched was from about a month ago. Mark and Harloff were having some weird tension onscreen (I guess from some off-screen incident?). Subtle jabs abounded. “Are you ready Mark?”, just little jabs like that. It just confirmed to me what my intuition was telling me about this guy’s character. Star Wars News Net keeps me pretty informed anyway, so the shows were really just like a week in review of stuff I already have looked up.

Do you realize that Kristian is basically the show runner, and that Mark (and sometimes Ken) are the newsreaders? Kristian depends on Mark and Ken to keep the show flowing smoothly – if things are flowing smoothly, he probably gets a little frustrated.

They also rely upon and pimp StarWarsNewsNet for most of, but not all of their news, so if you are looking for just straight news, no reason to watch Jedi Council. If you are looking for something different, then Jedi Council is great.

You’re also way off on claiming that these guys aren’t critical – they criticize more than just the filler episodes of Rebels; e.g. – they were critical of how Thrawn was used most of Season 3, they’ve been critical of books and comic runs, Kristian was more critical of Rogue One than would be normally expected. If you’re expecting them to be Roger Ebert-like, you’re completely on the wrong track – they are Star Wars fan boys and it’s a Star Wars show and they want to get invited to Star Wars Celebration and D23 and other events, so the criticism won’t be preeminent.

Harloff’s knowledge, while impressive, I argue is more rooted in the movies. The Legends stuff not so much, minus Thrawn. Hence, why I rarely take him seriously when he discusses Legends. Not that I am saying Legends had no flaws. Far from it. But really, I do respect those fans who do know Legends. A part of it is me having got into the franchise because of Legends, aka KOTOR(magnum opus of the franchise in my view).

The tiff between Harloff and Ellis did surprise me. Maybe, it was during that occasion and is an isolated incident. I do like Ellis for his humor. Really, when the panel has Harloff, Ellis, and Ken it is amazing. Tiffany bores me, Jahns is solid, Perri is great. Such a sweetheart. And Campea, yuck.

I’d rather chew on rusted bolts than listen to him.

At their worst, Jedi Council say a droid episode of Rebels wasn’t necessary or “filler”. That’s as negative as they get. I love Star Wars and defend the prequels regularly, so I’m not out to start trouble; I just appreciate honest reviews more. There are definitely negative things to address in Star Wars. And watching a program that amounts to the reviewers handing out their resumes to Lucasfilm, ugh, it’s just painful to watch that much ass kissing.

Mark Hamill has had more balls to comment his opinions of the new trilogy and his character’s direction in a negative light than any reviewer out there. Side note: I don’t believe the hype that every actor interviewed (outside of Hamill) has nothing but glowing reviews of their cast mates and their entire experience in the new trilogy. I’m having a blast watching and anticipating the next movie, but filming wasn’t a giant love orgy for everyone.

As for Hamill, I’ll trust Rian Johnson but Hamill indeed did state he trusted Rian Johnson. Whether or not that is to save his skin who knows. But I do like Rian Johnson and am curious to see it.

As for his criticisms of TFA, perfectly justified. It is an incomplete movie that very much did not use its time wisely. And really, if it were any other film, it wouldn’t have gotten the praise it would have. That isn’t to say it completely sucks.

I do like the actors and certain parts. But really, the movie is a giant sequel tease. When it shouldn’t have been. It was LucasFilm wanting to hit the reset button when it wasn’t necessary. Something as simple as Luke, Han and Leia being in positions of power, mentoring the next generation would have been more than fine.

The PT are history. There is no going back. So move forward. TLJ for all I know could be an amazing film. But really, there needs to be some legitimacy to the conflict. Other wise, it will come off as nothing more than Galactic Civil War diet edition

It is one of the reasons why I do not watch Jedi Council as much anymore. The sad fact is that Harloff and company often shack up close to LucasFilm, willingly or not. I cannot blame them as it is their job as entertainment critics. But overall, it is a aspect one should take into consideration.

As for Rebels, I couldn’t disagree with Council anymore. I find Rebels not that good. While it has good characters, the narratives for each of the seasons(minus season one) have been poor. Second season had a cool finale, but really the filler I found ranged from decent to poor.

And while third season improved on the filler, yeah it sucked. Thrawn was utterly wasted. Though, the VA was amazing. And so many plot threads were abandoned, like Ezra’s turn to the dark side. The Sabine episodes were amazing. And that finale; oh man, it sucked. Overall, Rebels I find is very over-lionized. And while I am not a fan of TCW, overall I think it is the better series. Even in its latter seasons.

And let this be a lesson to everyone. Just because you love a franchise doesn’t mean you have to support or like everything. Anyone who pulls a No True Scotsman(in other words, you aren’t a true fan) are really stupid. Being a fan is much more than just a purity test. Everyone approaches why they love something different and ultimately has different preferences.

And no amount of elitism will change that. 🙂

The look of The Knights Of Ren at the top of this site mostly look pretty cool as well as their weapons…….except for the dude with what appears to be a blaster. I hated Jedi getting taken out by simple battle droids and clonetroopers in the PT but sort of gave it a pass since they were overwhelmed in sheer numbers or taken by surprise but a group of 7 or so guys scaring off Luke with a simple firearm isn’t going to cut it.
