Possible ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Home Video Release Date

When is the release date for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on DVD and Blu-Ray? Thanks to a relatively early listing from an Australian online retailer, we may have the answer. Read on for more!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will ultimately fall short of the numbers that “The Force Awakens” brought home for Disney last year, but you can’t imagine anybody will be complaining. The movie has currently raked in over $600 million worldwide, and should pass $1 billion by the other side of February. It’s a very big hit, and we probably won’t see another spin-off film even coming close to reaching that height any time soon.

Despite the recent success of the film at the box office, fans are still interested in knowing when the new Star Wars film will hit on DVD and Blu-Ray! So, when will Rogue One be released? Looks like we may have an answer!

Nick P. over at the Theforce.net, noticed that an online CD/DVD retailer called “EZYDVD” has listings for the Rogue One home DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D formats up, for consumers to pre-order if they’re interested, and they show an April 28th release date.

Further listings also show up at Sanity.com.au and JBHiFi.com.au.

We’ll have to wait a bit longer, though, to find out when Disney plans to officially release the film to DVD/ Blu-ray and other formats. However, this gives us a good idea and looks to follow a very similar release pattern as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was released on April 5, 2016.

As always, we’ll keep you updated with new information on the release when it become available.

May the Force be with you!

Wow April?? I thought it was a lot sooner for TFA.

It was April 13 for TFA (in Australia), and April 5 for the US. Hopefully the US gets it sooner than the 28th, because that seems pretty late to me.

The digital download for TFA came out on April 1st in the US.

April Fools – they certainly treat us like that with all the other special editions. Hoped it had ended with Lucas leaving but no.

We’ll get half the deleted scenes in April and then they’ll save the rest until they feel like making us pay for another copy.

uh oh! you hear that Disney?! You BETTER have a commentary on your next Star Wars release or this Entitled guy will be spraying his tears all over the internet. Pursuade everyone into believing that he is not going to go buy it, while its already in his blu ray player as he types because he got it on release day like everyone else…

It’s a clear response to the person suggesting torrents are the answer. So someone brought it up and I gave my opinion of that idea.

I hope they don’t do the same they did with TFA. Also because this time they’re not releasing the 3D version later.

I hope we get a 4K release day one….. I don’t have a 4K set up, but i want Star Wars in 4K. so i would rather just buy it once with the 4K/normal bluray and wait to watch the 4K one at a later date.

It might sound stupid, but I don’t really like the black 4K casings, and never been much interested in that. What I want is some very nice edition of the film, such as the collector’s edition, or a steelbook good as the star trek beyond steelbook was.

really? i love the TFA bluray! which is black, just as the 4K UHD ones are. Also, 4K blurays are more than just a resolution bump, they have HDR (high dynamic range) and a much wider color gamut. The movies will look incredible 🙂

I went through a steelbook phase. I have Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and the rare UK (Region Free) Forbidden Planet, but i am done with such things. But the Beyond steelbook does look cool. If it comes down to $15, ill get it 🙂

You’re referring to the collector’s edition TFA? Cause, yeah, I liked thatvery much too, but average 4K films I’ve seen on display have just a black amaray case, which, well, compared to the normal Blue Amarays, I don’t like much.

About steelbooks, well, I usually buy them if they look interesting, and if I want that kovie to look better than with the average amaray case. Unfortunately some steelbooks are very uninventive IMO, e.g. the european release of TFA steelbook. But when, on black friday I got the Star Trek Beyond steelbook for half the price, well, that’s the artwork level I would’ve wanted to see on the TFA steelbook. If they’re making some collector’s edition of R1, I’m sure getting that one. But, this year they don’t have an excuse of a late 3D release as they had with TFA, because I already see on amazon listed the 3D version aswell, so it would be a too evident money cowing even for them.

Nope, just the normal black case. I like them! =)

Problem with a lot of steelbooks, besides the added price, are that a lot of the Best Buy exclusives are single discs. I wouldn’t mind having the dvd/digital copy.

I still say this is the best steelbook 🙂 Robbie and the girl are embossed. and the colors are epic. http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/395610P1150848.jpg

You might be right on that, that is one nice steelbook!

I beg to differ, I’m sure the Han Solo movie will make that and more, even if some of us are not much into the idea, practically all the regular movie-going audience know who Han Solo is

It’s going to be the film with basic features. A more feature rich version will be released later. It’s not rocket science. It’s the way it’s been for over a decade.

let me know how that works out for you…you know you will buy it anyway…It cracks me up that you people are still bitching about TFA DVD…instead of being happy that you didn’t have to wait a whole year for the damn thing to be released..you all cry because it didn’t come with a bunch of extra goodies..LOL..like a bunch of spoiled brats. Myself..i was just happy that it was released so quickly and I didn’t have to wait. I already assumed that since it was coming out so quickly there was no way they would have had a bunch of extras prepared.I paid 16 bucks for the blu ray at Walmart the day of release..i had no reason to whine and cry about it…But lastly I really don’t understand how Disney ” fooled ” you? Considering the bonus features are labeled on the package and you know exactly what you are getting before you buy it. you act as if you bought the blu ray from some shady person in a dark back alley somewhere who promised you exclusive content and Commentaries and then realized when you got home and popped it in the player that you had been tricked. lol gimme a break

It can’t be April 28 as that’s a Friday. It will most likely be the 11th, 18th or 25th which are Tuesdays and Tuesdays are street days.

That just can’t possibly be the case that it will come out on Blu-ray on in the U.S. on Friday April 28th 2017, because that is the Blu-ray release date for Rogue One in Australia and not the U.S. . I highly doubt that the U.S. and Australia will share the same Blu-ray release date for Rogue One.

To everyone bitching about multiple releases of Star Wars movies on home video: This is how it’s always been. Period. And not just with Star Wars — (how many versions of Blade Runner have been released? Or Predator? Or the Evil Dead movies? Or Lord of the Rings?

The release patterns are always very specifically geared toward putting out a version for the “need it now” people and another later for the “I need the ultimate edition people” (and another for the “I need a remastered/upgraded version” people) and on and on. If you buy one in April you are paying a premium for your impatience. That’s not on them, it’s on you.

I for one don’t mind buying my favorite movies of all time repeatedly. It’s what us collectors do. No one is making you buy this stuff. It isn’t food or shelter, it’s entertainment.

I didn’t mind it at all except for the fact Force Awakens didn’t come with commentary on it’s initial release blu-ray. That’s something that is pretty standard with multiple disc releases of movies, especially star wars movies. But beyond that I totally agree with what you’re saying. Everyone does this, it’s not new. If people buy it, why would they stop it?

JJ didn’t record a commentary until after that one was released. I know this because in his commentary he mentioned about Erik Bauersfeld passing away (Admiral Ackbar’s voice) Erik passed away around the first TFA blu ray release date in early April,

      You’re correct.

However you’re about to be assaulted by a horde of Howler Monkeys who claim that just isn’t so. And that Disney is just trying to take more money from people. Which is actually true, that’s the point of business. But you know, it’s not sneaky when we know it’s coming.

They’re so mad they have to make a choice, I guess. LOL.

Exactly – Special Editions and Director’s Cuts use to be almost a year behind or more, depending on the fans clamouring for it. Having 3 versions of the same film with different extras is good business, but an abuse of the fans.

Yea that’s about the normal release date. I just got a Star Wars new hope 1992 VHS tape from goodwill thrift store in perfect condition for $2 it’s awesome. The packaging doesn’t even say a new hope and it’s the original movie poster with just the space background with Vader and Luke Leia and droids. It was so cool to watch it in the original format. I love the new DVD and blu ray versions too but this was a really classic feeling and reminded me of childhood
