Felicity Jones Talks About Life on the Set of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Felicity Jones spoke a little about life on the set of the blockbuster film ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY with The Sun this week. In an exclusive chat, the actress confessed of being terrified of the military type Stormtroopers that blanketed the film sets, talked about how difficult it was to prepare for her athletic role, and what she bought for her family members for this Christmas. Read on for more!

This is the week when the world gets an all-new Star Wars film that will not only rake in millions of dollars but will also have the cultural impact to keep people talking about it for months on end. It’s also the time when we’re finally able to learn what the actors have been hiding all these months and when we find out some of the secrets behind the filming of ‘Rogue One‘.

Felicity Jones, who plays the lead role in the new film, finally was able to share a few tidbits about her time on the set and how she conquered her fear of the Empire’s relentless Stormtroopers.

“I will never stop being slightly mesmerized by the fact I’ve been in a Star Wars film. “Every time I saw a laser or Stormtrooper, I remember prodding one of them once and thinking oh God. “I remember being on set and it is that funny thing of seeing a Stormtrooper without their helmet on smoking or drinking coffee. It was very surreal. “But then they put them on again and suddenly they’re petrifying.”

Felicity spent months learning martial arts and mastering her character’s fighting spirit for her role as the rebel Jyn Erso.

“I wanted her to feel quite street wise, she isn’t hugely rich, she has brought herself up, she doesn’t have a lot of privileges, and she’s had to survive on her own. “I didn’t just learn martial arts, we wanted her fighting to be quite scrappy so I looked at Thai boxing, Wushu and Kung Fu so it was a real bit of a mix match.”

The Oscar-nominated British film star also mentioned that some of the cast members (including herself) used vintage Star Wars films as inspiration for their roles in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

“We would literally watch The Empire Strikes Back on set. “We would get distracted; I got shouted at once by someone saying we needed to be back on set. “We were students of the early Star Wars films; we just wanted to do everything that they had done.”

At the moment, Felicity is still trying to take in all of her new found stardom within the Star Wars universe. She revealed that she has started collecting various Star Wars action figures despite not having much time due to her relentless ‘Rogue One’ promotional tour. In fact, it appears that some of her family members will be receiving a few gifts from a galaxy far, far away.

“I have started to collect my own action figures. “We have been touring all over the world and I kind getting different sizes of them but the one I really can’t get used to is the one that comes up to my knee. “All my family are getting Star Wars memorabilia for Christmas this year for sure.”

May the force be with us!

Watching Empire on set. That’s awesome. The performances in Empire are so muted and realistic. Love the acting in that movie.

Loved the movie! Above anything else, it’s great to see more of the Star Wars galaxy and I can’t wait to see more cool locations in Episode 8 and particularly the Han Solo spinoff.

I didn’t have much ‘HOPE’ for this film, but it turned out really good, it defied my early expectations, which means I have a renewed interest for the Han Solo film. Could be an exciting few years!

I think there’s something wrong with your Rogue One countdown clock up top. It’s not moving or anything. In fact, it’s just showing all zeroes. That’s weird. I’ll let you know what the clock should be reading. Let me just check my ticket here.

If they were making Star Wars action figures of me, I would be buying them all up, too!!!

I don’t think I have ever seen Felicity Jones in a movie before, but I am looking forward to seeing her performance in R1 tomorrow.

Edit – I just checked IMDB and nope, I have never seen anything Felicity has been in.

      The camera certainly love her.
She was very well in this movie, I recommend you “The Theory of Everything”.

    I watched it last night.

It was….miraculous, amazing! I won’t say anything to spoil it, but the movie is just phenomenal! THIS is Star Wars! Some scenes were really nostalgic, you’ll get a couple of tears in your eyes 😉

Totally agree. Much better than expected.
Think about the 8 main characters they show us and their destiny… clearly we have the adventage of A New Hope, only for that is possible.

Completely agree. This is the Star Wars I was waiting for.
After the let down-ish ep VII I have faith in the franchise from now on. Can’t believe how much it exceeded my expectations.

    I saw it yesterday,
Disliked: The music -couldn’t understand why they underused the Imperial March replacing it with an insipid, non-memorable Imperial theme.
It needed more chance to build up the characters, so that we actually cared about them later on.
There was something else that I wasn’t keen on but that would be a spoiler!
Did like: Everything else, in particular the SPOILER! and the SPOILER and THAT scene at the end – If you’ve seen it you know what I mean, hopefully.
Lots of Easter eggs and attention to detail.
Its a really good film and it’s a crying shame it hasn’t been pushed as much as TFA and is also unlikely to earn as much, because its the better of the two.
