Simon Kinberg Is Involved With Almost Every New Star Wars Project

Simon Kinberg

Simon Kinberg, executive producer on Star Wars Rebels and Lucasfilm story group member, recently spoke more on his involvement in the Star Wars Universe and this mysterious third stand-alone Star Wars film. Read on for more…

Writer/Producer Simon Kinberg turned up at ABC’s Television Critics Association panel this week where /film caught up with him and asked him about his involvement in various ‘Star Wars’ projects.

Kinberg, who is executive producer on the animated Disney XD’s Star Wars: Rebels is also reportedly writing an all-new mystery “Star Wars” spin-off film.

In an /Film’s exclusive,  Kinberg was asked if doing a Star Wars anthology film gave him more freedom than the Saga episodes that must continue the story along a forward path.

“I love them all, to be honest,” Kinberg said. “I also work in the animated show, Star Wars Rebels, so I think it’s not necessarily freedom narratively but maybe a little more freedom tonally, because those anthology movies can have a different tone than the mainline episodes. Honestly, I’m involved in one capacity or another in almost everything over there and I love it all.”

Not much on the mystery anthology movie, but it was interesting to learn that Kinberg as a member of the LFL Storygroup has an input on almost every project from the galaxy far, far away.

I think the third anthology film should be about a story post episode 9. So we can see how the events changed the rest of the Galaxy

IMO they are waiting to see how Rogue One sells before announcing the third anthology film. I really bet that it will be an Obi Wan with Ewan.

Make the third movie about the fall of Annikin Skywalker and the Jedi/Republic with the rise of the emperor/empire.

Only if they got someone new to play Anakin. Hayden Christiansen could trigger my prequels PTSD.

Absolutely, no more Manakin. What I’m proposing is that we tell that story utilising the best people available to do it. We’ve already had the special Olympics version, now it’s time for the event proper.

As much as I’d like that, it’ll never happen. The people over at Lucasfilm have too much genuine respect for Lucas.

Try reading the rest of the discussion genius, you’ll find that the rots version, that special people such as yourself favour, is clearly referenced.

“favor” lol, as if there is a choice between the movie that exists and the one you just made up in a comments thread (and misspelled the main character’s name).

Although I didn’t specify a preference towards the movie, yes, I am very biased towards the one that actually was made as opposed to the fantastical one that you have given no details about.

Yeah, you reference it, but honestly, do you think they are going to make ANOTHER movie about that? And disown what Lucas did?

            Genius indeed, lol.

It’s clear to anybody with an ounce of sense that the discussion was a hypothetical one – Maybe you’re just a troll.

You seem genuinely upset that the suggestion of an alternative version was even mooted – ye poor wee fascist snowflake.

“Favour” can just mean something you like, it doesn’t always have to mean you’re comparing it to something. In this case – by your lame attempts at trolling(the Watson comment is especially witless) without even reading the full discussion – I knew I was dealing with a fan of the special trilogy.

All it takes is one look at the comments I post and you would see I am not a troll.

You seem genuinely upset that the prequels didn’t live up to your expectations. But do you honestly expect them to retell that story? How does asking that honest question make me a troll? or a fascist? haha, wtf.

You are dealing with a fan of star wars, not a fan of the prequels. The prequels are my 3 least favorite movies in the series. But they exist, unlike the one you have in your dreams.

You said they should tell the story of Anakin’s fall. I said they did already. And you got all bent out of shape. I have read the full discussion and you have yet to say one intelligent thing. So good day, best of luck with your fake movie.

A wish, suggestion, hypothetical what if – whatever you want to call it – of doing the PT story justice by having it retold in one movie by the best talent available in the industry. That’s all this small discussion was about, nothing else, nothing more, I’m not planning to go make this movie, I don’t think it’s real, nor is there anything in any of my posts that would suggest that.

As I’ve said, that would be obvious to most people but of course you’re not most people you’re one of our special brethren who has difficulty distinguishing between these things. Either that or you’re a massive troll.

      Sigh.

You can be involved without actually writing the script. You have discussions, as a producer, as a writer with other writers. They have said that Lucasfilm is like a campus, with everyone collaborating with each other on projects. He likely is involved in those as well.

These are some of the movies which Simon Kinberg has written: xXx: State of the Union, X-Men: The Last Stand, Jumper, Fantastic 4, X-Men: Apocalypse.

Can’t say he’s got a nice track record.

And yes, Rebels is a poorly written show.

With the right promo campaign, an Old Republic movie may do well. Of course the people on this site would absolutly love it, but what about the casual moviegoer who has never played KOTOR or even cares that the PT came before the OT and TFA… Lucasfilm would have to explain to the masses WHY this matters to them. You may have to include a young Yoda or something to connect the dots, otherwise people may not buy into a whole move that is 500-1000+ years before the PT.

    I’ll be first in line.

That’s exactly what they need..a very strong marketing campaign. The rest would be up to reliance on the brand and a movie good enough to have the GA spread the word to watch the film amongst themselves. But I’m sure once people see “Star Wars” attached to anything it’ll bring the people flocking. Look at R1 people are interested and so far (other than the celebration trailer) there was no sign of any familiar faces. Except for mon mothma, but I doubt anyone got a joy outta seeing her again other than all of us lol.
