USA TODAY has the exclusive launch trailer for Disney XD’s new show, Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. The series takes place between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and is packed with new characters, old characters, lots of lore, action, and a whole lot of humor. Villains Emperor Palpatine, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Vader and Dengar the bounty hunter along with heroes Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian and Maz Kanata all will take part in the adventure. The Freemaker family will also visit familiar places in Star Wars history that include the planets Hoth and Bespin.

USA Today caught up with executive producers Bob Roth and Bill Motz as they spoke a little about what they have in store for its audiences.

“There is a wide variety of fun to be had in the Star Wars universe and we’re going to go explore all of it,” says executive producer Bob Roth.

“For audiences, I hope they laugh but I hope they’re surprised,” adds executive producer Bill Motz. “There’s a grander emotional journey than they might expect.”

The series, will debut its first season of half-hour episodes on June 20, 2016 (10 a.m. ET/PT) on the popular Disney XD Channel.

Palpatine saying “Meh,” at the end is kind of how I feel about this one. I think I’ll stick with Star Wars Rebels…

But of course, I’m not the target audience for this one. If this show gets kids into Star Wars then great!

With so much interest in OT fans’ opinions in the last few years, I’m surprised Disney/Lucasfilm haven’t granted their wish by making a serious live action Star Wars television series.
