That last scene has to be my favorite sequence of the movie.

So many good scenes. This movie is just one good scene after another. Literally the only thing I can gripe about is that it’s very similar to ANH and I didn’t really feel much of a Kylo-Han connection. I REALLY wish that Kylo-Falcon scene would have been kept in.

Yep, since we never saw any of their relationship, had no idea that Ben even existed, and certainly never saw their falling out, it would have been useful to give us some more of Kylo thinking about his dad.

I think maybe if Kylo and Han had some sort of contact before SB, even really minimal stuff, it would have paid off a lot more emotionally. My only real negative about the film.

And how excited Daisy is to tell Han that she bypassed the compressor and he’s just like…huh. Abrams really did a fantastic job in directing this movie.

Excited to get the movie on Blu “Rey”. But there is one thing I have never understood. It occurs just after the second clip above. After Rey tells Han that she bypassed the compressor, he walks off and Rey gets this really weird look on her face. I have never understood that weird look. Anyone got an explanation? Is it because Han is not as impressed as she thought he would be?

Just watched the film again last night – ALL of the technical stuff about the Falcon is terrible. Han walking out of the cockpit to complain about the “Moof Milker” (he seems to be working up a great pissed off with “HEY!!!”, then is just way casual walking back into the hold), “Too much stress on the hyperdrive” (hyuk, hyuk – we said it together!), “I bypassed the compressor” – it’s all so stilted, awkward and awful, and does not get any easier with successive viewings I find.

I have no problem with pirates. I can see the movie all around the internet in different sizes. But I would like that those downloading it will buy a dvd or bluray copy. I can perfectly understand that someone is expecting his copy in 3 weeks from amazon and is not strong enough to wait and download the movie today…..but still pays for the ordered copy….

I’m in France and I can’t download stuff because some months ago I received a “menacing” e-mail for having downloaded an .mp3 file that was tracked by a copyright agency here. I would be the first to download the film if I could, but definitely I would buy the bluray as well.

Believe me, the movie is everywhere. I can’t say I’m happy about that. Not that I’m a patient person, I’m not. It’s Star Wars! And my copy from amazon.es will not arrive soon enough. I usually buy the original bluray but never use it, because the digital copy is so easy and fast to use. But I also like those colorful boxes :-). I understand here in Europe almost everyone downloads because it’s so easy to do it with no real consequences…..

Yeah… I’m Spaniard and have no problems when I’m back home to download whatever, but in France you have a kind of “surveilling agency” that sends you three notifications, and the third one implies money hehe. Well… I received the first notification and found it an opportunity to just not download stuff anymore and try to do things right, but it’s annoying when concerning films that are not released in Europe at all (some indie films from USA or Asia). For TFA I think I’ll be able to wait…

What the heck, seriously, is the point of having all of those troops and equipment on Starkiller base? For instance, what’s going to happen after they’ve drained the power from their sun? Are they all planning to live in a lightless, frigid, dead planet? How?

I’d certainly like to think that the base can move, but it didn’t seem to be explained in the film, unless I missed it. Is there any more explanation in the books or comics?

Regarding the troops and weapons, and it being a base, yeah, I get it, but it still seemed a bit silly – all those troops vaporized without us even getting to see them in action.

Honestly, I think I’m still just a bit bitter about the whole Death Star 3 thing. I re-watched the movie last night and I loved it until the scene in the Resistance base where they’re all discussing Starkiller Base, and even they make fun of it basically being Death Star 3. At that point the movie lost me. Honestly, couldn’t they come up with something better? Even they don’t take it seriously.

          • March 25, 2016 at 3:50 am

The canon star map said that the base had an “origin point”. I don’t know how it moves, but it most certainly does.

Cool. That helps. Though even within the universe of Star Wars physics / logic I’m still having a hard time with it, and I have a feeling that’s not going to resolved.

For instance, does it travel at “normal” speeds or does it travel through hyperspace? I’m trying to picture an entire planet flying through hyperspace. Would it do so with all the troops remaining on the surface, or do they go underground? What happens to all the snow and trees? How do they navigate the thing? Thrusters?

Also, how the heck does Starkiller Base aim at its target, and from what distance? Is it normally stationary in space and moved by controlling some sort of thruster-like mechanism? Or is it in constant motion, perhaps an orbit around a star, like a normal planet, in which case do they then need to wait until it’s positioned perfectly to hit its intended target?

Anyway….. lots of questions about an imaginary universe. I love Star Wars – always have and always will – and enjoyed The Force Awakens. I just wish they hadn’t been so sloppy about the whole Starkiller Base thing. Surely they could have come up with something more compelling, or at least a better explanation for it.

Okay, time to make some food. Enjoy the day/night wherever you are.

This movie may have dropped a ball here or there, but you gotta admit, they got Han and Chewie’s interaction SPOT ON, that alone is worth watching the movie right now.

So refreshing to see people in Star Wars acting like actual people again.

I disagree. How am I supposed to relate to them if they don’t talk about their disdain for sand?

The new Chewie nails it. I like how he shakes while looking around in the snow clip. It’s really good.

That’s not the new Chewie. That is Peter Mayhew. The new guy was a stunt double and did the action scenes because Peter has leg issues.

That’s an action scene. Whenever Chewie is standing, is an action scene, because Mayhew can’t be standing without his stick. Besides, you can see in the eyes that he’s not Mayhew.

Bro don’t show me a shot of the new guy to make your point. Peter does stand and without a stick. This guy was a stunt double. So he is in the wide shots and running shots. The re-actions your discussing in this thread are close ups as well and are Peter. I am not only friends of Peters but know people on the crew that worked on TFA.

All he’s saying is that with Mr. Mayhew, “stunts” are pretty much anything that’s not walking at a reasonably slow place. Climbing is a stunt. Running is a stunt. Standing for more than a few minutes is a stunt. Get over it.

Hey guys maybe someone has an answer to this: I remember a lot of buzz following an actress officially confirmed in TFA, it was a young, dark skinned girl with curly hair. I just thought about it today and I don’t find who’s playing.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers? She played Korr Sella, a part which I think was originally bigger but had to be cut down. I think I heard that she might get a deleted scene on the DVD?

Yeah she has a scene with Leia about informing the republic about the first order. She is one of the ones seeing the blast from Star Killer just before they all die. It would have added a bit more weight and understanding of the relationship between the republic and the resistance… Unless I’ve got my characters mixed up.

Yeah, it’s in the book. Leia is talking to Korr about going to the Senate to address them and ask for the Republic fleet. Leia says she must send her because she would be at risk of an assassination attempt.

Yeah you virtually have no idea which system they are blowing up, and don’t really care about it much..it wouldn’t have taken much to set it up

No, you’re right. She played Korr Sella, Leia’s representative in the Senate. Her scenes were added back into the novelization.

Thumbs up! HER! I hate this on StarWars productions. At a certain moment (specially when seeing the photo of BadRobot with a dark skinned woman reading the script) we imagined plenty of possibilities about her role, most of them quite interesting and important. It’s kinda disapointing what her participation is after all.

Just curious… Why does her not appearing have to be attributed to race? Can’t we give the benefit of the doubt?

Wh… What? Did I say that? I’ve used the dark skinned adjective because it was what made people think the twitter pic was her (no face on it). I don’t know where you got that conclusion Justyn.

Just a question Dani. Your statement did make it sound like this is a norm for a Star Wars production; to cut the scenes of a “Dark Skinned Woman” because that’s what she was. I realize from your second statement that was not your intent, but some may construe it that way.
