Star Wars Battlefront: Outer Rim Expansion Details.

Star-Wars-Battlefront-DLC-647813

Ever wanted to play as Greedo or Nien Nunb in a Star Wars video game? The new Battlefront: Outer Rim expansion has you covered, along with four new maps and a brand-new mode called “Extraction”.

EA/DICE deliver the important details about the expansion on their own site. While I’d typically just quote them, they come with a couple of stunning screenshots that I think are worth sharing, so I’ll let the images do the talking (if you have trouble reading them, click on the images themselves).

…And, of course, new weapons and Star Cards will be added accordingly. The level cap will also be raised to 60, which should be a boon to dedicated players. Something tells me that if DICE is bringing lesser-known characters like Greedo and Nien Nunb into the fray, then each expansion might feature a new pair of heroes and villains in each pack as opposed to four characters in total. The expansion pack can either be purchased individually or as part of the Season Pass. Players who have paid for the Season Pass will get to play the expansion two weeks before everyone else. While a release date has not been confirmed, DICE has suggested that the goal is to get it ready before the end of the month.

See. This is why only OT Battlefront sucks balls. Greedo and Nien Nunb … seriously?

Lazy. You can already play as that species. Glad I didn’t pay extra for that crap.

Restricting it to OT didn’t mean having the lamest heroes ever. There are PLEANTY of awesome OT characters that would have been better choices if EA had any interest whatsoever in putting in anything above the bare minimum of effort. IG-88, Bossk, Lando, Chewie, Dengar, Yoda, Wedge…this on the other hand is “welp, we’ve already got these charactes modelled, and 90% of the textures and mapped – fuckit, just paint over the body textures and call it a day.”

New levels and mode look somewhat interesting, but not interesting enough for me to want to purchase a season pass. Its sad to say, but I’m kinda done with Battlefront at this point.

EA just released another shooter, namely Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 and it is a far superior game. It has many more enjoyable modes, great classes(seriously why did DICE get rid of the class feature from previous BF games), fun colorful level designs, a TON of customization options and tons of ways to play offline or splitscreen with a friend. It makes me sad to say this, while Plants vs Zombies is a fun franchise, it shouldn’t be kicking the pants of a similar Star Wars game.

That being said, it seems like DICE spent a huge amount of time and money nailing the Star Wars look and feel, which is one area the game shines. Maybe they will be able to address the gameplay more in further expansions, or the next Battlefront title at the very least. I haven’t seen anything so far to make me want to come back, but I’m still hopeful.

What is this? Cruel communism? Letting people hanging on some specks of content and telling us that its the best for us all? Just no.

Surely they could have chosen better characters for the new heros. I would have easily taken any other bounty hunter like IG-88, Dangar. or Bossk over Greedo. And Nien Nunb could have been Chewie or even old Obi Wan.

Yeah, I agree. Instead they just gave us species that we already had, and characters that we don’t really care about. Minimum effort, over-priced, and a bunch of fans have already bought that Season Pass. Wonderful job, EA. Wonderful.

Everyone knew what was up when EA is involved. Big reason why my kids stopped playing this game.

Yet EA/DICE has had absolutely stellar support for BF3 & BF4 throughout the lifetimes of both games. DICE’s solid track record was what gave people hope that the issues apparent with the design decisions and stripped down features would be corrected after release. All they’ve done since release is drop superfluous map packs no one wanted, game modes that are just backwards versions of already existing game modes on the exact same maps, and now heroes that quite literally nobody wanted or asked for.

Yet still no playlists, no bot support in private matches, completely bastardized and barebones split-screen modes, split-screen battles that don’t allow you to switch weapons the entire match, completely empty multiplayer servers outside of whatever the newest map happens to be, and every time someone from EA/DICE actually addresses the game outside of a press release they make their ignorant and archaic design decisions look even worse.

I bought the season pass based on DICE’s previous support structure and responsiveness to what the players were asking for throughout the lifetimes of BF3 & BF4. As of right now the game isn’t even installed on my X1 anymore and I’ve just chalked the season pass up to a $50 lesson learned.

A company that has a solid track record of stellar post-release support/content (DICE not necessarily EA) should be disgusted and embarrassed by Battlefront and ashamed for the price of their game and season pass. Should have been sold as an “arcade style” Battlefield: Star Wars game with a $39.99 shelf price & $29.99 season pass. Even that might have been too much though based on what we actually got.

My hope at this point is that Dice’s work is used as the foundation for an actual BF game in the next two years. Having played the hell out of 1 and 2, and even messed around a bit as a modder for BF2, I made the jump to XB1 this year SPECIFICALLY in anticipation of BF. Nope. Have not and will not buy BF in its current form.

By the end of the month you’ll be unable to find any matches unless you bought the season pass anyway. The free dlc maps are the only ones there ever seem to be any games on and even those can require sitting in the disturbingly quiet lobbies for a while before getting enough players to start the match. I *hope you are right about them using this as the base for an actual Battlefront experience with the next game but they would have to do a complete overhaul anyway so whats the point? Visual assets? Playtesting the concept in the wild and milking their customer base for it therefore almost guaranteeing a shit reception to the next one? Wait…that has to be it! They WANT the next one to fail! 🙂

I don’t really get it. It wouldn’t really be cost effective to do an overhaul so I think were just going to get the same experience in different eras with each new game.
