UPDATE 2! Details from Day 4 of the Episode VIII Filming in Dubrovnik! Rian Johnson and Warwick Davis Spotted!

The latest images and video from the Episode VIII set in Dubrovnik are here, thanks to TheDubrovnikTimes and StarWarsDubrovnik. Check them out…

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

TheDubrovnikTimes has a video with much better quality of the stunt performed on the set yesterday that we showed you.

Curiously in their report The Dubrovnik Times mention that Mark Hamill was spotted in Dubrovnik:

Star Wars VIII started filming on the 9th of March in Dubrovnik, with the first two days being set ups and rehearsals, and will continue until the 16th of March. The leading actors arrived in Dubrovnik yesterday and Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, was spotted filming on a well-known Dubrovnik beach.

We are yet to see a prove that Hamill is in Dubrovnik. Yesterday another local news site stated that Hamill was on set, but we saw that this was not Hamill. I wonder if this report relies on the info from yesterday or they indeed spotted Hamill in the old city.

StarWarsDubrovnik shared some new photos from the set, showing:

Landspeeder that’s probably going to be crashed into one of the prop wall pillars. Pillars with various degrees of damage were set up along the Main Street and now we know why.

Set 02 Set 03

So there’s definitely going to be a chase sequence that will end with a crash.

Also they shared several photos with a huge green screen that has been placed at the western end of the Main Street, next to Onofrio’s fountain.

Stay tuned for more…

UPDATE!

StarWarsDubrovnik uncovered another Episode VIII filming taking place on Dubrovnik’s City Walls:

Dubrovnik City Walls complex, the main landmark of the city was announced as one of the filming locations, but so far there was a consensus the production only reserved the walls in order to prevent the people from filming of photographing locations within the Old City centre.

Thanks to our watchful eye, we came into possession of photographs proving filming is going to be done on the City Walls themselves as well. We can see the film crew setting up operations as well as a big green screen at the base of Minceta Fortress, the biggest fortification on Dubrovnik City Walls

UPDATE 2!

Rian Jonson and his team has been spotted this morning at the Dubrovnik Airport. He will join the filming crew on the set later today. (via dnevnik.hr)

Rian

Also actor Warwick Davis was spotted driving a segway around Dubrovnik doing some sightseeing. (via dailymail):

Warwick

Davis played this character from Maz Kanata’s castle in The Force Awakens:

Of course this doesn’t mean that he will play him again. Warwick played multiple characters in the previous movies, so he could be any tiny creature or human.

It’s great to be seeing all this stuff already, a very welcome change from the Abrams secrecy which imo is only designed to create hype to distract attention from his usual humdrum final product.

Yes the 90 percent was the general public who saw it, but if reviews are mostly bad the people who don’t like the film will parade those reviews around, look how bad the reviews are! But if the reviews are mostly good, they call the 90 percent a bunch of sheep.

Let’s not forget that back before TPM was re-released in 3D, the film actually got a mid 70s score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wrong. TPM was never in the mid 70s on RT. It did drop when 3D came out. But is was in the low to mid 60s. There are s few places on the web you can verify this.

If the reviews are mostly good and the audience’s reaction was equally good, it’s called a consensus. The film was very good. The small percentage who didn’t like it did so for mostly petty and short-sighted reasons and unrealistic/pre-concieved expectations not being met.

If a person doesn’t like the movie the reviews are all made up or done by sheep and or reviews don’t count if they are mostly good. If they are mostly bad they are always fully valid and paraded around.

I loved episode 7 a ton, but as many have pointed out, my biggest letdown was how similar it was to story elements and visuals of earlier films. A throwback is fine for one movie, but I’m so excited for episode 8 because i think that good or bad it will be unlike ANY other star wars film to date, which is just what the franchise needs IMO.

Last time I watched Jedi, well, they’re vicious and spooky, to start off with. As a kid I liked them less as I wanted my sci fi to be challenging to my age, darker, not teddy bears. Now I don’t have hang ups, I like em. Ewoks are boss. next time you watch ROTJ give em a go with fresh eyes

I understand the desire to like the Ewoks, but once you snap out of it you realize they’re still just as dumb as you first thought. ROTJ would be massively better with some better good guys on Endor. Even primitive human species (akin to native Americans) would be good. As soon as I see a storm trooper getting knocked over and basically killed by a little rock hitting his armor, it takes me right out of the movie. Dumb.

I never had a problem with Ewoks when first saw ROTJ on my 8th birthday in 1983. The Ewok Village Kenner set was my most sought after Toy that Christmas. Wasn’t until I got to be a teenage other people were telling me I am “supposed to hate them.”

Yeah, but they also weren’t armed in a believable way. If they were space teddy bears with gigantic blasters and canon, I wouldn’t have a problem. But they literally threw pebbles at the stormtroopers, which somehow killed them in one hit.

It’s because the just shatter the suspension of disbelief of the movie. When little native teddy bears throw pebbles at technologically advanced trooper (killing them instantly) it just doesn’t seem right.

Assuming a storm trooper helmet is similar in protection to a motorcycle helmet, it would have little effect. I invite you to give it a try. Plus, you’re forgetting about the little teddy bears beating the storm troopers with sticks and knocking them out. I don’t think you’d even need armor to survive that unscathed.

To those fans who go into discussions such as “should Prequel/Original trilogy/Clone Wars/Rebels” stuff be in the movies or not: You have to understand that it’s pointless. Lore master Hidalgo said himself: There is no “Prequel Star Wars” or “Original Star Wars” – EVERYTHING that is canon is Star Wars. If it makes sense for the story it will be in the film, no matter what medium it was in before.

I will believe it when I see it. Hildago is just giving lip service. Disney/Lucasfilm isn’t going to make the EU mandatory reading. You will not need to do extensive reading or watch any of the other medium to understand what is happening in the movies. Take Darth Maul for example. To anyone watching the films, Darth Maul is dead. If he were to come back say, in an Obi Wan anthology movie, they are going to have to explain to audience that not only that Darth Maul somehow survived but that he had multiple interactions with Obi Wan previously. Ahsoka is another example. To anyone who has seen the prequels, not a single mention of her. Or beyond. Aside from a passing mention, there is no way that she could show up in a film. There would be too much to explain. Now could the Ghost show up in the background of Rogue One or Chopper or Zeb be there? Sure entirely possible, but there isn’t going to be something new that will contradict the previous films in future ones. The EU is for us fans who want more stories and more background information. They are fun stories, like Yoda helping to explain why he couldn’t detect that Palpatine was a Sith is due to the fact that he was afraid. Outside of passing mention or something inconsequential stuff in the EU/comics/Rebels/Clone Wars can’t and won’t have a meaningful impact on the films. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I think he just meant that the new canon is canon. No need to write a paragraph.

Ahsoka started her story in Clone Wars, and it makes sense to conclude it in Rebels. Filoni deserves to tell her story to completion. Darth Maul should absolutely show up in the Obi-Wan movie. He is a loose thread, and it won’t take much more than a throw away line and some robot legs to explain what’s going on to the audience.

What would the line be? I haven’t seen you since the last time we battled in the Clone Wars? Then 3/4 of the audience would be confused and wondering what the hell is going on. The movies are self contained stories. Nobody is going to risk 200 millions dollars and confuse their audience. None of the EU is required reading in the least.

No. Something a little simpler. “I see you somehow survived our last meeting. A mistake I’ll be sure to rectify.”

But was their last meeting in TCW show where Obi-Wan though that Maul was dead? I haven’t finished the show (On season 5 currently when Maul first comes back but I have read the Son of Dathomir comics so I know that his story is left open ended)

All you need to know about Darth Maul is he is alive and Obi-Wan owes him a vertical bisecting.

Like @TUD said, I just wanted to say that separating Star Wars universe to categories is pointless. Nothing much else.

BUT, I understand your argument yet still there are quite a few facts against it too. The Force Awakens showed itself that there is a HUGE gap of mysteries, events and timelines that led to completely new state of the galaxy. The biggest complaint to the film from some of my friends was that the movie didn’t explained alot. I got no problem with that, since there were clues and signs all over the movie, but those are the details that casuals mostly do not notice. To quote one of them: “Why do I need to read couple of books only to discover how the hell Empire disappeared, why is the Resistance even smaller than before and why are they separated from the Republic?”

Now that is a valid point I think, but then again, I always said that Star Wars movie needs to be almost 3 hours long in order to capture everything perfectly – TFA just confirms that.

Everything looks like Naboo. How city looks, clothes, hairstyles.
I hope it is Naboo, because I do not want another Tatooine-Jakku case.
    Or Naboo-Nakku in this case.
