i do not agree with the stuff about weak character development in the prequels ( sorry Tiffany ) i know the prequels have their flaws and problems but to say there is nothing going on character wise and they saying force awakens is all about the characters….. ? idk guys, yes Hayden fucked up the acting but Anakin does have a pretty amazing arc. Lets compare a Jango who at least has some sort of motivation ” im just a simple man trying to make his way in the universe” a guy who takes a paycheck to be a father to …. Phasma. its all about the characters in the force awakens ? then why they hell are there no many moments in the force awakens where u have to ask yourself ” is that really what he would do ?” Leia ignoring Chewie after Starkiller base exploded and Han is lost ? really Leia, who knew Chewie for 40 years, who took care of her after Han got frozen who promised Han to take care of her.. he gets ignored when he must be in so much pain over loosing his brother and friend gets ignored in favor of some girl she just met maybe a few hours earlier ??? and thats “all about the character” ? give me a break. Same for Han using Chewie’s bowcaster, reacting like this was the first time he ever fired it in 40+ years that these two have been partners in crime. i don(t buy that at all. it was all about cool moments to please audience, it had zero to do with “its all about character” listen im no fan of the prequels too, but this constant bashing about them while at the same time not seeing any flaws in the force awakens is a bit hypocritical.

This comment is so wrong, in so many ways.

          That’s fine, I don’t even know Belgiumish (?) so it’s fine.

Basically, it’s like this. Characters doing things that aren’t 100% explained is not the same as characters not being developed. The character sin TFA were shown to have motivation and personality. Nearly every character in the prequels is some monotone cardboard cutout with no personality. Case in point: Maul.

we speak french and dutch, english is actually my 4th language so it is not perfect when i type here. Again, i dont really agree. characters doing illogical things equals bad character development. Period. and to be honest i think Maul had more of a unique personality ( u could sense pure hate, pure anger, he was a predator out for Jedi blood) just with a look in a close up then Snoke ( motivation ? personality ?) Phasma ( personality ? female i guess ? ) Unkar more personality then Watto ? ( he even had an arc , heck in attack of the clones u actually felt a lil sorry for him ) Poe Dameron, is he a fully rounded character ? is he more fleshed out then say Captain Panaka ?

Obi-Wan jumped out of a window in AotC. Illogical. Bad character development, there you go.
Maul had no character. He had two lines and no arc. Kylo Ren is practically the focus of TFA, and he has plenty of complicated character moments.

Obi jumped the window to catch droid that would bring him to the asassin , thus solving the plot. that was his motivation. it was logical. Leia ignoring Chewie in favour of a girl SHE DOES NOT KNOW, WHO IS A STRANGER is illogical. Don’t mistake Adam Driver looking all emo ( dont get me wrong, best acting next to Ridley in the movie, goose bumbs for me) with “Complicated character” moments. What exactly is his complicated arc ? doe he go from semi evil ( killing an old man and murdering a whole village including innocent woman and children in cold blood) to full evil by murdering his own father ?

-Nope. Obi-Wan wouldn’t do that. It’s not in his character. It would make more sense for Anakin to do it.
-Chewie wasn’t even around at the time, so she wasn’t ignoring him.
-His inner struggle and fight against the light side is shown. Maul is just a cool face with a lightsaber attached to it.

            – nope, Obi Wan does exactly what the mission requests from him : find the assasin by any means. that droid was the only lead to uncover the assasination plot and he went for it, its Anakin who is doing the wrong thing ( but true to his character) : he goes to Padmé and shows affection. if i follow your thinking then Leia jumping on the speeder bike to get to those other 2 scouts was also the wrong thing to do.

            – I guess u didnt really see the force awakens good then. U can clearly see chewing walking past Leia when the falcon retirns from the battle. and in the long short Chewie just stands there… in the middle of the crowd.

            – do not compare Maul with Kylo, do compare him with Phasma. Kylo’s struggle was less logical then Anakin’s struggle. ( with him it at least was a real struggle) at least there was some remorse after he killed the Tuskens. the problem is that Hayden is a far less talented actor then Driver but the Anakin character is superior and way more layered so far then Kylo Ren at this point who was already evil 5mins into the film.

I am beginning to think that that point, where Leia ignores Chewy, is the biggest flaw in that movie.

well if u really think about it , it is
The one thing i do not get is this : its written by Kasdan, who also wrote Empire. If u read the book “the making of the empire strikes back ” and check all the discussions Kasdan, Lucas , Ford and Kershner had on set about character and how to make the scene better and what is right for every character ( the carbon freeze chamber scene is something they really discussed in depth) then Leia ignoring Chewie after one of the most pivotal scenes in the entire saga does not make any sense .. AT ALL; I cannot believe that Carrie Fisher, who is a respected scriptdoctor/screenwriter in the industry never once said on set while they where shooting this ” hey hold on guys, this is so not what Leia would do in this moment. why would my character even hug a person she has never even met before ?” she would hold on to the only thing she got left from Han :
