SW7N Review: Marvel’s Star Wars #4
Issue four of Marvel’s comic book series Star Wars is out. Check out our review after the jump.
Excerpt from the review:
This issue serves as connective tissue to the Darth Vader series. We find ourselves back in Jabba’s Palace where the Dark Lord is ironing out a deal for the crime lord to help the Empire re-up it’s supply chain. Jabba seems pleased with this deal, more so for the sake of the prestige that comes with dealing with the Emperor’s right hand man than the financial benefits.
We find out heroes back with the Rebel Fleet. Han, who is pretty beat up, and Chewie are putting the Millennium Falcon back together. C-3PO is back in one piece again. The only ones who seem affected from the stark realities that a small victory was so difficult are Luke and Leia.

One of my favorites issues so far. Great art work and storyline. Also, it reads like a Star Wars movie.
Just read it and it’s easily one of the best ones in all of the new SW comics hands down. It just oozed with the feel of the OT without being forced or contrived. It was almost like being there again! Can’t wait to see where the Ben Kenobi info search goes for both Luke and Vader…
I have generally loved all of the new Star Wars comics that have came out thus far but I hated this issue. Now that Vader has visited Jabba twice so far, it isn’t exactly clear when this has happened in relative to the Vader comic. You see entirely two different encounters in terms of tone. This actually had made me very concerned that canon and continuation is going to get mucked up. It is 4 issues of comics and things are already unclear.
This is after he saw Jabba about the bounty hunters. It’s a different day. He mentions this in issue one of Vader. Not unclear at all. Go back and re read Vader issue one.
Thanks for this. I will re-read Vader #1 and check it out. I might have been too excited for actual comic that I didn’t pay attention to the details.
It’s actually a wonderful example of how well integrated the new canon is. The order of events (thus far) is SW1-3, DV1, SW4, DV2-4. See here:

my only gripe is Vader doesn’t look big enough in most drawings in the comic. In fact he looks positively weedy. Prowse was broad as well as tall.
I found the art very lazy and reminiscent of the 1970s comics. I can’t understand the ranting and raving of the people proclaiming that the art is wonderful – they must see something I don’t. I give the art a 4/10. For what it costs I do expect a little more flair and grace, not these haphazard ‘got-to-rush-to-finish-it-as-I-have-a-deadline’ scribblings. The art is somewhat in places, dare I say ‘childlike’, but in others totally professional. I don’t know, maybe the artist was having a bad day. We shall see how this all pans out.
sorry didn’t read everything… so is the vader at jabba’s palace scene a continuation/expantion of the darth vader issue 1? is it the same meeting they have, or a different one?
Different meeting. The next day. The one he was officially there for.
THIS IS THE BEST ISSUE!!!!!! I WAS AT THE EDGE OF MY SEAT WHEN I WAS READING THIS!!!
1st point,
our wallets are DOOMED. It’s been like half a year and it’s already getting so convoluted that you have to leapfrog between 3-4 different series to get the full picture? hm, we must proceed with caution.
2nd point, the art’s not that great, it’s PRETTY good, but it’s not great. Recently I’ve been doing work as an Illustrator, and I appreciate the aesthetic value of pretty much everything, but man! that TIE Fighter is crooked! I seriously CAN draw a TIE Fighter that’s more straight than that. The one flying above the stormtroopers just looks- either squashed, or it’s central strut is like 70% too wide, am I the only one seeing this?
My chihuahua can draw a better TIE fighter than the, dare I say ‘artist’ of this extortionately priced comic.
I love the way Jabba smoothly reminded Vader that he isn’t some run-of-the-mill low-level punk lol. All of a sudden Vader is *compelled* to hang out with the crime lord by *request* haha.
You can tell that Vader can’t stand the fact that raw force alone simply isn’t enough to get business done effectively. Awesome
It’s pretty good. I like seeing Salacious Crumb, and the action figure variant covers are badass.
Cool. Love the boba fett picture
