SW7N Review: Marvel’s Star Wars: Darth Vader #1.

Darth VaderThe first issue of Marvel’s new Star Wars comic book series titled Darth Vader is out. Check out our review after the jump.

Excerpt from the review:

If you are not a comic book fan but consider yourself a Star Wars fan, I say now is about the time to suck it up and give these books a chance. They are cannon, they are legit, and they are the Star Wars bus leaving the station…so don’t get left behind. By that, I mean that the writers and the Lucasfilm Story Group are adding nuance and detail to these characters you thought you knew so well.

We have already seen it in the first two issues of the general Star Wars, and now we are seeing it with the beginning of the Darth Vader series. I have no doubt that all of these details are going to make the experience of The Force Awakens much richer. I will step off my soapbox now and tell you a little bit about issue number one of Darth Vader, but seriously, get yourself to a comic book store now and get going if you haven’t already.

Darth Vader

Right off the bat I’ll say we have some SPOILERS. One thing this issue does is not only tell you how the arc from the Star Wars comics just released ends, it literally SHOWS you. I’m going to do my best to skirt around spoilers and plot specifics, but tread lightly if you want to read this for yourself unaware.

I LOVED this comic. The artwork was fantastic and the storyline was amazing, even intertwining a flashback of the new Star Wars 2. I suggest for any Star Wars fan EVEN those who don’t necessarily enjoy Comic Books to buy this series! 😀

The only thing that bothered me (mainly with the main Star Wars comic storyline) is how Darth Vader totally discounts the significance of Luke, even while meeting him face to face. This is your SON, you can’t sense that?! Even weeks earlier, Vadar sensed a strong force presence in Luke while tailing him across the surface of the Death Star.

As far as we know, the Force doesn’t give you kinship-sensing abilities.

This comic was really well done and left me really upset that it ended so quickly haha. I am ready for the 25th when i can read #2. New character additions and past habits made this one worthwhile.

It feels like they will just recycle unused ideas from Dark Horse and the old EU. Vader never visited Jabba before except in some non-canon at the time Dark Horse tale. There’s an idea Vader will visit Dagobah. I believe this was introduced before in Star Wars Infinities or Star Wars Tales.

As a prequel hater and OT lover… will I like this? I’m tempted because the artwork and previews I’ve seen look amazing. I’d love to relive the glory days of Vader’s iconic menace.

    If was good.

So… That weird half-human, half-Greedo guy, I wonder what’s up with him. Is that a young Max Von Sydow?

We can’t tell you, that would be spoiling it.

I bet you were the kind of guy who fast forwarded to the end of Titanic just to see what would happen.

A friend have read this on, and said it doesn’t feel like Star Wars.

Still waiting for a proper sequel to Dark Horse’s Star Wars.

Does anyone else see in that image what I see? The rock formation looks like a giant petrified Jabba, and Vader is standing on his huge chode. Amirite?
