A First Look at Kanan: The Last Padawan.

Kanan The Last PadawanWhile the first issue of the first of many Star Wars comics produced by Marvel Comics has recently been released, Marvel’s already looking toward promoting Kanan: The Last Padawan, the fourth series that they announced. Take a look inside to see sketches of what Star Wars Rebels character Kanan Jarrus looked like during the fall of the Republic…

From StarWars.com:

Star Wars Rebels has established Kanan as a heroic — yet flawed — Jedi. He doubts himself, he loses his patience, and he struggles in his new role as a teacher to Ezra. An Order 66 survivor, he also seems haunted by his past; finally, that past will be explored in Marvel’s Kanan: The Last Padawan series, coming this April. And StarWars.com has an exclusive first look at young Kanan — then known as Caleb Dume — right from the sketchbook of series artist Pepe Larraz!

Kanan 1

In these sketchbook pages, Larraz explores different outfits and facial expressions for the young Jedi — decidedly more innocent than the Kanan we know, but still with a bit of the cowboy Jedi’s trademark swagger — hinting at the man he will become.

Kanan 2

The comic series is slated to begin this April. It will be written by Greg Weisman, who served as an executive producer for the first season of Rebels, and is also known for his work on the Disney animated series Gargoyles.

I can’t think of a single female Jedi master.

the fact that you find it so unusual for his master to be female illustrates that we need more diversity, it should be normal for a character to be female or minority. it shouldnt be news worthy or even conversation worthy.

She (Depa Billaba) was in the Prequel Trilogy, but she was not shown as prominently as the other Jedi Masters.

Also, diversity as a concept isn’t egregious as long as it makes sense in the context of the story instead of being shoehorned in. Again, her presence in the Prequels justifies her appearance here.

Do we really think that the new Star Wars is going to have anything to do with Rebels? I kinda doubt it.

They announced that we’d be able to tie in some of the events and characters from Rebels into Ep 7.
