Star Wars Rebels Review: S01 E06 “Empire Day”.

TiesDisney has released the next episode of Star Wars Rebels: “Empire Day” on their Disney XD app. Read our review after the jump…

Here’s a small excerpt from the review:

This episode….was DOWN RIGHT WIZARD FOLKS!!!!!! Was it mind blowing? No. Was it suspenseful? Maybe? Was it entertaining? YES! Wait, did it at least give us some character development? YES!……Did Ezra use his stupid slingshot…at least once?…..spoiler alert folks…PRAISE TO SHEEV, NO!!!!!

“Empire Day” wasn’t kidding with that title. First we are given AT-DPs walking through a parade with a different version of the “Imperial March” music playing. You could say it was a “peppier” version of the march! Needless to say…it was great…

Is it wrong for me to kind of like Ezra’s blingshot now? I like to go “Pew Pew!” everytime he flings some electrified pixie dust at a stormie.

Man, I don’t like the series half as much as I did with Clone Wars. Apparently, the Force is weak in this one

The Clone Wars started off ruff too, however in the end when you look back through TCW as a whole, it was amazing! As for Rebels, give it some time to settle into its own and I guarantee it will be just as good. Dave F. will not let us down! The story will expand and get larger and not feel so small when compared to TCW.

I’ll say this… it IS getting better as it goes along, and I like this better than I liked the first season of Clone Wars. It is, if nothing else, enjoyable now, and if it gets better as CW did, then it’s going to be truly excellent before too long. I’m hopeful.

This series is much better than Clone Wars, and I loved Clone Wars.

Hoping an EU writer takes over and has Vader hire Boba to disintegrate these pitiful characters…Thus ending this poorly written show that should in no way be canon! Long live the EU!!! Bring it back Disney!!!

I have a feeling you haven’t actually watched the show. The characters are really solid (more nuanced than the flat characterizations in TCW, at any rate), and the writing has been pretty good. Especially for half-hour TV programming.

Sorry pal, but the EU is dead.

You say “long live the EU,” I say “ding dong the EU’s dead!”

      Good riddance.

I agree entirely! I was in a state of despair when I heard about the EU; it seemed like Star Wars was doomed, especially with the uncertainty of Disney’s plans. I couldn’t be happier with the result though. The new continuity has been great, particularly Tarkin! The old EU had so many ridiculous elements, including Boba Fett’s double escape from the sarlacc. Good riddance indeed. Here’s to the future!

I love the Disney touches to the expressions. I think it adds life that the Clone Wars didn’t have. Im surprised how much I like this series. The more traditional 2D animation styles used in 3D are fantastic.

Loved the Empire logo on a red background. Very Nazi style which fits I think with the feel of the Empire since the OT. Plus the blonde leader with a very female nazi style voice and the tie fighter pilot with a german name.

Oh and the FoxNews/CNN Style Empire Channel that “nobody requests”. Only Empire sheep watch that brainwashing trash apparently ; )

Really like the Ezra development in this one.
Also I like how in this one episode Sabine finally opens up and cares for Ezra but Ezra just kinda ignores her for once.
In the start you even see Sabine taking a moment to look at Ezra in sort of a romantic/guilty look.

Hardly had any Other character parts though.

AHHHH…Bunch of Disney employees as usual on site to insure nothing negative about their approach. Nothing wrong with the continuation of story lines in the EU. Maybe as an alternate time line…but to make a kiddie show canon, is just ridiculous. They have put too much faith in Filoni. I could care less about the EU being canon or not. But, 30 years invested in great stories.(my opinion of course), to just be trashed. And many untold stories at that…hey, there has always been some bad star wars out there. And the bad needs to stay out of being canon for sure. And there are many reasons that this show in particular should not be canon. Believe me, this has truly split the 30-40 year fan base. And Disney will dilute the franchise at their current rate of speed. I do hope that JJ will give us something worth watching and at least a tip of the hat to many of the great characters from the EU…TO INCLUDE MARA JADE, JACEN AND MOST OF ALL JAINA SOLO!

In this episode I sense that Ezra and Sabine will get ‘very’ close. The way she was watching him at the start and then when she keeps approaching him.
I want a Hera-kanen thing on,its not like kanan is a strict follower of the Jedi any more.

Yeah Kanan and Hera could work. They already seem like a couple. I think they’re in the same quarters cause they never show there room(s). It is a kids show after all.

They can’t have kids but Ezra is like an adopted child anyway. Plus even if they could there’s the whole rebellion thing taking up time.

Would be nice if Disney xd caught up with the new shows

By the way anyone notice Eli of Slug Terra and Ezra are almost the same character type?

Judging by the “old disk” in Ezra’s basement, I’m going to say that his father is Kyle Katarn, and no amount of logic can change my mind.
