Update on SW7N.

artoo

Just a quick update on the site.

Today we finished our last step from the full migration process of the site. That’s why you may had troubles accessing SW7N and The Cantina in the last few hours (depending on your web provider)…

A quick recap:

1. Few months ago we migrated the site from blogger to wordpress. A very important step, giving us much more possibilities to satisfy our readers’ demands.

2. Later we moved our site to a new hosting company capable to withstand our traffic with no interruptions and issues.

3. And now we transferred our domain name to a new registrar for a complete unification, together with the domains starwars8news.com and starwars9news.com. Still these domains will not be used directly in the future.

In January 2016 we will change our name from starwarsnewsnet.com to something different that will remain a secret for now.  Thanks for your patience and support.

P.S. It is normal to have problems accessing our site in the last few hours. Our DNS servers are being rewritten so it depends on your web provider, how quickly they will refresh them. After this, everything should be running smoothly in the future. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I must admit I’m rather pleased with your advanced level of progress. It’s a pity. I was so looking forward to your eventual demise. <(;^C)

So why did you buy those domains if you don’t actually need them???

Good question. First I had different plans. And now I don’t want anyone else to use them. And still they will have a supporting role in the future. 😉

Long-time lurker, first-time commenter. I found you online through Google originally. I’m also a web developer. Honestly, I think you’re making a mistake regarding the other domains.

“Star Wars 7 News” and variations of that key phrase get high amounts of traffic through search engines (as you most likely know). Using the same formula here for independent blogs on 8 and 9 should get you even more readers as those movies go through their cycle of production and release.

Migrating to WordPress was a great move. But why not continue to use the 7, 8, and 9 sites specifically for the news blogs, then use the new domain as a community of sorts where the Cantina is located? Those 8 and 9 domains are very valuable and will get you more traffic in the future. Once 7 comes and goes, the 7-oriented keywords will lose a lot of traffic. The same will happen with 8 eventually, and then 9. Take advantage of this to drive traffic to the main site.

Just my two cents. Keep up the great work.

Hey anon, domain names are important but inbound links matter more than keywords in search results. Google prioritizes inbound links to determine contextual relevancy, I.e. if people are linking to your site it’s probably legit. So it’s better to have one site with a bunch of links pointing toward it than several sites, which will dilute link equity. Viral is doing the right thing. You buy the other domains and 301 redirect to a single domain. Plus from a user experience it’s better to keep people on one site rather than have them hop around, especially since a lot of the news and conversations overlap anyway.

PD: Yes, inbound links matter most but keywords in the domain still carry significant weight. And why not have many links to a few site rather than one? Just because you have more than one website, doesn’t mean they all can’t have a significant amount of inbound links.
