Rumor: Is Simon Pegg Really in Star Wars: Episode 7?

star wars

Here’s an interesting rumor suggesting that actor Simon Pegg was at Abu Dhabi with the rest of the cast and shot some secretive scenes. The principal cast of the film was officially announced in a press release last month with some later additions, but is that all the actors in the film…

From IGN:

According to our source, actor Simon Pegg, previously seen in JJ Abram’s ‘Star Trek’ series and ‘Mission Impossible 3’, is in fact playing a secret role in the film and was present on set to shoot scenes in Abu Dhabi. This is in stark contrast to what Pegg had to say about a possibility of starring in Star Wars previously:

“I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to be in it, to be honest. I think J.J. should cast new faces with no stunt casting.”

star wars

Pegg was rumored on several occasions to appear in the new Star Wars movie and I was one of the people who always said that cast members from Abrams’ Star Trek won’t appear in Star Wars. But Simon Pegg is really special and I won’t be surprised if he is an exception. Why is he so special? First of all he is a huge Star Wars fan and second he is a big personal friend to Abrams.

Here are two videos from the past showing his passion for Star Wars:

Another interesting fact: almost all of the Episode 7 cast members who have Twitter accounts are following each other. And it’s really curious that Simon Pegg is followed on Twitter by: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and of course the official accounts of Star Wars, ILM, Bad Robot and Kathleen Kennedy’s production company.

Of course this might be just a coincidence, after all 4.1 million people are following Pegg on Twitter. Still some of the Episode 7 cast members who follow him have only around 60 people they follow so keep that in mind.

Also we have to consider another possibility: Pegg just visiting the set as a special guest to his friend Abrams. That’s according to makingstarwars.net and quite frankly that possibility sounds more plausible than an actual cameo by the actor.

Damn it! Some bastard stole my parking space! pic.twitter.com/PU0F1grYqL

And rememmber one month ago when Pegg was at Elstree Studio (where the Original Trilogy was filmed) doing some recordings for the Elstree Project? Then he parked his car on a parking spot tagged Harrison Ford. Many people assumed that this was some kind of hint but later the actor cleared the confusion.

A fair few people assumed I was at Pinewood today but I was in fact at @ElstreeStudios to contribute to the @elstreeproject. Not SW biz.

So probably the situation now is identical. But you never know.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a cameo as a prosthetic or mask wearing character. Something like his unrecognizable cameo in the “DON’T” fake trailer.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he was there as some kind of fan reference and comic relief. Opinions of what is non-offensive to the star wars legacy, and from a mega fan, could be helpful in the process and in boosting moral.

If Simon Pegg doesn’t like episode 7, will he be as vocal about it as he has been about the prequels? Hopefully, we will get a great movie and we will never know.

seems to me that someone who has that much disrespect for half the Star Wars films ever made should not get the privilege to be part of one.

Seems to me like it would be pretty crappy to say that someone should be denied work for the ‘crime’ of having his own opinion about something.

So the majority of the people who made the prequels shouldn’t be allowed to make more? The prequels were a mess and people, even those who work on the new ones, have the right to say so. Simon said what he did because he loves Star Wars at its best and was let down by what George did to the prequels. Loving something doesn’t mean you don’t speak up when it is being sullied. It means quite the opposite.

I’m somewhat surprised by this news. However, I’m confident Pegg has the utmost respect for Star Wars. If he’s going to be in it in any capacity, I’m sure it’ll all be for the best.

    It’s not like he’s unaware of Jar-Jar. 0_o

There’s a whole episode of Spaced (written by Pegg) where his character cannot find any possible way to get over how god-awful the prequels were. If he has any part in the ST, it’ll most definitly be for the best, not just so he can say he was in Star Wars.

Who care if Pegg is in two Outer Space movies that have no relation to each other. Its called acting & their actors to play roles. Why is it ok for John Wayne to act in 20 westerns but its a problem if one actor is in two space movies! Cumberbatch as well should be in a Star Wars movie. Maybe someday in Episode 10 or a Spinoff people wont complain about it!

      Well said, Stormin.
And after all, Harrison Ford was not only in the Star Wars OT but also in all the Indiana Jones, both Lucasfilm productions. And who cared at that time to find Han Solo running in the jungle? Probably not so many people, given how these movies were successful.

I would not care for any kind of Star Trek actors making appearances in Star Wars. It would end up coming off as more of the eye winking to the audience drek that would kill the movie for me.

I agree. These franchises should stay separated. It is bad enough that the same Director (Abrams) is used. I think JJ is better suited for SW than for Trek. But in essence he has ruined Trek by (and he stated that himlself as a set goal) “making it more like Starwars”. He has thereby turned Trek into something undistinguishable from Ironman & Co. Completely ruining the “space ships with carpets, diplomacy, moral dialogs in turbolifts”-scify that was so different to the rest. Like it or not Trek had impressive Dialog, and amazing villains. Bearded Romulans just weren’t IT.

That said I think with SW JJ might do a better job. At least I like the fact that he decided to move away from the Apple-Look he created for Trek, to some more farscape-puppet less CGI based approach.

On TESB, Treat Williams showed up one day, saw we were having so much fun and said, “Gee, I’d like to do this.” He was handed a uniform and next day appeared as an extra. Star Wars was/is that kind of gig and that kind of family. How else would Dak do two days a Boba Fett without having to clear it first with the lawyers, the union or his agent? Believe, folks. Believe….

Do you all remember the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE movie? It was weird that they chose to make it mostly on Earth. I’m assuming it was because of the cost. And I will say it wasn’t totally crazy because I believe Prince Adam is half Earthling because of his mom, right?
Well, I bring this up just to ask, would you all like to see the Star Wars universe clash with Earthlings?

I sort of agree. But he is a friend of JJ, meaning he laughts about JJ jokes on set. Remember back in JJs Startrek that was a casting criterion:
“Hm, should I make a movie with Patrick Steward or a talentless teen actor?”
“I’ll go for the teen actor, he will have laugh about my jokes on set”.
