New Rumors on Star Wars: Episode 7 Plot Details and Casting.

star wars

Several new rumors regarding the new Star Wars movie have been posted by MarketSaw today. Hit the jump to find out what their source thinks the story of Episode 7 will be about, as well as some thoughts on the recent casting buzz…

Here’s who their source think will end up in Episode 7:

“Ian McDiarmid, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davies, Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman. I believe Cumberbatch and Oldman were pursued for the same role, but I don’t know how that will work out with the script changes, but I’m told they are both involved.”

On the current state of the project:

“Many Star Wars pre-production issues, an ‘inadequate’ central story which nobody would stamp off on, a problematic initial release date and an ‘indecisive’ director (J.J. Abrams) with the hardest gig in the industry. It’s not going to be a cakewalk, but it will be a product shipping with the majority of its original parts.”

star wars

On the potential story:

“Ultimately it’s about twins, and which will take a path towards darkness and which will follow in their fathers footsteps, or at least that is what it used to be, that may come later as I think changes are being undertaken to bring the original cast into the forefront of the story leading to ramifications that lead up to the next generation of Skywalkers.”

 On Harrison Ford and Indy:

“Regarding Harrison Ford, two more Indiana Jones features are in the negotiation stages as per Ford’s contract clause on Star Wars, which is the primary reason he didn’t ‘publicly’ or ‘privately’ commit, or so I’m told.”

Actually most of the things they said we’ve heard before to some extent. The only new thing is about the potential plot. I really doubt the actual Episode 7 plot would leak just like that. If this outline is legit then it’s probably from a part of Arndt’s script that was scraped. So take these with the usual dosage of salt. 🙂

By the way I’m preparing an article for tomorrow for some other casting bits. Part of the story is again quite the opposite of what we’ve heard so far (in a similar way as the story about the spin-off movies being about characters not from the movieverse). So stay tuned for this one.

There are too many pieces here that suggest this source is not entirely accurate when compared to information we’ve recieved in the passed year or so. I for one am not going to take it seriously at all. In fact, it’s probably best not to take any rumors seriously at this point until production is fully underway. That’s a good time for information to leak.

Agreed. And I don’t know why Ford would want to be in two more Indiana Jones movies, it’s not like he put any effort into ‘Crystal Skull’

I think Ford tried as hard as the script would let him. I thought it was an alright movie. Didn’t come close to the original 3. Maybe things will be different and the next two won’t be phoned in by the writers and directors…

hahah that’s so innocent of you to say. But seriously Ford 100% wants to be in Indiana Jones films. He does films for the money and he has either hinted that, or just flat out admitted it in a lot of interviews now, especially when it comes to him wanting to do another Indiana Jones.

But we’ve already done with the whole family-turning-to-the-dark-side and redemption thing. I’d like twins but I don’t want them to be what the main plot is about for christ sake. Surely it should continue the star wars theme of the one main character, a skywalker, so it should be about Luke’s son. Then the twins (Leia and Han”s) can be the new sidekicks like Han and Leia were. The characters should feel familiar and respect the continuity, but the story obviously needs to be new. We’ve done the whole person-from-my-family-turns-to-the-dark-side-and-I-must-choose-to-kill-them-or-redeem-them. So yeah hopefully that was scraped. I like the sound of Ian Mcdiarmid coming back. He was the key villain for all 6 episodes. It would seem weird to have some random three episodes with a threat that has nothing to do with what came before. Plus it’s the emperor, the dark side surely must have a thing similar to the jedi. The jedi come back as ghosts, perhaps palpatine comes back in some zombie type body thing and has a new apprentice.

I’m sorry but that Idea sounds ridiculous. No Palpatine died. He’s dead. Move on. Bring in a new villain who is amazingly terrifying! I don’t want to see Palpatine clones at all, it’s ridiculous. Just as they retconned force unleashed so too should most of the EU especially the ability to clone jedi’s or force sensitves

I’m Anon from 5:39, and I still think even having him in this movie would be ridiculous, IF and only if they don’t establish the idea that a Sith can also, like a Jedi, become a Force Ghost and be able to call to the living from beyond the grave and that somehow Sidious learned this technique in either Rebels or possibly the new Yoda arc for the bonus content of TCW.

If they don’t tell us that he learned this technique then I think it would ridiculous to have him in Episode VII

I know, because I was there, that Yoda is going to come back as the bad guy in this one, having lost to the Emperor in the last movie. He’s really mad and is going to kill all of the jedi, including Luke and his son’s and Padme too.

The twins will be the same story from the EU, Jaina and Jacen, Jaina will be the protagonist along with Ben. In the first film the three must become hero. In the second Jacen must go to the dark side, by seeking power or manipulated by other sith. I understand that as the jedi order sith in order reformulations will also have to break the order of two. Palpatine is a spirit of strength.

I can deal with twins and one goes to the dark side. But it can’t be how episode 7 starts off. Episode 7 should be about lukes son Ben, and then the twins as sidekicks. Then if one of the twins goes dark side it should be in episode 8 as the middle act is always the darkest. I wouldn’t like it if the twins were the main plot. I’d much prefer the main character to be ben. And I hope his name is ben as that would be cool. .. (yes, I’m being extremely picky)

Yeah, a lot of this has been said already and ironed out. The pre-production issues of release date and script have been delt with. Cast is almost worked out. Sounds like old info. Oh, and we already knew this film wouldn’t be a cakewalk. It has to be great. It can’t just be good, and it most definitly can not be decent. So yeah, I can see why JJ might be indecisive on some things. Star Trek this is not.

I don’t buy it because it seems very conservative. Most of those cast members are from the OT and the (very) basic story outline is by far the easiest guess at this point. It’s still possible but it seems like this would have taken minimal effort to come up with as well.

Well it’s inaccurate if you look at the twins part. Jacen and Jaina are Hans kids. If one is going Dark and one light following in the footstep of dad, then that makes them Lukes kids. Ben is the only child of Luke and Mara, and rumor has it that Ben will be in the film along with Jason and Jaina.

yeah, that´s a very week plot point, repeating what has already happened one generation earlier., the new dark side threat shouldn´t be anyone of the kids. young innocent looking actors who first play good, then to turn evil never really works well. Create a new bas ass sith with weird armour or tatto´s or from a weird species.

Luke turning to the dark side after he saved his father & founded the new jedi order (if that will be part of the story) would just not make sense, if powerful sith returns, then Luke is the best & maybe the only hope to stand against it. Also Luke has guidance from forceghosts, wich Anakin didn´t

Can’t wait for the actual announcement form Disney on the big3 & Billy Dee Williams , I think Palpatine will be a hologram or a Ghost & he will be mentoring his secret apprentice who will wreck havoc on the Big 3 & their offspring…..

Hopefully palpatine is back as palpatine. No holograms. No ghosts. No clones. He is the master of the dark side of the force, he said in episode 3 he was going to find a way to cheat death, and I believe him. He had a lot of time to do that. and he had a lot of time when he was falling into the death star to tap into the mystical powers of the dark side of the force and resurrect himself somewhere and use the force to duplicate his body back into the world again. I mean there needs to be something to tie in these films, it’s episode 7, a continuation of the story. So surely either the empire is still there, or palpatine is still there, or both. And it makes sense within the laws of star wars with the force and stuff. If Jedi come back as ghosts, sith must be able to come back one way or another.

Yes! & isn´t Palpatine the most powerfull sith ever? He pursued the goal of cheating death already in ep.III (& it is implied that he maybe already knew the secret) -Maybe he is stuck somewhere between dead & alive? & needs an apprentice to help him regain full power?

If one of them is to return, i´d prefer Palpatine over Vader (although Vaders armour is always missed) It would be interesting though if the forcespirit of Anakin is to work against Palpatine whatever form he may have. & with the forceghosts of Yoda & ObiWan it is 3 against 1! 🙂

PS. what if Palpatine returns in Darth Vaders armour? 😀 (hahaa, NO, just kidding) although i wouldn´t mind seeing some sort of elite troopers in Vaderinspired armour

Palpatine being around undermines Vader’s redemption!

I’d prefer a holocron. Holocrons include personality imprints, and everything needed to train someone into being a sith. That is most likely, if Palpy is in it.

    • February 25, 2014 at 1:43 pm
      Permalink

The whole “cheat death” thing in ROTS ended up mainly being a way to scam Anakin into turning to the dark side. Remember, the second Anakin turned, it went from “I can show you how to do it” to “Well, maybe together we can discover its secret.”

IMHO it’d be a rather cheap gimmick to suddenly bring Palpatine back based on that. The dark side was around long before Palpatine and it will be around long after him. Better to have the “troubled” character in the ST discover old Sith teachings or a place or artifact steeped in the dark side and fall due to his or her own ambition than to try and justify bringing Palpatine back yet again,

    • February 25, 2014 at 2:12 pm
      Permalink

Well palpatine needs to somewhat be involved to tie in episode 7. I know the whole ‘cheat death’ was a bit of an exaggeration/lie to get Anakin to come to the dark side, but as I said, I believe he was telling some truth in it. I believe he really was finding a way to cheat death. He practically had his lifetime to do that. But if palpatine is not back, then the new villain should at least have something to do with palpatine. Maybe Palpatine was training a sith in secret during the original trilogy incase the vader/luke plan didn’t work (which it didn’t), and then the apprentice is told by palpatine how to use the force to resurrects him should he die, or the apprentice just takes palpatine’s place altogether. Bringing back vader would be absolutely ridiculous because his character was redeemed, bringing back plalpatine makes sense because he was the main villain, and with the dark side of the force it’s easily plausible for him to have done that.

    • February 25, 2014 at 2:28 pm
      Permalink

See, but then the dark side of the Force just becomes Palpatine. IMHO it would be far more interesting to differentiate the ST by showing that the dark side can seduce people even without the machinations of a Sith supervillain like Palpatine. That killing off the Sith does not eliminate the dark side.

“Palpatine being around undermines Vader’s redemption!”
How? Vader was redeemed because of his realisation and change of heart about Luke, not Palpatine. If anything, it makes the tragedy of darth vader even more tragic, and that’s good.

I don’t understand how Palpatine would “tie together episode 7.” We already have R2 to do that, and most likely the big3. But most importantly, IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE TIED TOGETHER. IT’S IN THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE THAT IN IT’S SELF IS ENOUGH.

    • February 25, 2014 at 5:57 pm
      Permalink

Forever_ you are completely missing the point. Palpatine would tie in episode 7’s story. You can’t have 6 episodes of palpatine, then randomly have 3 episode set 35 years later that have nothing to do with anything. Luckily/hopefully they are bring some of the main cast back to help tie it together, but they need either the emperor or the empire to still be in tact to tie in the story.
Also IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE TIED TOGETHER. IT’S IN THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE THAT IN IT’S SELF IS ENOUGH.’ is an absolutely ridiculous statement. Imagine if in 40 years time they made 3 more harry potter films with nothing to do with voldermort, Harry, Ron, Hermoine. This new film is not episode 1 of a new star wars saga. This is episode 7 of the continuing star wars saga. It’s telling more of the story. It simply cannot be all new. “We already have R2 to do that, and most likely the big3.” Oh right well then I suppose that settles it then..?

Obviously you don’t know that they’re making a new Harry Potter film that has nothing to do with voldemort, harry, ron, and hermoine. The ST does not need palpatine, he wasn’t the most important thing in the Saga.

Ok firstly- “Obviously you don’t know that they’re making a new Harry Potter film that has nothing to do with voldemort, harry, ron, and hermoine.” ..No, JK Rowling is writing a new set of films that is in the same universe as the Harry potter films, but the films are a completely new series. The story is all new, it’s set years before the events of harry potter. So it’s unlike episode 7, which is a continuation of the present saga. So yet again, you’re both wrong and missing point.
Secondly- “The ST does not need palpatine, he wasn’t the most important thing in the Saga.” ..Star wars without the emperor wouldn’t even be possible. He’s the reason Vader and the empire existed. He was the main antagonist. How is that not important?!
wow it really is clear you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Same universe as Harry Potter books/films = New “Harry Potter” movie. That’s a pretty easy concept to grasp.

On to the matter of Palpatine, you clearly don’t know anything about story progression, bring back an old villain, especially so long after they are established dead is a massive mistake. It both makes the struggle or boring rehash of what we’ve already seen and makes the conflict & triumph in earlier parts of the story feel worthless. The original Star Wars didn’t have the Emperor at all and ESB barely had him, the antagonist of the OT was Vader (and to some extend the Empire as a whole because it was about the struggle of the Rebel Alliance not just Luke) and beyond that the concept of the Dark Side. The same is true with the PT, it’s not so much Paplatine being important but the corruption and evil/dark side he represents. This is a new trilogy with a new story, not merely Return of the Jedi part2. The logic you’re implying would mean that to stay in line with the rest of the saga the new trilogy would have to relate to Anakin, not palpatine and even that is incorrect. Following patterns it would either be about new Skywalkers, which according to rumors seems to be the case, or about another stage in Luke’s life, introspecting on the events of the past and how that knowledge will help defend against a new threat from the Dark Side.

“Same universe as Harry Potter books/films = New “Harry Potter” movie. That’s a pretty easy concept to grasp.”
Are you an idiot? How many times do I have to repeat this? This is NOT going to be a new Harry Potter movie. It’s called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Nothing to do with the story of Harry Potter. It’s a brand new film series unlike episode 7. A new episode of a film series is a next installment and continuing a story that’s been set up. Which is what episode 7 is. (the clue is is 7. It’s the 7th installment to the story) Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is a brand new series altogether. Sure it’s set in the same universe as Harry Potter, but the story bares no relation to the story of the Harry Potter books/films. This is not a difficult concept!
“bring back an old villain, especially so long after they are established dead is a massive mistake.”
He did not die in epiosde 3, or 4.. Palpatine died in the last 20 minutes of episode 6. So if you then watch episode 7, it is not “long after they are established dead” at all. It literally just happened in the story. Sure, it will presumably be around 35 years in the actual timeline going from episode 6 to episode 7, but we as an audience are not going to experience 35 years when watching episode 7. We will pick up right at the start of the story. Come on the particular time of an event doesn’t matter at all, what matters is the story.

“makes the conflict & triumph in earlier parts of the story feel worthless.” Great. That’s what stories should do. You should feel compelled to find out what’s going to happen next. A story is not told simply for ‘triumph’. What’s your point anyway? So you’re saying blowing up the death star in episode 4 doesn’t feel worthless? Even though the empire wasn’t destroyed afterwards? Well you should. That’s part of the brilliance of storytelling, the heroes are doing well, then it turns out they didn’t do as well as you think, then the villains are doing well, then the upper hand goes back to the heroes, then you think it’s all over, then a plot twist comes back and shakes things up, then it goes all wrong again, then the heroes strike back, etc etc etc etc etc. This is all part of how plots develop.
“boring rehash”. Something boring is a failure in the execution of the plot. The concept itself of continuing and keeping a character doesn’t mean it’s a “boring rehash” at all. So by that logic you don’t want to see R2 and 3PO back because they will be like they were before? and therefore a “boring rehash”? No, the story will change, their role will change, the circumstances will change, and the plot will be all new, so their characters will remain interesting. Similar to how Palpatine could be interesting. Perhaps he has become weak, perhaps he has become even more eratic and silly. Perhaps he’s become darker. Who knows? Simply bringing back a character is not a rehash, it’s a continuation. If you think it’s boring, then that’s a failing of the execution of the plot. Which could happen with a new character or an old character. It makes no difference.
“The original Star Wars didn’t have the Emperor at all and ESB barely had him, the antagonist of the OT was Vader”
Duh. Of course vader was an antagonist. But the main main main villain of the story (not the relation to characters, screentime, or whatever) was always the emperor. Do you seriously think that just because somebody doesn’t have screentime, their role in the story is non-existent? What’s your point? The main threat was the emperor. Without him, there wouldn’t be the empire. He was the main villain. Vader was the muscle, apprentice, and the emperors enforcer. Episode 7 could easily do this again. Have a new apprentice, while the emperor (the main villain) is back as the ultimate evil puppet master. He could only have 5 minutes of screentime in episode 7 and still be the main antagonist. While his apprentice, like vader was, can do the heavy lifting so to speak.

*sigh* You’ve managed to completely fail in grasping what I’m saying. My point with Harry Potter was that it doesn’t matter that the original characters aren’t involved but that the themes, tone and rules make it a “Harry Potter” movie.
I don’t know how to make it more clear that palpatine was merely a facade of the Dark Side and everything that is evil. Sure he was a puppet master of characters but in the grand scheme of things he could be viewed as a marionette himself. There are also two things called time scale and suspension of disbelief, regardless of time that the AUDIENCE has seen a character we’re told, and thus believe it’s been longer. A sizable amount of time is inferred between ESB and ROTJ, it doesn’t matter if I saw Luke 2 minutes ago I know he’s grown up more and matured as that the circumstances have changed between that time. So yes it would be along time ago in terms of the story because if they tell us it’s been a long time, it’s been a long time.
Blowing up the Death Star in ANH only for a new one to be built doesn’t diminish that initial victory because more importantly than the Death Star’s destruction was the survival of the Alliance, they were on the defensive the verge of being utterly annihilated and they knew that their fight against the Empire was far from over. The death of palpatine and redemption of darth vader is on a whole nother level. It wasn’t survival, but victory and the *permanent* end to one threat as well as the final note in Anakin’s story. Resolution to a story arc, and here they have the chance to make a new arc, carrying over tone, themes and the overall universe with it. The focus of the saga was supposed to be the skywalkers as well as the rise and fall of vader not the rise and fall of palpatine. But honestly, it doesn’t require a literature major to tell that bring back palpatine would be contrived.

“So yes it would be along time ago in terms of the story because if they tell us it’s been a long time, it’s been a long time.” Yes, in the timeline. This does not matter. He could come back a week after the events of ROTJ, or 50 years after ROTJ. The sith in general took 1000 years to come back after their extinction. 50 years is not long.

“Blowing up the Death Star in ANH only for a new one to be built doesn’t diminish that initial victory because more importantly than the Death Star’s destruction was the survival of the Alliance,”
Blowing up the death star and the survival of the allience is the literally exact same events that happened in ROTJ.
“The death of palpatine and redemption of darth vader is on a whole nother level. It wasn’t survival, but victory and the *permanent* end to one threat as well as the final note in Anakin’s story.”
You’re missing the point. Was it really the permanent end to one threat? Yes, Anakins story has been told, he has been redeemed. Done. The only reason palpatines story has been told is that he died. But, my point is, that he could come back via the force for a new plot, and then as you even said yourself “they have the chance to make a new arc, carrying over tone, themes and the overall universe with it.”
“The focus of the saga was supposed to be the skywalkers as well as the rise and fall of vader not the rise and fall of palpatine.”
Yes. I know. and Palpatine was the main key to this. He was the main villain. Anakin has nothing to do with this. Why are you bring up this point?
“it doesn’t require a literature major to tell that bring back palpatine would be contrived.” As I said before, the plot of how it’s done is a completley different thing. They could create a new character and it could be contrived. They could kill off a character and it could be contrived. All parts of a story could potentially be contrived. And all parts of a story have the potential to not be contrived. A character rising from the death, or cheating death, is ridiculous on paper. But, this is star wars. Are you telling me a battle station that blows up plannets isn’t contrived? That when Jedi die they can come back as ghosts to help the main characters, is not contrived? Characters coming back have been done before in the star wars universe. So by this logic, Palpatine could come back. While also having a huge effect on the story, even if, as I say, he doesn’t have any screentime.
“And I referenced R2 as a joke and because he is the only technically confirmed character not because his actual presence makes it Star Wars” JJ has said- “well how can you do star wars without R2?” It is pretty safe to say that one of the main reasons they are bringing back R2 is because his presence just screams star wars.

Haha, well then you really do not understand the argument at all. My argument is based on storytelling, and the potential of what could be good storytelling. I’ve seen some really great discussions about what could happen to Palpatine and his involvement. But then there are people who shoot it down because they don’t understand why it could be special, what effect it could have on the story, and just generally refuse to open up their mind to the potential of it. You claim a lot of your argument is based on storytelling, when you don’t understand the role of the character I’m even talking about and then talk about how it’s the end of the world to continue the story of the main villain after he died, even though it’s established in star wars that if you’re strong in the force, you can come back… Palpatine coming back could happen within the laws of star wras/the force, and could be great depending on the story, especially if Luke or his kids are involved too. Alternate universes, Anakin coming back, re-casting, is all ridiculous to the connection of the audience, the continuity of star wars, and it’s storytelling. Palpatine’s involvement can easily be done and if there is a good story and a good reason- his involvement could be really great to start off a fresh new story via a character that ties in all 9 episodes theme of the rise of the republic when palpatine was a senator, the empire when palpatine was the creepy emperor, and then whatever he’s up to in episodes 7-9. Palpatine can tie everything in together. episode 1-6 also follow his target, Vader. But as Vader is dead, we can assume that instead of the theme being Vader, it’s the skywalkers in general. So Luke and his Kid can be the next Anakin and Luke. There’s lots of things they can do to tie these episodes theme. But god I feel really sorry for fans of star wars who then just moan about how things contradicts the EU, how their age or timeline is somehow going to make the story bad, blah blah blah. So I shall eagerly await the wondrous possibilities of episode 7, and I’ll leave people to deal with their cynicism to themselves. And if I’m coming across as rude I apologise it’s just very frustrating when people don’t open their minds or bother to look any further into what I am actually saying, and then claim that it is I am the one who doesn’t know what I am talking about.

“Palpatine can tie everything in together”
Palpatine doesn’t have to tie everything together. Sure, he’s a consistent villain throughout the PT and ST, but that’s because those stories specifically focused around Anakin Skywalker’s rise in the Darkside, his realization and fall. When Vader dies, the continous conflict between Sidious and the Republic/Rebel alliance died with him. The end of EpVI was the relief Anakin/Vader waited for. He could rest easy knowing that his master, one of the greatest threats to the galactic order, was defeated after a quarrell that lasted for generations. To drag it along even further would be redundant and foolish. They can come up with something better for the new generation of heroes to face. It’d just be more interesting than beating a dead horse for everyone.

The story cannot be all new, it would just be ridiculous. It’s episode 7 so it has to pick up where episode 6 left off. You can’t jump to something all new. I am making the poin that the main villian was palpatine. What is it with you two with this idea that if they bring a character back, then they’re bringing back the exact same story of the character with it and are just going to copy it. No. Palpatine is a charcter. The story is a different thing, so when they make the story fresh, it won’t therefore be beaating a dead horse. What if palpatine turned even more crazy. or he went to korriban and raised a sith army, or he negotiated with an alien race to invade and take back the galaxy again. Then if the main heroes are the kids of Luke and stuff, then the whole plot and arc is going to be all new, so then it is in no way beating a dead horse. It just remains that the puppet master is still there to give some relevence and a continuing merge to the original trilogy’s story, of conquering palpatine’s power. But of course the films herores and the bad guys apprentices or general or smugglers or whatever will be all new, and a fresh new plot will be established, whilst it’s also continuing where episode 6 left off.

The conflict that Palpatine inflicted was the story! The ST will not be entirely new. EpVII is going to serve as a transitional film between the previous story that we saw conclude and the answers to questions we didn’t get such as: does Lei ever fulfill her destiny for her namesake and become a powerful Jedi? Does Luke set the stages for the next order of Jedi to emerge? I don’t think anyone’s curious as to whether or not Sidious survived that enormous drop… *joking*
If Palpatine did return, Ian McDiarmid would have to play him and he’s said that he enjoyed his involvement in Star Wars, but wants no more of it. I wouldn’t mind if Sidious returned briefly as a force ghost to tempt a child of the Solos or something like that, but after 35 years since his death, it take enormous focus and power to contact a living manipulator of the force from beyond the grave. That’s something you have to take into consideration. Depending on the manner of his return, it could work if it was done correctly, but for him to return in a physical state as the primary villain for the ST would be a poorly constructed continuation, in my opinion. I know Kasdan and Abrams can come up with better than that. They don’t need to use any major plot points from the EU. It just wouldn’t be Star Wars.
The Star Wars franchise has always been film based. For them to use large segments of the story from the books would be breaking the mold that the saga has taken 40 years to make their own. It’s not Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter; Star Wars is something entirely its’ own and I for one would like to see it kept that way. I like being surprised by plot twists in the theater, not knowing exactly what’s going to happen because I read the book beforehand. Being a fan that’s read a huge amount of EU books and comics, it’d be fairly simple for me to recognize characters and significant plot points from those books. That’s one thing I’m hoping will not happen with the new trilogy.

“Depending on the manner of his return, it could work if it was done correctly”.
Finally! we got there! Duh, anything can work if it’s done correctly. That’s the whole point. The same way that anything can fall flat on it’s face if it’s done incorrectly. At the end of the day and in a perfect world it would be done correctly. And if something is done correctly, then it can be amazing. So there is no problem. Things like alternate universes, copying EU stuff, bringing back vader have very little chance of being done correctly so there is no point. It’s not a difficult concept people.

“Just because Palpatine is a consistent villain doesn’t make him the source of the evil being faced.” Right, he was only the main villain in episode 1. and episode 2. and episode 3. and episode 4. and episode 5. and episode 6. pffft consistency, who cares about consistency right?

Umm, hello people. Palpatine wasn’t killed at the end of Ep VI. He was just thrown into a hole in the Death Star. I’ve read that on his way down after being thrown, he calls his good friends, the red suit guys who left his chamber, and they whisk him away in a ship. That’s how he is still alive and will be in Ep. 7. I also hear that they are going to bring back Yoda too — he is going to have his consciousness transferred into another guy who looks like him and he’ll be back.

I’m pretty sure that’s what is going to happen. I think Luke will be in it too, but he’s sort of old and probably won’t be able to fight and stuff. Maybe he’ll be like O-B-1 and be a hermit who teaches people the force stuff? I would like to see that, and also have Leia and Han back, maybe with some Wookies too, like Chewy, and they can still have the Milennium Falcon and fly around in it, looking for the Emperor.

I wouldn’t mind a return of Palpatine as a force ghost secretly communicating to one of the twins luring them to the darkside. The Emperor did say to Luke -strike me down- and that he would be more powerful was Obi wan did said as well, but when Vader picked him up and gave him the toss, he screamed like a baby. What would have that mattered versus being struck down by Luke? He was already done with Vader, it just seems odd. I do like a twins mottif that was more in line with what Lucas toyed with originally. When Yoda says there is another, it wasn’t determined yet for Liea to be the sister. It was another Jedi being trained on the other side of the galaxy by the emperor. That unused idea was utilized by Zahn in developing Mara Jade.

The Emperor did not tell Luke to strike him down so he could become more powerful by becoming one with the Force, a la Obi-Wan. He knew Vader wouldn’t allow Luke’s blade to reach him. Palpatine was just taunting Luke, trying to have him fall to the dark side through anger. Even at 13 (my age when RoTJ came out) I could easily understand that trick. There was nothing mystical or spiritual about it.

This way the sword of the Jedi novels can continue, Vestera and Ben can go on loving / hating each other in the books whilst a very different arc can take place in the movies. It is afterall a long time ago and legends change over time. Sorta like the Gospels by Luke and Mark (get it?) I really wish to read more about Jaina, Allana, Ben l, Vestera and the lost tribe…

First, this batch of rumors linked to, is simultaneously, bare-bones, and unprofessional. It honestly sounds like someone looked at other rumors, and then repeated them with their own opinion about the production.

That whole “it was a re-write” will be the big excuse that fake rumor makers will use when the films come out. We need to keep a tally of who’s pan out.

Palpatine could be in footage, or most likely as a Holocron, because those carry personality imprints, and knowledge of force-use. Him simply being around would absolutely undermine TOT, not likely.

I really want the Yuuzhan Vong to be in this! Bendict Cumberbatch decked out in a Star Wars looking version of an Uruk-Hai(LOTR). Course don’t make them look exactly like that but same idea…ish. The Jedi vs Sith is the core of Star Wars conflict, understood. However, the Sith need an army. If we have the original stars coming back for appearances, that obviously means The Republic will be in control of the galaxy and The Empire has slowly died out due to the destuction of The Death Star. IMO this requires a NEW Threat. Something FAR more dangerous and devastating than The Empire, something worse. I also understand that Star Wars is an all ages thing, and the Yuuzhan Vong brought alot of violence to the EU books, but it got my attention! The dopey Trade Fed. droids were stupid and childish. Give me something that will grasp my attention and make me think “Crap! This enemy ain’t no joke!” IMO the Yuuzhan Vong can do this. Now how you tie that in with the Jedi vs Sith conflict, I’ll leave up to Abrams & Kashdan. Don’t base it directly off the books, but use it as an antagonist to the story maybe. Either way I’m excited to see what happens in these movies and happy they didn’t let these great stories die on a terrible tone that the prequels left it. STAR WARS IS AWESOME!
