UPDATE! Star Wars Twitter Buzz: First Star Wars Spin-Off Movie Pushed Back to 2017?

star wars

Few interesting tweets from the day. The possible delay of the first spin-off movie is nothing unexpected especially after the Episode 7 release delay. Hit the jump for some cool Star Wars: Rebels tweets and why the rumors on this blog are “dumb”…

So here we go…

Hey Lucasfilm. This might be a good day to tell the world that the first Star Wars spin-off film has been pushed back to 2017.

@MakingStarWars Episode VIII will come out in 2018, at the earliest. I have a feeling it might come out in May 2019.

And to be honest with the fans: After we posted the Mara Jade and the other Episode 7 rumors Pablo Hidalgo of Lucasfilm who is also responsible for the new Star Wars canon changed his Twitter status to:

I won’t comment on rumors, no matter how dumb they are. Ask about the past, and I might be able to answer.”

@infinata @ericgeller I hope you’re not saying that the fans who find these rumors interesting and plausible are stupid too. Huge respect!
— Star Wars 7 News (@starwars7news) January 31, 2014

As I said on another board I have a huge respect for Pablo Hidalgo. I don’t know if he is referring to the rumors we posted here, but we received a huge amount of positive reactions. People are enthusiastic and anxiously discussing the possibilities. And just calling these rumors “dumb” is really like calling the fans dumb. I think these rumors are maybe the first ones that kinda made sense. But still they are just rumors and because of the lack of anything else we should stick up with them.

I can assure you that they’re not just some speculations coming from a fan’s imagination. Some of them were heard by others bloggers too but we decided to post them. They sound pretty plausible and we trust our sources. If they happen to be wrong, well good, the life goes on. Still we have a helluva discussion and the wait is more bearable this way.

And if you feel dumbed down by our rumors please accept our apology, but we still stand behind them.

these guys have been consistently wrong about pretty much everything. I’m not even following their “info” anymore.

Ali Arikan had some very good hits with the PT. I know he said some things about Ep.7 that were not true but this is because of Disney’s new strategy of leaked info.

Because of this strategy, it’s very difficult to filter the legitimate rumors from the completely false ones. Very smart on their part, although it may be annoyingas hell.

Someone call George Lucas plis and have him take the reigns so we get some progress !!

There is plenty of progress underway. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Patience…

First this is just moronic, how can anyone belive this crap and SECOND WTF is wrong with LUCASFILM ? do they get a kick out of all this rumor crap ? why the f do we get info on rebels from lego boxes in germany and not from starwars.com ? We told them this secret nonsence wont work with star wars fans but do they listen noooo And fans are getting more and more angry on fansites and podcasts etc etc all because they are having fun with fans in a sadistic way.Can just see KK and JJ sitting by a table laughing at us !!

I don’t believe that a sucessful business like Disney or KK & JJ are all trying to make fans mad and have a laugh.

I can only speak for myself but I’m not looking for vast amounts of info/spoilers. I think a lot of the fans just wanted a bit of reassurance and as far as I’m concerned we got that with yesterday’s rumors.

With a franchise as widely known as Star Wars, anticipation is the best promotional tactic. They have a trained team of professionals working on the marketing campaign for the new series and films. They know how many people worldwide are shitting in their cereal over new information and they’re using it to their advantage.

“We told them this secret nonsence wont work with star wars fans but do they listen noooo “

by posting things like this you’re contributing to exactly what you’re claiming to be against. Word-of-mouth is the most effective means of spreading news these days and the more it’s left up to the fans, the more over-exaggerated the rumors become. That’s exactly what they want so that none of us will know exactly what to expect when we see the ST/Rebels.

Think about it; if you had known that Vader was Luke’s father before you saw Empire, would you have had the same reaction to that plot point?

I did know, and I’ve been allergic to spoilers ever since.

It’s funny how fans knew about that “I am your father” thing, but Harrison Ford got all upset over not being told!

I think that those tweets are about the actual stupid rumors. Obi-wan’s kids. Darth Vader resurrected… Then again, this site is the ONLY site to actually host rumors about the EU, and not just the films, and those guys run the EU…

I enjoy the rumors, it gives us interesting news bits even if they don’t end up being true, i mean its better then no news

Okay, simply for discussion, what do you think are the dumbest rumors you’ve heard so far?

    • January 31, 2014 at 9:08 pm

Darth Krayt being included, the return of Sidious and therefore carrying over plot points from Dark Empire, None of the OT characters being involved, the Yuuzahn Vong being the new threat.

Oh yea, so Obi-wan’s at a bar on Tatooine one night when he picks up a nice girl who’s visiting from another planet looking for some action.

Yeah the Obi wan rumor was pretty bad. I think the worst thing for me is there might not be any lando. them not confirming the actors is making it tough to figure out if they are going to bring him and wedge back. no love for rouge squadron lol

For me, the dumbest rumor has been that Dark Horse was going to increase it’s involvement with Star Wars. Those other rumors, could be corrupted versions of the truth, like that game where everybody whispers to the person next to them.

Not surprised at the spin off delay , maybe they can get out in may 17 and ep8 may 18 , also I for one love the rumours keep it up love this site .

I’m still in denial about Ep VII even being real any more. Until we see SOMETHING, I’m in denial. Even JJ said we should hear some news soon but alas others nothing as usual. I am calling your bluff, Mr. Abrams. Release a title or an actual human cast member and hen the faithfully might believe this movie is actually happening.

    • February 1, 2014 at 4:18 am
      Permalink

If they told us everything, we’d be waiting ~2 years in suspense, and start constructing our own version of the movie, and then it would be different from our assumptions…

    • February 3, 2014 at 9:07 pm
      Permalink

it is all dependent on the definition of “soon”… to you it may be “tomorrow” to JJ and company, “soon” perhaps within the next 3 months. This movie is a marathon, not a sprint. We will get what we are looking for in due time. I am anxious about an update or 2, but I do NOT want a lot of info about plot lines or story. I would be happy with a couple casting confirmations and then an eventual title.

Patience can be difficult but we have no choice in this. Info will come when it comes

Well they are just rumors, but I do thank you for posting all of them. Your site is the most informative right now. It is a very good place to talk talk to other star wars fans about the future of this awesome franchise. I really do thank you Viral even if a source turns out to be bogus you still listed it as a rumor not fact. So let us fine Imperial officers and rebels, scoundrels and bounty hunters, droids and jedi, sith and Storm troopers, continue to have these fun discussions. I really can’t wait till I get to see Episode VII

Yeah, I find a rumor coming from some anonymous commenter going here, instead of say, a trade magazine that will pay them for it, or a more established Star Wars site that an insider would be familiar with, sketchy. But it doesn’t hurt anyone. People have been so wound up about this movie, that entire fan-scripts have been written.

we want something new every day don´t we??? 😀 & big thanks to @viral hide for providing this, . -It doesn´t matter if it´s just rumours & speculations, it keeps us occupied discussing the one thing we love most: STAR WARS!! 🙂 so keep the rumours & specualtions coming how farfetched they might be.

I’d love to see them get Denis Lawson back for a Wedge cameo. Little touches like that would really go a long way to connecting it up to the OT in a natural and satisfying way.

I can understand those guys frustrations about their twitter being bombarded with things they are under hush orders about. I just hope they can understand, how not knowing what is going on with the EU, is extremely frustrating for the people who have invested hundreds or thousands of dollars and hours into it. I mean, are we never going to get a press release about the EU, because the media only care about the film? What about Wookieepedia editors?

  • February 1, 2014 at 4:17 pm

Calling a rumor dumb isn’t calling the fans who believe them dumb. its normal for people to formulate “dumb beliefs” when they are kept in the dark. Calling the Rumors out as stupid doesn’t mean he thinks the fans are stupid. Take a chill pill. Seriously, a lot of problems in the world would go away if people didn’t get offended at the drop of a hat.

I’m not going to argue with you. I don’t feel offended at all. I just think Hidalgo’s comment was not very professional. And the fans really suffered a lot around the lack of any news about the new movies. They deserve better.

i am not going to argue either, i think it is a very delicate balance for the filmmakers keeping a secret/keeping the fans satisfied. If i where working with the the new movies/tv show i would want to tell the fans EVERYTHING & NOTHING!!! 😀 it must be agonising to know how great something will be & not be able to talk about it… i think they suffer as much as we do (in a good way) we want to know something, but if we know to much, then it will not be as much of surprise (wich movies is all about) it´s like the FORCE, you need to have balance…. 😀 (& faith) 🙂
