UPDATE! Rumor: Saoirse Ronan Had Read for the Lead Role in Episode 7? More on Benedict Cumberbacth, Ewan McGregor and New Mexico.

female cast

Plenty of new rumors today. According to the latest reports Saoirse Ronan has been considered for a role in Episode 7. Also there’s a new development with Cumberbatch. Now the rumors are that not only he has been confirmed to play in Episode 7 but also he will be part of the whole trilogy. Read more after the jump about why Ewan McGregor doesn’t think he will be in the new movies and is it possible Episode 7 to feature a female villain…

Saoirse Ronan

According to Latino Review‘s sources actress Saoirse Ronan went in to read for an unknown part in Star Wars: Episode7. Later they suggested that it’s possible that she went in for the Solo daughter.
Also according to the same source there will be a female villain part in Episode 7. It is unknown if Saoirse has read for that one but considering her appearance it’s more likely for her to play someone from the good guys.

Saoirse has been rumored among the fans from some time now as a possible cast addition. Especially after the female lead rumors. She recently passed on the role of The Scarlet Witch, in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, so this all kinda makes sense.

Here is Bleeding Cool‘s output on the story:

I can reconfirm that Saoirse Ronan has had a meeting and read for one of the lead roles – to the best of my knowledge, the lead role – in Star Wars Episode VII.
She’s likely to be some way from being cast, as yet, and there are many other actresses who could very easily take the part, including more names that you’d know just as well, but Ronan’s very talented, has a real fanbase and seems to fit the bill perfectly.
Star Wars Episode VII‘s sets are being built, right now, at Pinewood. I don’t believe the stories about sets already being finished – I’ve learned quite assuredly that there hasn’t been time – but soon enough, some will be ready and then, in the New Year, cameras will start rolling…

benedict cumberbatch

In another report from Latino Review Benedict Cumberbatch is not only certain to appear in Episode 7 but in all three Star Wars films! Also they reveal how big will be his part in Episode 7:

It’s all a smoke screen. Folks, remember when Cumberbatch denied being Khan for over a year? Same situation here. At least give us the benefit of the doubt hence why we are bringing this up. Point is, he lied before and he can lie again. Google it. One more time because it is worth repeating, Benedict Cumberbatch will be in the upcoming Star Wars movies. I don’t care if he denies it till opening day. We were right before about him playing Khan, and we will be right again on this one. Technically, his part in Episode VII is very small but the role is much bigger in Episode VIII and Episode IX.

new mexico

Now some more info on the New Mexico rumor from yesterday. According to Latino Review’s source, the place where they will film in New Mexico is The City of Crosses, Las Cruces. Very little will be shot in Las Cruces along with Los Angeles and 90% will be done in London when filming gets underway in 2014.

obi wan

Ewan McGregor on several occasions has made it clear that if they want him for the new movies he will be glad to come back as Obi-Wan once again.
Now the actor has expressed concerns that the director may be after someone who looks more like Alec Guinness, who played the character in the Original Trilogy. McGregor said to The Daily Express:

‘The problem is that I played the young Obi Wan and they are going to be looking for an old Obi Wan and that’s Alec Guinness’s territory.I’m waiting for that call but I think they’re more likely to want an Alec lookalike than me.’

force ghosts

This statement directly contradicts with the previous Latino Review’s report of Ewan returning for Episode 7 as a force ghost.

So to sum things up – Latino Review revealed another casting rumor and possible place of filming. Also they debunked one of their own casting reports about Cumberbatch and another story was debunked by a third party source.

Latino Review has a pretty solid record for scoring Marvel scoops and their Star Wars credibility is still to be determined.
Still we have to keep in mind that even if a rumor turns out to be false, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it was never discussed and considered…

They could quite easily bring back McGregor to play an older Force ghost Kenobi. They just need to use CG/makeup to age him. I think it’s a definite possibility.

Also, as these movies are sure to follow the Bluray SE versions of the OT, they could bring back Hayden Christensen to play the Anakin Force ghost.

Add to that a puppet Force ghost Yoda, and you have the Force ghost Jedi Council.

Could use cgi but have heard this is to be more character based and less cgi. Besides obi wan does not come back in the eu.

  • September 19, 2013 at 10:37 am

They could replace the Alec Guinness force ghost in the original trilogy with Ewan’s force ghost and vualla he can be the Obi-wan force ghost in the new trilogy!

    • September 19, 2013 at 11:17 am

True. Although, the likelihood of this happening now that George Lucas is no longer in control is slim. I don’t think Disney are stupid enough to risk angering fans with any more revisions to the OT.

    • September 19, 2013 at 4:17 pm

      Excuse me?

Did you honestly say that “Disney [isn’t] stupid enough to risk angering fans…” ???

You mean after the stunts they pulled at D23 and months and months of giving us the silent treatment? And canceling Lucasarts and upcoming video games?

If you think George Lucas is bad, he is going to look like a frugal penny-pincher compared to what Disney is about to unleash on us.

    • September 19, 2013 at 4:45 pm

stop criticizing disney. They own star wars now so they are part of star wars. And disney do great job on marvel. I think silent treatment is not because disney(i think they love buzz) but because creative team. And if is true that they develope all trilogy not one movie is more than normal to take time.

    • September 19, 2013 at 7:50 pm

Star Wars video games was never cancelled. EA has a contract for any Star Wars video games. The video games for Star Wars are not cancelled.

    • September 20, 2013 at 12:39 pm

((WRONG))…every video game that was in production before Disney got lucasfilm that were not part of EA gaming were cancelled. there will be new games…but the ones that were being made before the transistion were shit canned. Including Star wars 1313. get your facts straight boy

  • September 19, 2013 at 12:28 pm

YES. What i want(and think all star wars fans want) is more sith lords like darth vader/darth maul(they are fan favorite of all time)! And female sith lord sound outstanding cool!!! I hope they create one as darth malgus(really like his face costume etc) and may be one new hot sith with mask helm etc. Like raven. And cool jedi too.

    I hope for more news

    • September 19, 2013 at 2:10 pm

“(and think all star wars fans want)” Not one bit. If you are a star wars fan then you want the humour, great story, the mythology, war, evil and good, and the magic that made up star wars. Sith and Jedi, especially in the originals, were just meant to represent the ultimate good and evil over everything, that was all. Ultimately the story is is about the republic, empire, rebels. The sith and the jedi are not supposed to be “outstanding cool!!!”.. Saying you think it’s “cool” and that you want a “cool” bunch of sith and jedi just shows you don’t appreciate storytelling, but simply aesthetics and action. It just annoys me so much because people like JJ like to look through comments on sites to see peoples feedback to rumours, and then what if they come across comments like these and just result into making movies with pointless action and boring mind numbing shlock to entertain people who can’t appreciate a good story but only like “cool stuff”

    • September 19, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Well avatar and avengers were cool even oustanding cool and peple love them and watch them. Most oscar movies are about good stories and nobody watch them. People has different taste but i think all peple want to be entertain FIRST! And star wars is greatest sci fi franchise of all time. But yea i want great story AND i KNOW that Michael Arndt will write best sci fi script, humour is huge part of entertaining and as for the mythology JJ Abrams is master of mythology(that is why critic name LOST best sci fi drama series of all time)the magic will be toughest one as chalenge. Depends all people from chemistry, cast and all people that work with heart and soul for star wars! I will add and best music composer of all time john williams to all that. But yea batles and fights are what make one sci fi movie great. They are as we europeans saying icing on the cake.

I am HUGE star wars fan and i am waiting not only all new trilogy but i want to see new novels new star wars tv series etc. I am sure Disney will do the same with Star Wars as Marvel! They already work on sevons Marvel tv show. I think Abrams can create great star wars tv shows and i really want to see Michael Arndt as showrunner on star wars tv series. And Lawrence Kasdan too.

    • September 19, 2013 at 6:58 pm

“Well avatar and avengers were cool even oustanding cool and peple love them and watch them.” Avatar was patheticly awful, people only went to see it because people compared it to Titanic as it was all James Cameron, and because of the 3D and the hype. Who cares that people watch them. doesn’t mean it’s good. The Avengers was “cool” yes, and I enjoyed it, but it’s hardly an iconic masterpiece like star wars is it. This is what I’m talking about. Star Wars needs to be brilliant, not “cool”.
Also, “Most oscar movies are about good stories and nobody watch them.” is the most pathetic and ridiculously hilarious statement I have heard in a long time. What do you mean “nobody watch them”. And who cares if that was the case anyway, I’d rather a decent and complicated film to enjoy that people are incapable of being able to understand, then boring shlock aimed to impress everyone because the general audience is too stupid to understand a decent story.

    • September 19, 2013 at 7:53 pm

If you are a star wars fan then you want the humour, great story, the mythology, war, evil and good, and the magic that made up star wars.
I agreed with Darth Malgus. The war between Sith and Jedi is amazing. Does that mean Im not a true star wars fan?? Who are you to tell me or anyone for that matter if they are or not a true star wars fan. That is unfair and you clearly do not understand the fact that fans of a franchise can want and like different thing.

    • September 20, 2013 at 12:20 am

Thanks for support. I think some people need to stop watching films or start making films and guess what only viewer will be their parent or family member. Because mass audience is too stupid to understand a decent story. Yea if i get penny when i hear that for all films/tv shows that nobody watch and are cancel…….i will be a millioner.

Becasue AVATAR gross almost 3 BILLION $! Yea mass people are so stupid.

      • November 16, 2014 at 4:53 am

“Avatar” and “The Avengers” are garbage films and people are generally stupid idiots with no taste. People eat up the slop that is spoon fed to them and all real cinema is tossed out the window in favor of screen junk food. Saying that, the leaked images do look better than I, II and III.

    • September 20, 2013 at 2:33 am

Why is it that some people don’t understand that a movie can have both a good and deep story AND have a cool hero, a cool villain and a cool battle/war?
Lucas already did that in the second trilogy.

Just because someone wants a cool cahracter doesn’t mean the quality of the story has to be sacrificed.

And besides some people are fan of a franchise because of the deep quality of the story, some for the raw action scenes, some for the futuristic and fictional science of it, and some for a combination of reasons. Just because someone does not share you EXACT views on a franchise does not mean they are not true fans, to state so jsut shows your narrowminded view of thinking.

    • September 20, 2013 at 7:51 am

      GREAT OPINION. Thanks.

    • September 20, 2013 at 8:31 pm

Are you an idiot? I was just presuming he is a fan and favouring specific things like most people, I never said he is or isn’t a fan.. I’m saying it’s strange he demanded, out of everything, more sith lords. He could have chosen, like I said, more humour, story, mythology, war, evil and good, and magic, yet he chose sith lords.. Then he said “(and think all star wars fans want)”. My point is I would find it ridiculous that he presumes fans want quantity of a specific thing like sith lords, rather than, more importantly, the quality of the overall film.

  • September 19, 2013 at 1:54 pm

“they are going to be looking for an old Obi Wan and that’s Alec Guinness’s territory” So does this mean he’s been told that they ARE going to be looking for that, or is that just Ewan PRESUMING they are.. Questions, questions, questions. If Ewan isn’t back playing him, then I don’t want obi-wan back at all. Re-casting would just be too unrealistic continuity wise. Just give Ewan a little bit of prosthetics, make his hair the same, and give him the same clothes, and he’ll be more than fine to play obi-wan. Presuming he would only be doing dialogue scenes like in Empire and Jedi, there’s no reason he would be unable to do it. But my worst fears are that they will bring Vader/Hayden Christensen back, since he came back as a force ghost at the end of return of the jedi, there is unfortunately a chance he will be back again for more.. I would enjoy a very quick 1 or 2 minute scene with him or something, but that’s it I’m afraid.

    • September 19, 2013 at 2:13 pm

      ^ Agreed.

  • September 19, 2013 at 2:24 pm

It’s weird. I loved her in the Host. Then I felt it was more of the same in Byzantium. I’d hope she could pull off more range in Star Wars. I know a lot of people maybe didn’t see those two movies but she’s already creeping in as an all to “familiar” face. Still like her though…

As for Obi… just move on. Don’t even feature him. Luke is the old master now. It’d be a little creepy to think Ben is STILL hanging around after all this time.

I really hope they don’t crowbar in past references and characters for some rent-a-nostalgia. Make a stand alone great story. If it happens to feature elements of the past? Great! If it doesn’t… leave it out.

  • September 19, 2013 at 4:04 pm

As i understand most of the actors will be part in all 3 movies but will they be part of future star wars tv series??? And what about stand alone films?

I am really interested in that how new star wars main leads will grow in episodes 7 8 and 9. And i think we can see at least 3 star wars tv series from star wars universe. Star Wars Universe > Marvel > DC!!! Period.

  • September 19, 2013 at 4:41 pm

We should wait and see. For now we should support our new star wars team like true die-hard fans. I still hope for REAL star wars news sooner than later. We really need news.

I don’t like Saoirse Ronan but i will support her if she is truly cast in Star wars.

    • September 20, 2013 at 7:35 pm

good point! LET´S SUPPORT the new star wars crew & let them do their thing , afterall, Lucas already wrote outlines for the sequel trilogies back in the 70s/80´s all part of the overall plan for the entire saga, so let´s sit back & let them take that story & make something of it before we start complaining about something we can´t do anything about anyway,,, & all the EU-fans needs to stop DEMANDING making those stories into films, it is NOT going to happen, the storyline for episode 7-9 was made loooong before the Expanded Universe started…

I am totally sure it is going to be great movies 🙂 🙂 🙂

  • September 19, 2013 at 6:16 pm

sorry but latino review until now name so many young actress all rising stars/actress so i am not sure in that info.

  • September 19, 2013 at 6:29 pm

    I prefer:
    1 elle fanning
    2 hailee steinfeld
    3 abigail breslin

And Breslin already win OSCAR award or she was nominated not sure. These 3 has fanbase all over the world.

    • September 19, 2013 at 7:08 pm

I could just about get on board with Abigail Breslin because she’s such a good actress, but they’re all far too young for a lead. You’re casting basing on the portayer rather than the portayal. Completely arrogant thing to do. And who cares, fanbases and oscars mean nothing compared to someone who simply nails auditions and fits the role perfectly. Take Harrison Ford, did he have an oscar when he was cast as Han Solo? No. Does he even have an Oscar now? Nope. But was he chosen perfectly to play Han Solo? Yes. And look at the others. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, they didn’t exactly have giant fanbases, and like Harrison Ford didn’t have and still don’t have oscar wins, but I wouldn’t choose any other person to play the characters they did. Are their better actors out their with bigger fanbases? Yes. But that’s not what you look for in an actor, it’s their ability to play a certain character.

    • September 19, 2013 at 7:29 pm

simply the best opinion so far. Thanks you my friend. Only one think write with some name please. Some star wars name will be great. Oscars and awards don’t make bets movies. As you said “Nails auditions and fits the role perfectly” is what count.

  • September 19, 2013 at 10:05 pm

Please, please don’t let this horrible ham Cumberbatch ruin the new Star Wars movies…

  • September 19, 2013 at 11:04 pm

The next Star War’s movie is doomed. I will go see it, but not for entertainment but as an autopsy to see what went wrong.

    • September 20, 2013 at 12:13 am

You are NOT star wars fan if you think that star wars is doomed. Star wars is greatest sci fi franchaise OF ALL TIME IN HISTORY so can’t be doomed. You are pathetic hater! And haters are doomed.

    • September 20, 2013 at 1:42 am

Ha ha ha,”You are Not star wars fan”. You put your foot in your mouth on that one “Malgus” you know nothing about me other than my pessimistic outlook on the new Star War’s movie’s . “You” are one of the worst kind of Star War’s fan, Oh you don’t like or have the same outlook or opinion as me you’re a “pathetic hater” you’re a sad ignorant person, name calling work’s both way’s. By the way work on your english.

    • September 20, 2013 at 7:18 am

There’s nothing quite like judging a movie even before it has been filmed!

    • September 20, 2013 at 7:55 pm

      this is my reply on a comment just a few steps up & it fits in perfectly here also;

PS. there is nothing more STUPID than judging a movie that has not been made yet, as the last replier said…

    • September 22, 2013 at 12:01 am

It’s the prequels that have people justifiably worried. I have hope in the new movies simply because it’s in new hands.

At the very least it should be a cohesive story that doesn’t contradict itself. That right there should put it ahead of the prequels.

  • September 20, 2013 at 1:09 am

This is interesting. take the following:

Lucas says the expanded Universe is not canon

Disney will in no way ever represent the Yuuzhan Vong properly, they couldn’t, it’s not what that company is.

It’s obvious they’re interested in continuing the Sith / Jedi story. That’s easier for a younger audience to understand.

What they can do, transplant the entire Darth Bane rule of two storyline and change names to suit them. Cumberbatch easily fits the stature of Darth Bane (or Darth Whatever). Ronan could easily be Bane’s apprentice Zannah (or whatever name).

so now that I’ve blown up the expanded universe, let’s take it a bit further.

Very few Jedi left, very few Sith are left. Why not have a Bane on the power level of Skywalker and a Zannah to take on Jaina Solo?

maybe I’m taking the wrong tack, but from the casting rumors, this seems to make the most sense to me.

  • September 23, 2013 at 1:26 am

    Suggestion for the website:

When you put the red alert “update” on some stories, it might also be a good idea to put the day and time the update was made.

    Just a suggestion…

  • September 23, 2013 at 4:41 am

    Saoirse would be great !
I hope they still release 1313 if the time is right
