The Dreamer, The Rebel: Happy 73rd Birthday George Lucas!
Happy Birthday George Lucas! The maker turns 73 today. If it were not for him there would be a galaxy sized void in our hearts and souls, in more ways than we could possibly imagine…
The reason this website exists, the reason we all passionately talk about Star Wars, the reason we all became bold and rebellious, limitless dreamers, George Lucas turns 73 today!
George Lucas was a dreamer with a limitless imagination. He saw the world in a dimension that we can only dream of. For us having a dog is a wonderful companion, friend, and pet, but for George, having a dog lead to the name of an adventure seeking archaeologist, and created a smuggler’s faithful co-pilot. Thanks to his incredible imagination and the eventual realization of his dream, a door opened up inside all of us that we never knew existed. The moment we all saw Star Wars we became dreamers. Our bed sheets became capes and broomsticks became lightsabers.
Lucas was a risk taker. He was willing to let Star Wars perish if he was unable to make his movies the way he wanted to. He never bent for studio executives or wavered in his drive to make his vision a reality. Because of this he was a Hollywood outsider, he was a rebel…and the rebellion won.
I remember being five years old and watching The Empire Strikes Back for the first time with my Dad. I pointed at Luke Skywalker and asked, “Dad, who is that?” My Dad simply replied, “That’s Luke Skywalker, he’s the good guy.” That moment always stuck with me, it made me a dreamer.
George Lucas’ limitless imagination and unbreakable vision gave us a never ending multi-generational bond. He gave us Star Wars, but more than that, he taught us to be bold, stay true, and never stop dreaming.
On behalf of the entire staff at Star Wars News Net, happy birthday, and thank you George.

Without him we’d all be Star Trek fans 😀
Oh God, that’s a scary thought.
Not really. Star Trek is great. (And you can be both)
And who knows, without Trek there may have never been Wars.
Doubtful…. https://vimeo.com/7314653
I get that the Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate carries on mostly out of a spirit of fun, but I don’t understand those who actually get passionate about it. Star Wars and Star Trek are vastly different properties; in many ways, they’re barely in the same genre. I greatly enjoy both.
Nah, Star Trek is cool too, shame it doesn’t have a really good movies though. Latest one was pretty boring.
Happy birthday George and thank you! Happy Mother’s Day too to all the rebel moms
Loved or hated, he has done things his way, and in the process changed popular culture around the world, and that’s to be commended.
Thank the maker. Happy Birthday George!
Happy Birthday George! Without him SW wont even exist
i leave here a nice fan film to watch

really enjoyed watching this…nice!!!
I said it before and I’ll say it again, The smartest thing he ever did was retire when it stopped being fun for him and he lost his passion for it. I REALLY wish his contemporaries like Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Steven Speilburg, John Williams, etc. would follow in his suit before they squander any more of their creative legacy with subpar projects.
I think Lucas understood this back in the beginning though hence the John Milner character which was sort of a 70’s commentary on all the Hollywood types that refuse to leave the party no matter how sad their careers have become over the decades.
James Cameron still has great potential. Sure, Avatar wasn’t the best movie ever made, but it was very ambitious and innovative. I’ve read that he wanted to make an Akira adaptaion, which I’d really watch. It’s a shame that he’ll be wasting his time and talent on 4 (!) Avatar sequels. I mean, I’d undertand a trilogy, but a fckin Quintology? Thats a bit of stretch to say the least.
Same for Scott. He still makes good movies (like The Martian), but now he’ll be wasting his time on milking the Alien franchise…
I agree about Spielberg, although I’m curious about Ready Player One.
John Williams, lol. Did you really hate TFA’s score that much? He’s made some of his best soundtracks on Harry Potter, in his 70s. I think with proper direction and enough time given he still has great potential. I mean would you ever ask Mozart or Beethoven to stop working? I very certainly wouldn’t…
Ridley Scott made The Martian in 2015 and it was awesome. James Cameron’s last film was the highest grossing movie of all time.
You should really get better opinions. And on someone’s birthday, just say nice things.
please dont say it again
Live long George Lucas!! Thank you!! God bless!!
Happy Birthday indeed!
Brightened up my childhood in the late 70’s to late 80’s and his films still fill me with joy today, especially the under-appreciated THX-1138, a true classic if you ask me.
I miss his creative work and hope he gets back to it. Small films or short films, either would be great.
And many, many more!
Happy Birthday to an amazing guy!!! Wish him the very best!!! None of here would have anything to discuss without him!
Thank you George ! You created one of my favorite stories and your imagination and passion are a huge inspiration. Im sad that some of the fans have frozen your creations and sealed them up like unopened toys. I would have loved to see your continuing vision of starwars and not consensus of what disney thinks fans want to see.
Aww, you started off so good and then you ended in a ditch. Better luck next time!
Heehee I love trolls
Well, self-love is a good thing.
Then you must love yourself.
Release the fucking GOUT already.
And also Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Mister Lucas, and thank you for creating Star Wars. You’ve given great joy to generations of people.
