Lucasfilm Reveals Three New Lego ‘Star Wars’ Short Films

Lucasfilm has continued their tradition of releasing seasonal-themed Lego Star Wars short films at various points of the year, with three new videos available to watch on YouTube. As you might expect, these new videos are all Christmas-themed.

Each video is only 2-3 minutes in length, one focusing on Chewbacca and the Rebels on Yavin 4, another showcasing Yoda and the cast from Young Jedi Adventures, and another checking in with fan favorite Lego Star Wars characters Palpatine and Darth Vader.

“Twas the Night Before Life Day”

The final short listed on StarWars.com is probably the most entertaining, and the only one with any dialogue. Yoda narrates a story about how R2-D2 ruined Life Day for Emperor Palpatine, who demands that Darth Vader hand over his Life Day present: a “Galaxy’s Best Emperor” mug. R2 is chased throughout the Death Star and Palpatine is typically hilarious, speaking in rhyme throughout the short.

Chewie’s Holiday Cheer Up

This short is set on Yavin 4 shortly after the events of A New Hope, as Chewbacca takes out his Life Day orb and starts to miss his family back on Kashyyyk. Han notices that his best friend is feeling a little sad and organizes a big surprise for the Wookiee with the help of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2 and the other rebels. There’s no dialogue in this one, but it’s a touching turn of events by the end.

Tenoo Treasures

Fans of Young Jedi Adventures will probably enjoy this one, as the young padawans Kai and Lys do some Jedi training with Master Yoda. Neither character looks quite as young as they do on the Disney Plus series and there’s no dialogue to help kids recognize them via their voices, but they should still be able to spot the characters in their garb. Sadly there’s no Lego version of Nubs, but the two young padawans are taught a relatable lesson in patience by Yoda at the end.

It’s a shame that we don’t get any full Lego Star Wars specials anymore, but these shorts are better than nothing. Adults will probably appreciate “Twas the Night Before Life Day” the most, but children should still enjoy the other two videos.
