New ‘Star Wars: Revelations’ Special Previews 2024 Comics With Thrawn, Mace Windu, and More

2023 has gone by kind of quick. Before we know it, the new year will be here. Marvel is setting the groundwork for Star Wars comics with a brand new Star Wars: Revelations one-shot special that will give readers hints about what to expect in 2024. The issue will be available this December.

Similar to last year’s one-shot of the same name, 2023’s edition of Revelations will feature various short tales that set the stage for Marvel’s Star Wars line in the coming year. The creator lineup includes Marc Guggenheim, Charles Soule, Greg Pak, Marc Bernardin, Alyssa Wong, Ethan Sacks, and Cavan Scott, with Salvador Larroca, Will Sliney, Marika Cresta, Ibraim Roberson, and more handling art duties.

Featured characters on the cover include the High Republic’s Keeve Trennis, Luke Skywalker, Leia, Vader, Jabba the Hutt, Lando, and some other curious inclusions. Among them are Mace Windu and Grand Admiral Thrawn who look primed to once more grace the pages of Star Wars comics.

Last year’s Revelations one-shot covered just what is happening in the current ongoing stories of Star Wars, Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra, and Bounty Hunters. Many comic readers, like myself, assume 2024 will be the final chapters of those series once the Dark Droids crossover wraps up in December. Marvel is due for a relaunch next year, which means there is likely to be a void between series finales and any subsequent new beginnings.

Could that be filled by a certain Chiss? Thrawn’s imminent live-action debut in Ahsoka leaves the character ripe for the picking in future content across books, comics, and more. There’s plenty of room for stories, between more adaptations of Timothy Zahn’s novels and original stories – perhaps even set during his time away in another galaxy.

Keeve Trennis’ mention means this Revelations special will include the High Republic. Phase 3 of Lucasfilm’s publishing initiative begins in November and Cavan Scott will return with The High Republic. Any little breadcrumb is precious right now for readers, not helped by Dark Horse’s formal announcement of The High Republic Adventures #1 and the apparent year-long disappearance of many fan-favorite characters.

If you’re as engrained in Star Wars comics as we are, what are looking forward to finding out about? Or if you’ve fallen off, what would bring you back? Let us know in the comments below!

Star Wars: Revelations (2023) #1 will be available on December 20 and will be up for pre-order at your local comic book shop soon.
