‘Behind the Magic’: ILM Showcases Visual Effects of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Following Emmy Nomination
Industrial Light & Magic has released a short video showcasing the incredible visual effects used to bring season 3 of The Mandalorian to life. The “Behind the Magic” video follows The Mandalorian‘s Emmy nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, one of nine Emmy nominations the series has received.
It stylishly depicts the use of blue screens during production all the way to the computer-generated imagery developed in post-production. The video also demonstrates the utilization of the Volume, the LED immersive soundstage heavily relied upon in the creation of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.
Diving into some of the most impressive shots from the season, from the familiar futuristic cityscape of Coruscant to the imposing mines of Mandalore serves as a pleasant promo for the season’s visuals, which is definitely one of its significant highlights.

Besides its visual effects nom, The Mandalorian season 3 is also in the running for Outstanding Cinematography (Chapter 20), Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Outstanding Sound Editing and Mixing, Costume Design, and Hairstyle, among other categories. The 75th Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on January 15, 2024, after it was delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.
