‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ Will Have Fast Travel and Rideable Creatures

Star Wars gamers looking forward to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor can rejoice — the video game sequel will have fast travel according to Games Radar, allowing players to quickly travel around the map on each planet in moments just by selecting a destination on the map.

It was a key feature that was surprisingly missing from Fallen Order, meaning that it took a long time to travel from one side of the map to the other. It was one of the few criticisms that players had of the game.

Another positive update is that Cal Kestis will now be able to ride various creatures on each planet, making world traversal even quicker than it was in Fallen Order in multiple aspects. This was teased in the gameplay trailer, but it’s nice to have it confirmed.

It might also suggest that Cal will be more in touch with nature in Survivor, as a Jedi Knight should be. Another criticism of the previous game was the sheer amount of wildlife that the player was forced to kill, and some have noted the lack of enemy creatures in gameplay trailers for Survivor.

This news comes straight from Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, who offers an interesting bit of insight into the rideable creatures:

We will feature both fast travel and rideable creatures to help players quickly get from point A to B, and back to A. The fast-travel is point to point, and the rideable creatures offer a way to quickly negotiate between points and explore what is in between.

On the surface this seems obvious, but considering that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still going to feature metroidvania-style exploration — which in Fallen Order meant unlocking Force powers to gain access to different areas — perhaps this means that along with acquiring new gadgets to explore different areas, maybe the player will be able to unlock different mountable creatures to access new locations.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will now be released on April 28, 2023, after developer Respawn Entertainment announced a short delay in order to get the game as polished as possible before release.
