Updated: ‘Ahsoka’ and ‘Skeleton Crew’ First Glimpse of Footage Released as Part of 2023 Disney Plus Preview

A new Disney Plus commercial previewing the content for 2023 included the first public footage of the upcoming Ahsoka series. While it’s no longer than two seconds, it serves as a reminder that the series, which stars Rosario Dawson as the title character, is no more than a few months away from release. The Mandalorian season 3 also got some love, though it was mostly reused footage from the already-released teaser trailer; The Bad Batch can be seen for a split second near the end too. Also, we got our first look at Jude Law in Skeleton Crew in a Facebook ad.

A minute-long teaser for the series was previewed for Star Wars Celebration attendees back in May, and included this shot. However, this is the first time the public has seen, first-hand, anything from the new series. Said teaser also hinted at Hera Syndulla being part of the show — in fact, during the “Mando+” panel where it was showed, Dave Filoni strongly hinted at the entire Ghost crew reuniting in the live-action series.

We know that Natasha Liu Bordizzo is playing Sabine Wren, and The Inspection‘s Eman Esfandi has been reportedly cast as Ezra Bridger, who will likely be the McGuffin of the series. Chopper also made an appearance at the panel, essentially confirming his involvement in the plot. No casting details have been provided for Hera or Zeb, or even if the latter will appear.

Ahsoka

Lucasfilm is likely waiting for The Mandalorian season 3 to be released to start promoting Ahsoka right after. The Pedro Pascal-led series will start streaming on the platform on March 1st, a few weeks ahead of Star Wars Celebration in London. Lucasfilm will likely be bringing the big guns to the U.K. in April, where the marketing campaign for Ahsoka will probably begin. Interestingly enough, Skeleton Crew was nowhere to be found in this short ad, even though the company has already confirmed it will air in 2023. However, we also know that Marvel’s Ironheart is coming next fall, and that wasn’t shown either — likely, the streamer only wanted footage from shows in the first half(-ish) of the year.

No release date has been set for Ahsoka, but we are expecting it at some point during next summer. Production has wrapped after around six months of filming, from May through the end of October/beginning of November.

UPDATE:

In another Disney Plus ad that is now available on the Facebook Ad Library, we got our first look at Jude Law in Skeleton Crew, the upcoming live-action series co-created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. Check it out below:

Little is known about the series so far, besides that it will revolve around a group of kids who get lost in wild space. It’s been described as having an Amblin-esque tone, with Goonies or Stranger Things being thrown around as points of reference. Jude Law will play the male lead. For now, only two out of the four kids’ names have transpired — Kyriana Kratter and Ravi Cabot-Conyers. More details will surely be provided in the next few months.

Production has either wrapped already or is about to for the new series that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are executive producing. A late 2023 release date is to be expected.
