Review: Star Wars Insider Presents Volume Two of ‘The Mandalorian Collector’s Edition’

Star Wars Insider just dropped a delicious new work! Volume Two of The Mandalorian Collector’s Edition for season 2 is here! This ultimate deluxe edition delivers stunning artwork from chapters 13-16, featuring the intense battles, creatures both lovely and not so lovely, and worlds as seen in the hit series.

Fans of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his cute little companion Grogu will be thrilled to discover all that is within the pages. And for those fans of Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker, don’t worry. There’s plenty in this work for you too. Let’s dive into the fun, shall we?

Let’s begin with a look at some of this work with Mando and Grogu. The first section of the edition is all about these two. Grogu steals the show as always in these pages, but something I enjoy about this section is the look of Mando and several of his various weapons. There’s an image of him using his beskar vambrace flamethrower against one of the third-generation Dark Troopers. There’s also a delightful image of him wielding his beskar spear against Moff Gideon, who’s holding the Darksaber. Inspired images fill every page. My favorite of Mando and Grogu has to be one with Mando holding Grogu on his hip with the Darksaber ignited at his side. For now, however, be content with this look at the cutest little alien in the galaxy:

The latter half of The Mandalorian season 2 took us to never-before-seen worlds. You will see each of them in this valuable collector’s edition. You’ll launch to Tython, where we got our first look at a sacred seeing stone. Fun fact: this location is featured in Adam Christopher’s Shadow of the Sith novel, with none other than Luke Skywalker being the one to rest upon it. Tython also saw the triumphant return of Temuera Morrison as the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett. There are some spectacular views of the planet on display here.

Art from a few other new worlds is there as well. Planets such as Morak, where Mando took off his helmet to save Grogu; travel to the prison chop fields of Karthon, where Mayfeld was imprisoned. Lastly, the place I was most eager to see was Corvus. If you recall, Corvus is where we met live-action Ahsoka Tano for the first time. You’ll find a few great works of art featuring Corvus, including this one below:

It wouldn’t be Star Wars without some exciting ships and vehicles, now, would it? An entire section is just for that. From Boba Fett’s iconic Firespray gunship to the Razor Crest (RIP), Star Wars Insider delivers fresh and inspired looks at some of the best ships and vehicles from the series. It’s one of my favorite sections as I have always been a sucker for Star Wars ships.

In addition to ships, there are several great images of the Juggernaut transports featured in Chapter 15. If you recall, this was the vehicle where the epic hand-to-hand fight scene took place on Morak.

There are three sections dedicated to the return of iconic characters. The first is for Ahsoka Tano. Oh, the look on my face when she appeared on our screens for the first time in a live-action format must have been priceless. There are some breathtaking works of art in this section — thrilling pieces like Ahsoka deflecting enemy blaster fire, and images of her duel with the evil Magistrate are found throughout the pages. While action scenes are great, Ahsoka’s grace is also on display. From her comforting Grogu to simply admiring the world around her, you will get the full Ahsoka Tano experience.

Next is the return of Boba Fett along with Fennec Shand. Ming-Na is a favorite of mine, so I was excited to see her character is featured here. Boba and Fennec raced back onto the scene in Chapter 14. Within this section, receive a look at the fearsome bounty hunter inside his iconic ship, staring down his enemies and sitting on his new throne on Tatooine with Fennec by his side.

Last but surely not least, the character-centric sections feature the return of Luke Skywalker. Capturing the magic of that moment, the art in these pages takes you back to when you first watched the Jedi Master enter the television fray. Wielding his lightsaber in a blaze of green, the art pops out of the pages — the emotional return of Luke is absolutely felt. We also can’t forget about Artoo, right?

There are many other gems to be found in this Star Wars Insider! Moff Gideon and other remnants of the Empire are heavily featured, as well as other novelties from the series. For fans of The Mandalorian, this is a must-have. You will spend hours admiring the art from page to page. Volume Two of this Collector’s edition can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Forbidden Planet, and Waterstones.

Thank you to Star Wars Insider for this special look at what promises to be an exciting new addition to collectors’ shelves.
