Characters of ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ — Introducing the Path of the Open Hand

The official Star Wars YouTube channel has brought back the ‘Characters of The High Republic’ videos. On Friday, we met Jedi knight Zallah Macri. Now, we learn about the Path of the Open Hand, an intriguing new faction of Force-believers who don’t trust the use and manipulation of the Force.

These promotional videos dropped regularly last year, slowly introducing casual readers and Star Wars fans to many of the main players in the High Republic-set books and comics. Now, with Phase 2 of the massive publishing initiative kicking off, it seems like the perfect time to bring them back.

Check out the new video below:

The group lives humbly on the planet Dalna and is led by The Mother, who is aided by her Herald. According to them, the Jedi “are a threat to the natural order of things.” The Path believes that using the Force actively takes the Force away from somewhere else. So while the Jedi may be using the Force for good in one area, they are retroactively harming another part of nature. At least that’s what they claim when they’re introduced in Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland’s recently released young-adult novel Path of Deceit.

Phase 2 of The High Republic is set 150 years before the events of Phase 1, and aims to “get us acquainted with the new characters, ideologies, and settings” of a calmer period of this era. Stay tuned as we cover the new books and comics that will expand on this fascinating age of the Star Wars galaxy.
