I’m slowly warming up to the young Han Solo movie. Would I rather they do something else first? Yes, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until at least a trailer.

Which is exactly how everyone should have been like from the beginning.

It’s pointless to write stuff off before even seeing anything, just because you don’t think it’s a great idea, or you’d rather see something else. I mean if we got everything we wanted as what majority of the fans wanted the prequels would be erased, we’d have KoToR canonized again (Not against that), and the sequel trilogy would have been the story of The Dark Nest Trilogy or the Yuuzhan Vong invasion instead of what we got.

Fans scream well, if they actually would have cared they would have done this for the fans! Then if Lucasfilm had actually done that for the fans, the other half of the fans scream too much fan service!

It’s a scenario where they are doomed if they do, doomed if they don’t.

A good example is Anthony Ingruber…. All you see everywhere online are Ingruberites commenting “Ingruber or nothing!” Or “This guy looks way more like Han Solo!” or “Anthony Ingruber is the one we want, not this guy!”

I guarantee you, that if Chris Miller and Phil Lord and whoever else was involved with the casting had actually grabbed Anthony Ingruber because the internet told them so and they went ahead filming the movie with him. People would be so disappointed with the final result because I don’t believe Anthony could hack it for a full feature length film as an actor, sure he can do a decent impression and he looks like Harrison Ford quite a bit, but that’s not acting. I even used to be a Ingruberite myself, I hoped he would try out for the role and I hoped he would win it, but then I got to thinking it’s probably for the best that he didn’t get the role. The people in the film industry know better than anyone else on the internet what it takes to make these characters come to life. If they truly believe that Alden Ehrenreich after 4000+ auditions he is the best actor for the role, who are we to tell them otherwise. Anthony probably wouldn’t even have made it in the top 100.

Yep, you only have to read fan theories to realize most fans shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the creative process of making a movie.

It’s easier to write “OMG THIS IS STUPID I HATE IT STAR WARS SUCKS NOW! THANKS DISNEYJJKATHLEENKENNEDY” then to have thoughtful conversation about potential disappointments.

How I’ve felt all along. Am I 100% convinced it’s a great idea? No. But on the other hand could it be good with Lord & Miller and Kasdan on board… of course.

I actually think it’s a more compelling prospect than bringing Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan. I like Ewan, of course, but I don’t see there being enough story there between III and IV without stampeding all over the established timeline.

I still think there could be a Kenobi movie. And Ewan could still age a few more years and it would be fine. Maybe put him at the halfway point between old Kenobi and the younger in ROTS. I’ve thrown around my own ideas for showing Kenobi and Owen’s bitterness towards him and a flashback of Anakin building the new lightsaber “This one is built to last.” And remarking that he hoped to after the war leave the Jedi order and maybe have his own family and pass the saber down. (Which would cover “Your father wanted you to have this…”) Kenobi had an idea about Anakin’s relationship with Padme but kind of “Looked the other way.” There would be more to the story than this but these are a few points I’d love to see it hit upon. Also he would be referred to pretty much only as “Ben” The only way Luke learns that he is a Kenobi is that Owen lets it slip in a conversation. And that’s how Luke knows to say “I wonder if he means old Ben Kenobi.” in the garage in response to R2 saying he belongs to Obi-Wan Kenobi and the message from the Princess. Kenobi is only known as “Ben” to the the people who occasionally see him.

The Star Wars comics touch base with some of this too. They are actually really good.

Really though the only way they could do it, is to say it’s from the journal of Obi-Wan Kenobi and go into some of his history between Ep. 3 and 4. I mean that’s 19 years between when we see him drop off Luke to when we see him in Ep. 4 there is a lot of time to tell at least one decent story. Even if he has to go off world.

I feel like the fact they’ve allowed the new canon comics to go there makes it likely they’ve ruled out the idea of covering the same ground with a movie.

I thought so too. You never know though.

oh sure, never say never but I thought it was kind of final how the comics laid out that time period of Kenobi’s life. I’m pretty sure they don’t want to have to do another canon-purge!

I always tought the the Obi-Wan movie could be a “contained” Western-style story on Tatooine. Obi-Wan as the lone hero who maybe helps villagers or something. Just very little connections to what’s happening in thelarger Galaxy. You have to be careful with that time period, because so much is being done around that time (Rebels, Rogue One, Solo)…

Yeah I think if they were going to do it that’s the way to do it. It’s quite a bold departure, though. I know LFL want to try different things with anthology movies — and I love that idea — but whether they’ll go that far this soon I’m not sure.

I’m not trying to say this for the sake of being positive (or cautiously optimistic lol) but I think he genuinely looks like a younger Han Solo, at the very least with a bit of make-up and acting, Alden is going to do an amazing job. And that grin! I’m keen.

If anyone remembers I was one of those who would complain about this guy being Han. I watched Hail, Cesar! and, after carefully looking at him, I start to see some slight similarities with Ford, also that he’s indeed a good actor

From the editing of the sneak peek real, it seems as if Warwick Davis is playing Space Monkey.
