Indiana Jones 5 with Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg Is Coming on July 19, 2019!

Harrison-Ford

A few days ago Producer Frank Marshall teased a big announcement coming this week. Many fans were hoping for some positive news on the next Indiana Jones movie, and that’s exactly what they got…

From Disney:

Spielberg and Ford Reunite as Indiana Jones Returns to Theaters July 19, 2019

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

I am sure that Indiana Jones takes a special place in the hearts of every Star Wars fan, so I hope you won’t mind when from time to time we bring you some Indy news as well. 🙂

It’s curious that the movie will be released in the same year as the final chapter of the new Star Wars trilogy – Episode IX. It will be a year to remember. This year Harrison Ford will be 77. Kudos to our favorite scoundrel.

Given Ford’s age, it’ll likely take place in the 60s. Can’t wait to see what artifact he’s going after and who’s trying to stop him!

Harrison always has played Indy younger than his real age. Also 3 films take place in the ’30s, and one in the ’50s.

I stand corrected, then maybe, given Ford’s age, it will be set in the 70’s?

It may well do. I’d go for the ’60s as it makes dramatic sense – Older Indy could see out his movies in the era that gave rise to the James Bond films, sort of coming full circle.

Each decade deals with the popular genere of the time. The one set in the 30s followed action/ adventure serials, the one in the 50s was other-wordly sci-fi. If one was set in the 60s, I don’t know what it would be. Psychological, or historical drama?

Given the Bond influence on Indy and its popularity in that era, I could see it taking a spy thriller route, but who knows.

Is there any word as to whether the George Hall segments of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles are still canon, since they were removed I beleive in the later re-edits?
If they are no longer rlevant, it would be interesting to older Indiana Jones in the 1960s as a sort of legendary, retired figure ( somewhat akin to Wyatt Earp in the 1930s ). He could then be enticed back into relic-hunting if something personal stake is involved ( as has happened to Indy before of course ).

No George. This character is really his baby, and all of the stories have been his, so this is going to be a bit weird to get used to. Regardless, hope it’s a fitting sendoff for Indy and they have the balls to close the franchise out.

This may well be the last Indy film we see with Harrison, so something special that could possibly tie together the whole saga would be brilliant ( and I don’t mean having cameos from past characters necessarily, but something thematic ).

The monkeys suck, Spalco was underdeveloped, Hurt was under utilized, and the resolution of the alien thing is not satisfying. On the other hand, CS still has its moments. Ford is invested in that film in a way he hadn’t been for years; the opening Area 51 and Doomtown sequences are awesome (fuck the haters – the fridge is absurd and hilarious in all the right Indy ways); the truck chase is (mostly) vintage Indy – It’s the least successful of all four films so far, but there’s still some good in it.

That’s the thing, it wasn’t a terrible film. The problem is is that it’s an Indiana Jones film and an Indiana Jones film is supposed to be brilliant. And when you have names like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford attached to it you do kinda expect brilliance.

And when you’ve waited 20 years for arguably the best cinematic hero ever to return too. The real problem is the fucking internet allows angry nerds to magnify everything entirely out of proportion

I don’t blame the internet. Yes it gives a platform for angry fanboys to vent their frustration upon the world but who takes those wankers seriously? I am more than confidant in telling whether or not a film is good. When I read someone who says that ATOTC is the best Star Wars film all I want to do is sit that person down and show them TESB over and over and over again. I’ve had older people than me telling me that the films I watch are boring and repetitive, Who gives a fuck? I fucking don’t. If I like a film that”s my prerogative but I will not come onto a site like this and whinge and whine about how said film is a pile of crap like certain people do. I will state MY facts. If you don’t like MY facts then that is fine by me. The internet is fuck all when it come to movie reviews, I hardly ever take into consideration what half of these so called hacks that call themselves critics because they are full of shit. And the worst critics are these armchair warriors who think it’s cool and hip and trendy to critique a film that is fucking great because they think it’s fucking trendy. That’s all it is, these wankers think that by condemning a film like TFA makes them look cool and hard are pure idiots. Yes I know that TFA harkens back to the story of ANH and yes it could have been a more original film but that is what we got. When I saw Carrie on the screen it was like hello Leia. When I saw Harrison It was like hello Han. Fucking hell, when I saw Luke at the end it was like Hey Luke, where you been? You will not dampen my Star Wars films you God damn idiots. I know you will try but you will be climbing an up hill battle.

Oh, I agree that nobody should listen to angry nerds. The problem is that the mainstream media picks up on the loudest, whiniest voices and presents those as consensus. Look at RT (shudder) for CS – 78%, yet you’ll hear the media confidently pronounce that fans hated it, and hear angry fans claim that critics hated it.

Angry nerds are the best aren’t they? That’s why I don’t listen to anyone’s opinion about a film. I realize that people have different tastes. Ex Machina? Loved it but my housemate hated it. Terminator Genisys? Meh… but my housemate loved it. Sometimes I think these haters complain is because they think it makes them look cool. I come here for the news but stay for the comments, it’s a whole different kind of entertainment.

Its about Atlantis, its based loosely on a computer game from the 90s that LucsaArts puts out and its been an open secret for years that both Spielberg and Harrison were keen on the subject. And that Spielberg wanted to do a water movie. His first since swearing off them after Jaws. Its actually a super big deal.

However whatever plans to include Lucas as they were – he himself set on fire with his breach of contract musings on his opinion and edited opinion of JJs film

He barely wrote a New Hope and has less and less to be actually credited for in every film since. Hes a wealthy hack who can pay writers for the souls… And has done so successfully.

    A matter of opinion.
I think Shia was great. For me, he has charisma, a cool presence in front of the camera, and his comical facial expressions are so natural, like a young Harrison Ford.
Karen Allen, the cgi and the second act of the movie were far worst than Shia.
Spielberg needs to be wise. He doesn’t need a “Young” unexperienced or cheesy writer for this (now my only concern for Ready Player One).
He has Harrison and best producers, kaminski (so important in this saga to look like the other 4 movies) He needs people like Kasdan or Darabont (like a big redemption) to give a good story and a great film.

As a ghost? Indy said he kicked the bucket in Crystal Skull.

I must of missed that. Don’t think we want a ghost, unless its to do with the afterlife…

Please no Lucas or Koepp writing it. I’m not expecting anything great with a 76 year old star but I want this to try to redeem 4 in the way that Rocky Balboa/Creed sort of did with Rocky V.

Last time we got an Indy/SW film months apart in the same year was TCW film and KOTCS, My two least favorite entries in both series so they only have up to go with this one. Especially if Shia isn’t it which I doubt he will be considering King Speilburg’s experiences with him.

Lucas never scripted these things – he’s the story guy. Story was not the problem with CS. Koepp is only partly to blame – half of that garbage is grafted straight in from Darabont’s draft of the script.

Lucas’s original idea for 3 was centered around a haunted house which sounded just as bad. I want to see a new religious artifact rather than more new age stuff.

I’ve never been a fan of Koepp’s work but at least Darabont’s done some good stuff earlier in his career.

I prefer even Young Indy over Indy 4 even though Flannery looked as much like Ford as the guys up for Solo and it was cheesy as hell in most parts. I think it got a lot of flack due to it trying to cram every historical figure into it and would have done better had it been it’s own thing rather than part of the Indiana Jones series. The locations alone pre-CG made me buy it when it finally went on discount.

    Sounds dangerous.
