New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Planet Name and Other Plot Details Revealed by Children’s Book!

Yesterday our friend @JaredLSloan alerted us on Twitter about his very interesting discovery that he shared on imgur. He posted several screenshots from a children book, revealing several plot details from The Force Awakens, as well as the name of a new planet from the movie.

BEWARE OF SPOILERS!

I’ve tried to arrange the screenshots in chronological order. As you will see they reveal a good deal of the plot, without any huge spoilers, but again I would advise you to stop reading here if you want the ultimate experience on December 18th. 🙂

1. Poe Dameron and BB-8 meet Lor San Tekka, played by Max von Sydow on Jakku:

PoeSo it’s Lor San Tekka’s important message that is put in BB-8, which will help the Resistance. Could this message be in Luke’s Bespin lightsaber? And it appears that they exchange something that looks like a necklace in their hands.

We’ve actually already seen a brief shot from the meeting between Poe and Lor in one of the TV spots (via Old Biff from the Future):

Poe 02It’s obviously and interior scene with a candle burning in the background. This is when Poe says “We’ve got company”.

2. It appears that Maz Kanata is Han’s old mentor. It’s strange that he never mentioned that before, but this could be covered in the upcoming young Han Solo Anthology movie, and get a proper explanation.

Obviously BB-8 has an important mission in the movie, he has something important for the Resistance (pretty close to Artoo’s role in A New Hope). Han, Rey, Finn and BB-8 go to Maz Kanata’s planet Takodana for help. It’s interesting that the book says “Han’s new friends”. This suggests that there are no family relations in this group, or who knows…

Han and Maz

3. Probably one of the many creatures at Maz Kanata’s castle is a spy. Captain Phasma and the First Order are preparing to assault the castle. Our heroes are captured.

A spy on Takodana

4. The First Order troopers (Hasbro call them Riot Control Stormtroopers) equipped with shields and an electro tonfa (especially useful against lightsabers) are preparing for battle on Takodana.

First Order Troopers

5. Leia’s X-Wing squadron led by Poe Dameron comes to the rescue. They manage to rescus Han, Chewie and Finn, but Rey and BB-8 are captured (probably by Kylo Ren, as we’ve seen from the TV spots) and taken to Starkiller base. It’s interesting to see when our heroes get separated since we saw them all entering Kanata’s castle.

X-WingsAlso, now we have the first official confirmation that The Resistance headquarters are on the planet D’Qar. If you search for that planet on Wookieepedia, you get that the planet was first mentioned on the novel Lost Stars (via Aglarion):

At one point, one of the protagonist is scouting several systems with the rest of his squadron in order to find where the Empire is building the second Death Star. They visit a planet, D’Qar, which is described like this:

“the thick canopy of trees covering the surface of D’Qar (…)
“We should list this planet as a potential base in the future. The Empire’s not interested, not much space lane traffic in this area, plus there’s plenty of water.

6. Finn is going to Starkiller base with Han and Chewie to rescue Rey and BB-8, before the Resistance destroys the superweapon.

Finn rescues Rey

7. Han, Chewie and Finn crash land on Starkiller base. Trying to save one live, will they lose another?

Han Crash

That’s all. Make sure to tell us what you think about this basic plot outline of the movie in the comments below. Do you like it? Keep in mind of course that there will be many other details, characters and subplots in the full movie not mentioned above. Also there are at least several occasions when children’s books to a certain movie were not 100% accurate with the actual movie.

Also, I am still not sure if this book is supposed to be released before the movie, but obviously the person who posted the screenshots didn’t have problems grabbing one.

Again special thanks to @JaredLSloan for the find.

D’Qar and Takodana are too similar in my opinion. I assumed the Resistance base was also on Takodana based on the similar environment.

in Legend there’s 400 BILLION stars in the 6 galaxies accessible, in Canon, there’s only two Galaxies, so about 150 BILLION stars with planets.. and people complain about how everything feels “similar” .. you know we all have to shoot this on just one planet…

This isn’t the same as Tatooine and Jakku. These are two planets in the same movie that will have scenes back to back. There are plenty of real world environments that aren’t foggy hill country. Maybe there will be more to distinguish them, but from what we have seen they are too similar. An element of good design is instant recognition of change in location.

Which plot details? That he was an Admiral on the Star Destroyer where Leia and her daughter Rey were on when it crashed on Jakku, and where Leia, with her dying breath in the arms of MvS asks him to take care of Rey?

yeah i know , its not star trek , not every contact or piece of equipment has to be explained … the whole thing with obi and vader and later slapping ep iv on a new hope was , to paraphrase lucas ” well you missed that episode , you just have to work it out” like he had to with 30s cinema serials if he didnt go one week . or ” it just works , i dont care how” . … mystery is cool . let me fill in the blanks , you just get on with the immediate story.

If Maz was indeed Han’ s mentor, then she is NOT force sensitive and she knows nothing about jedi or the force. Otherwise I would expect from a mentor to share this knolidge with her pupil. Or at least few stories. But Han clarl didn’ t believe in these things

She could have hidden that her power comes from the Force. She is a pirate after all. Or she could have become his mentor after ROTJ (less likely given she is called his “old mentor”).

I think the original “leak” half a year ago, when someone mentioned that they read the script, would tell a flashback about how how MvS (Lor San Tekka) was a Moff or Admiral on an SD, he crashed on Jakku and became bitter with the empire for not rescuing him.

Leia and Han both crash during the battle of Jakku and their twin babies get split, Kylo gets captured together with Han and Chewie and Kylo is put into FO internment while Leia gets caught and put into custody of Lor San Tekka.

But then again, that “script” said Leia would die when the SD crashed on Jakku and only Lor and Rey survived along with a handful of others, who start colonizing Jakky.

The only issue I have with this is that Rey and Kylo seem way less than 30 years old which is basically how old, or older, they’d have to be in order to have actually been alive at the battle of Jakku. Unless of course the whole ‘set 30 years after Return of the Jedi’ is an estimate and its actually set less than that.

Adam Driver is actually 30, but I think Daisy is portrayed the same as that luke was, a 20’something playing an 18 year old.

Didn’t really read through these too much, but the entire concept and feel of the children’s book (along with the early plot release) is almost identical to the OT children’s books back in the day. I loved those books as a kid, but they confused the hell out of me for years as they were the only place that specially described what a Sith Lord was, and WHO they were…even though that was never mentioned in the early films.

Little things like that make these books awesome.

BB-8 being taken prisoner puts a different spin on things. We know he’s in Poe’s X-wing during the final assault on Starkiller base. So how does he go from being a First Order prisoner to getting re-teamed with Poe? I assumed it was only Rey taken prisoner.

Reboot confirmed. Oh well. I was all for the same setting (X-Wings, TIEs) but I feel that the story should have been much fresher/different. The spine of this story is exactly the same as ANH with a sprinkling of ESB and ROTJ. Lucas took it too far away, Abrams takes it too close.

This backs up my theory that there is something concealed in Poe’s leather jacket that pertains to Luke’s location. Believe Luke’s lightsaber is stored in BB-8, whilst this ‘necklace’ is hidden in his jacket. The necklace has some kind of code that when broken reveals Luke’s location. Why else would Finn take his Jacket and continue to wear it on the desert planet Jakku.

    • November 21, 2015 at 11:40 pm
      Permalink

Where do you get the necklace idea? I figured it was one of his code cylinders in there though that’s a more obvious place to store them.

In the photo Finn receives a “necklace”. I believe there is something in this object that is the coded location of Luke Skywalker. Rather that storing it in BB-8, I think he’ll conceal it in his leather jacket. I believe this is why Finn takes his jacket. Maybe Poe tells Finn about it before they crash.

I’m hoping Lucas comments about Disney moving away from his original vision of Star Wars being a family soap opera (He wanted the new movies to be about the children of the OT and the creative group wanted to do something new) and this small description of “Hans new friends” ends all the “This person is related to this person” talk.

But it wont and people will still think Rey and Kylo Ren are Jacen and Jaina Solo lol.

Well, yeah otherwise in a galaxy already filled with coincidence we get even more when these random people, not at all related to Han, Leia or Luke suddenly mixed up with all of them. If there is no connection to them then why are the old stars in the film if for nothing but fan service. Having some type of relationship with them is the easily explanation. And like him or not, Lucas is right when he says Star Wars is a skywalker story, to call it Episode VII one would hope they aren’t reinventing the wheel.

No I’m saying if they aren’t related then it is yet another coincendence that they meet up with Han, Leia, and/or Luke. And if they aren’t related, why are the original even in this, if not for fan service. I’m also stating that Star Wars is a Skywalker story. If they aren’t related or this isn’t the continuation of the Skywalker lineage in someway then Disney shouldn’t have titled the film Episode VII and left it as a 6 movie arc and not insisted this film is Episode VII with VIII and IX on the way.

“And if they aren’t related, why are the original even in this, if not for fan service.”

Because they are the main characters in the movie this is the sequel to? Who ever said a sequel has to be about the children of the characters in the previous movies? As to the point that it’s supposed to be the Skywalker story — well, Luke and Leia are Skywalkers.

          • November 22, 2015 at 12:40 am
            Permalink

Yeah, its obviously a difference of opinion. I think its pretty clear this next trilogy is about the next wave of heroes in Star Wars and not about Luke or Leia or Han. If there is no direct connection between these new heroes and the old besides coincidence of them meeting, I feel its fan service to include them more than anything else. I feel like they are there to reel everyone in while they introduce new characters. And that would be pretty much their only existence if there is no deeper connection between these new characters and the original ones. Sure there could be some explanation in the film but if it doesn’t involve some deeper connection, as in kids or family, of the old and new then its probably thin at best. We will find out though.

I feel like Star Wars episodes have been the Skywalker story. Lets not pretend that means these old characters only have to be included in some way. No that isn’t it, its a Skywalker story meaning the heroes should be connected to that lineage, that they should be Skywalkers in someway. I’m fine with Star Wars films not being about Skywalkers anymore. But I’m not ok with a Star Wars Episode VII film being a continuation of Episode VI and what came before and it not being a continuation of the Skywalker story. I feel like there is and should be an expectation that Episode titled films should be about the Skywalkers.

You obviously seem to disagree, but I feel if these films aren’t about the kids of Skywalkers and they are all brand new characters creating their own legacy I don’t want those films to be titled Episode VII, VIII and IX. Title them something else or do away with the episode moniker all together. Its not a Skywalker story if Luke or Leia is included in the story about Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo if they aren’t directly connected to the lineage of previous films. Its a Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo story that just happens to include Skywalkers in it. And I think they should have separated that from the previous 6 films if that is truly the case.

Its even got a trench on the poster and has been called a third death star. Its obviously not and EXACT copy of a new hope- there will be tons of awesome new stuff and new plot lines. Kylo looks to be distinct from Vader and hopefully not too much like him, and I think we will get less and less similarities as the series goes forward, but even some magazines are calling this movie a reboot so Its a little unfair to say its NOTHING like the plot of ANH.

I have a real bad feeling that Chewbacca is going to bite it in this movie. Please tell me that I am full of it…

I think its going to be Leia.. Have you seen Carrie Fisher lately? SHe totally let herself go again after filming was done…They are getting ready to film Episode 8 now (if they haven’t already)…and she looks like a complete mess.SHe has gained all the weight back. I bet Kylo wacks her.

Watch a Western from the 1940’s or a swashbuckler from the 1930’s. Watch
an episode of Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers. Sar Wars A New Hope was, is
and always will be an adventure film which takes elements that have
always exsisted in Movies and spun it within a space setting. The new
one will be no different. It resonates because those elements and movies
were escapist fun. The fact they repeat beats from previous movies,
George Lucas made or not, means nothing in the great scheme of things.
Star Wars was never about originality, it’s about fun.

You can’t take it back!!!! yo said it its done….it this movie sucks, you’re partly to blame because it was your criticism that partly echoed to him and made him want to sell the franchise and ‘move on’.

      Not quite!

BB-8 given star killer base plans at beginning of the movie during stormtroopers attack. – Not base plans

Rey stuck on Jakku dreaming of a better and exciting life. – quite the opposite!

Rey needing to be rescued from star killer base. – yes, though obviously manages to do most of the escape herself

Rey seeks out Luke – closer to Luke seeking out Yoda than him seeking out Ben.

Why do people think he dies in the crash? He’s the most likely canidate for a token death scene but we already seen the both of them on Starkiller base no worse for the wear.

Ah, you see, a reversal. Instead of the message coming to the old man, here the old man sends out the message.

You guys just have to let star wars go, george lucas made based on his child hood favorites, everything is out of date and cliche now, star wars is the past, it should be laid to rest to make room for something new

There’s literally nothing creative about this film or the star wars franchise
one good movie out of 6 of them so far and you still want more?

Star Wars fans are worst than battered wives and drug addicts.

Lucas made terrible prequel films, but the overall concepts weren’t bad just needed a lot of tweaking.

JJ Abrams has zero creativity. If he did, he would be creating his own franchise from scratch instead of piggy backing of the fanbases from series made up of people who don’t want to let go of their child hood.

Star trek was terrible, and this film will be so as well.
And It’s a shame because I think the young actors they pick for this film are good, and deserve better.
