It sounds to me like JJ Abrams isn’t going to depress the children by killing off any of the stars in this one.

I don’t believe any of the original 4 (6 with the droids) will die in TFA. JJ and company don’t want to start off their shiny new trilogy on a depressing note.

Well, I dunno, I mean ANH killed off Obi-Wan. I’m hoping that ONE of the original cast dies, we need our new stars to lose a swordmaster and really start off their journey.

I know what you’re saying but I believe emphasis can be placed on the new characters without an original character dying. With all of the rumors it would be hugely disappointing to see them be true and our favorite scruffy looking nerf herder bite the bullet! Particularly since JJ has recently said that he is surprised that nothing has been leaked. The mystery box continues for 18 more days….

but Obi Wan didn’t have that magnitude back then, that he has now. I think Ewan Mc Gregor did very much enhance the character in PT making Alec Guinness’ performance even more haunting. On the other hand, arguably, Harrison Ford will be remembered in the history of american cinematography for two characters: Henry Jones JR and Han Solo. There’s a humongous emotional load in so many people for both of them, it’s almost like’ the characters are too big to die. If anything, I think JJ is extensively competent when it comes to the history and the tradition of western cinematography and the way things work in “classic” Hollywood; that makes me hopeful to see Han’s appearance in both 8 and 9.

+ not having the Big 3 reunited on screen (and it doesn’t seem to happen in TFA) would be one of the biggest missed opportunities in the history of making movies.

You just have to consider the time gaps between this trilogy. Ford is going to be damn near 80 years by the time Episode 9 is out. I rather see Han Solo go out in a noble way, still kicking ass than watch him get older and useless as time goes by.

Plus it may have been one of Ford’s conditions to come back or it was a bargaining point for him to come back. He wanted the character to go out in a meaningful self sacrificing way as he said recently on Fallon. They are not going to tell us that yet, either way.

I love that JJ himself was one of those kids that grew up with the inspiration of Star Wars backing him.You know all those fanfilms made by people with the same drive and passion, but without the skills or experience to make the fanfilm truly spectacular? This is what I’m hoping for from JJ. A fanfilm in disguise as a blockbuster.

Said it before in comments…. Harrison Ford is definitely growing the Han Solo haircut…. someone mentioned he ‘aways’ wore his hair like that, which I found strange as for the past five years at least, between films he’s sported the crew-cut look at lengths between that seen at ComicCon and much shorter as per when he crashed his plane…

Yep. Harrison Ford never wears his hair touching his collar. He’s definitely growing it out and he doesn’t have any other projects he’s working on or in pre production (other than possibly Episode 8!)

I have always said: “Disney didn’t spend $4 billion to NOT _____”. In this case, the “____ ” is “not have Han Solo in all three movies, if not more”. A year ago the “____” was also “NOT have Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill in a sequel to Return of the Jedi”.

There is no way that Disney would put out that kind of movie to make Star Wars movies that take place after ROTJ and then just kill of arguably the most popular character after like 30 minutes of screen time. That goes for Han, Luke, Leia… anyone. Besides people always misinterpret Ford wanting to have Han killed off when making ROTJ. He said in that particular movie, Han didn’t fit in with the theme of the movie and was essentially a bystander. He thought if Had sacrificed himself for his friends it would make for an interesting moment and end for the character. in TFA, Han is THE guy. He is the one that is moving the story along (or so it appears). He has a use, a huge, important use. So there is no reason to kill off Solo.

Considering he is wearing a wig in The Force Awaken’s…i do not see why him growing his hair is a big deal..As far as him growing the Solo haircut..that is impossible..he is almost bald on the top of his head.

I just hope we see Han kick ass before he bites it. I’m not talking like Yoda in the prequels since he is just a few years shy of 80 but take out a few stormtroopers with his trademark heavy blaster pistol or in some clever way while doing one of his Han-isms at a crucial moment. Hopefully we are getting more of the older version of him from A new Hope/Empire rather than the domesticated house husband he became in Jedi.

I was thinking about that recently too. ROTJ did not do justice to Han Solo.

Hence him wanting the character killed off and how lamely he was treated in the EU afterward. I hope he dies in this one if he’s anything like that here otherwise I wouldn’t mind seeing him survive for another film.

I bet Leia dies setting Han on a quest for vengeance in the next movie leaving him running off half-cocked with his fate in question towards the end of this one.

Im just glad the prequels have set the bar so low that no matter what this is going to be better … even if it is, storywise, a retread of the OT (its not just going to be a retread of A New Hope because both Yoda (Maz Kanata) and the Emporer (Supreme Leader Snoke) didnt even exist in the original Star Wars movie) …. if anything this movie just looks fucking fascinating so far in the trailers …. Ugh, 2 weeks and some change to go!

If it’s a hybrid of Empire and New Hope… and it pulls it off? That’s an awesome start. Think how much there is left to tell in two other movies!
