I’m honestly more curious than excited about the film. I was excited about the PT because we had some idea where the story was going and had to happen adding all the years of speculation. After seeing the new trailer which is easily the best of the TFA ones (if only that something actually happened In it with dialogue) it looks like it will be very entertaining at the very least visually but the performances sound kind of cheesy. Still too early too tell though but there’s no question that Williams score will pretty much drove the trailer.

I also don’t like how it has a very digital look and feel from what we seen, Not AOTC crazy which is a good thing but I’m getting a TPM vibe in terms of the liberal use of it. I should have figured the practical effects PR was just that though.

There is definitely a risk that Kylo, Finn and Rey may sound “overdramatic” depending on the range of Boyega’s, Ridley’s and Driver’s acting skills. It happened to Christensen in the prequels and the result was not good. I’m particularly worried about Kylo and Finn (from the trailer), and not so much about Rey.

I believe Ridley is theatrically trained so I’m less worried about her too if that’s true. I think this may be Driver’s first time playing a villain and I’ve not heard many positive things about Boyega’s acting ability and I think this might be his first time using an American accent. Really, Everything will all depend on the new cast. The OT cast can coast on nostalgia but if the next generation is weak then it could sink the entire trilogy in the way that HC did with the prequels.

You have mirrored my sentiments on the movie exactly. I am cautious about the movie.. we (the audience) know nothing about the plot of the movie or the direction they are taking the story line. Also, we don’t know that much about the prowess of the actors or their on film chemistry. For full disclosure.. after reading some of the peripheral literature, I have become somewhat skeptic of the story line I speculate they are taking. I.E… I don’t believe Luke will have any offspring.

I think we know quite a lot about the plot now (or at least have a general idea about it). There are some huge unanswered questions though that have been kept a secret to surprise us..

I don’t think we really know much at all.. I’d bet that most of the scenes from the teasers will play out in the first 30 – 45 minutes. We can make a limited guess at the progression of events from the movie clips (but that’s under the assumption that most are in chronological order) .. but no where near enough information to assemble the plot or story line.

The only one I am really familiar with is Oscar Issacs who is actually pretty damn good but only got one scene in each trailer. Then again Liam Neeson, SLJ, and Natalie have given great performances as well but they certainly were not in any of the Star Wrs films they were in.

Natalie wasn’t bad in the first one.. but I didn’t buy into any of her performances in Clone Wars or ROS. As far as the regular cast.. There is no doubt that Harrison will bring it.. but I am a bit worried about Carrie and how Mark will do. Especially any fight scenes in Mark is in. With the new cast.. I’m trying to stay optimistic. Truthfully, I’m more worried about over all story and the direction Disney is going with the franchise.

I think the script and storyline was part of the problem with Natalie…and that there was little chemistry between the characters: the romance between Padme and Anakin never felt right.

If the new movie gets all the characters right I think all will be well!

I will be going in to see it with my fingers crossed! but will definitely leave my Fanboy goggles in the car. LOL.. I have high regards for JJ’s work; although I don’t totally agree with how he made Spock in the new Star Trek.

Yeah, Carrie and Mark have not been in front of camera for ages or at least not in starring roles which were certainly not action oriented ones. The whole story group thing does bug me too. Like they will drop whatever they have planned in favor of “what’s hip” “toyetic” or “kid oriented”,

Why is everybody so certain that Kylo Ren is talking about Vader when he says ” I will finish what you started” ? It’s true that this dialogue runs over the Vader helmet shot but let’s not forget that in the previous trailer there was Luke dialogue running over it, so it could just be an edit trick for the trailers. What if the dialogue is spoken to Snoke when Kylo Ren gives him a mission report ? What if Snoke started the Knights of Ren and Kylo will finish their quest to unlock a big secret ? What If Snoke is Darth Plagueis and formed the Knights Of Ren in secret after he was betrayed by Palpatine to unlock the secret to immortality ?

Plagueis as Snoke would be GREAT!!! Also Snoke as one of Yoda’s species would be another. Or the farthest out of them all is that he is Palpatine(who had cloned himself before the events of Jedi.

I think Kylo is saying that he is going to turn Luke to the dark side when he is talking to the helmet and I don’t think he is loopy he is just thinking to himself as if you were looking at a picture of someone who has past

Me too, although I suspect it’s Finn’s (Poe’s?) jacket and his military field-medic training trying to retain Chewie’s body heat. There’s as much speculation over that jacket’s story as Anakin’s lightsabre which I think is great – thanks Kasbram!

I doubt they kill off Chewy since they can put another actor into the suit. My guess is that’s Han. That doesn’t look like a jacket thrown over a body.

FLASHBACKS!! Can somebody inform the Collider Jedi Council that Star Wars movies do not use flashback sequences as a storytelling device. They always bring it up, but don’t consider that the Star Wars films has always maintained a consistent narrative story form.

Case in point: “Revenge of the Sith” ends with Vader and friends watching the construction of the Death Star. Surely, this scene would have been better served as a flash forward or a montage closer to “A New Hope,” but doing so would have broken the established narrative form. Instead, we have to swallow a giant pill of Suspension of Disbelief knowing that the Death Star took 30 years to build. And we do it gladly because the established form is integral to the serialized charm of the Saga.

Sure, sure, JJ is changing up some of the visual style with the fluidity of the camera, but those are minor directorial choices, not new narrative devices in how the Saga is told.

in attack of the clones, during the battle of Geonosis, Lucas did some crazy ass digital crash zooms on gunships giving it a whole saving private ryan feel. That felt fresh too so i welcome what JJ does if keeps it under control

It was a fine trailer, although what kept it from being perfect was the way they threw in the kitchen sink at times. The ultra-quick scene of R2-D2 that we already saw is oddly edited, same with the shot of Leia being held — that moment needed a another beat or two. And some odd match edit points throughout. But it sure looks beautiful regardless.

I really, really hope that Snoke is either Plagueis, or Plagueis is the founder of the Knights of Ren. But if he is the founder of the Knights of Ren, who is his apprentice? The rule of two would probably still mean something to him.

The Rule of Two isn’t too important to Plagueis. He allowed his apprentice Darth Sidious to break the rule by having his own apprentice Darth Maul.

Also, I fully realize that the “Plagueis” book is considered legend, but legends are often true.

Does anyone else believe that Supreme Leader Snoke is either Yoda’s species, Darth Plagueis, or some other character that we would recognize…… There has to be a significant reason that he and Luke or both absent from the trailer!!!
