Agree with clayman515, Kylo keeps looking more awesome!

Anyone else think maybe he’s not force sensitive, just a badass fighter with a lightsaber, like Pre-Vizla?

It occurred to me, but I feel like the second trailer dissuades that a bit since in the teaser he appears to use “force push” against something. Also JJ has confirmed that Snoke is “Powerful with the dark side” and I think Snoke & Kylo will be cut from similar cloth.

I just watched the second trailer again. Granted, he does the force push hand gesture, but you never see him push anyone (that I saw), so I’m still hopefully he’s doing it as an aggressive gesture, and ends up not just a Darth clone.

Though Zeriah’s database quote shows contrary to my thoughts.

A source that I’ve talked with previously has said that the OT characters will be featured in their own section of the marketing campaign in the coming months. Presumably, this is going to happen late into the game – like, “a month or two before the movie” late.

I think that’s smart. I doubt they are going to be the central characters, and it would be pretty shitty if they blue balled us into thinking the movie would primarily feature the original trio. Remember when you first saw Darth Maul and thought “Whoa that’s a cool looking villain!” and then he only really does shit in two scenes. And the central villains turned out to be Nute Gunray and the Neimoidians?

Thanks for the link. These images showed up on Force Friday and the first poster is in better quality than I was able to find before. There is also one of Rey I am trying to find that is that size with no allposters watermark. The pictures where they are against a white background are great for your Star Wars – The Force Awakens memes. I made this while watching Avatar on FX the other night.

If nothing else, I think that TFA will have a better box office draw than Titanic when all is said and done. Avatar is a tough act to beat in terms of financial performance, but if any movie franchise could do it, it would be Star Wars.

The new blasters always seemed a little off to me and I finally figured out why.

the front grip in the original trilogy which is the same as in TFA, is actually the stock. I saw a video of the original prop in action. So, why does the TFA have a folding stock and an additional butt stock?

    • September 8, 2015 at 6:09 am
      Permalink

They don’t. The sterling sub-machine gun was used for the basis of the storm trooper blaster in the OT and it has a folding stock. But it was never shown opened in the films meaning in that universe it is just a foregrip or design feature. Now they have added a dedicated stock.

I woukd be more upset about the jarring iBlaster type design. It doesn’t sit well at all. Makes the design too busy and makes the blaster blend in with the storm trooper.

I think Chewie is going to be featured heavily as a supporting character in the other two ST movies. It’s easier to keep using him compared to the other OT heroes, since it’s just a guy in a costume IRL and Wookiees are long-lived in-universe.

It’s becoming clear to me that none of the old cast is the focus of this trilogy. That is a mistake. Disney had plenty of time to create a new generation of heroes. These movies should of focused on the old characters, intruding the new. Eventually switching over the course of the trilogy.

    • September 8, 2015 at 6:59 am
      Permalink

The Sequel Trilogy isn’t about the original cast though, just like the Original Trilogy wasn’t primarily focused on the Prequel characters. The old cast is there to gradually pass the torch on to the next generation.

Besides, your comments reflect Disney’s marketing of the film. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of the old cast in supporting-cameo roles throughout the Sequel Trilogy.

I agree with you but even this way It is not necessary to use the original actors only to be forced to write about 30 years after Endor. It could use new actors (and I don´t care) to be Luke/Han/Leia right after Ep. 6 happenings.

    • September 8, 2015 at 6:11 pm
      Permalink

I disagree. Focusing the story on the original cast would be a mistake. As much as I love the OT cast, I’m not trying to see a movie focusing on old people fighting the evils of the Galaxy. I think it’s best to use the OT cast in mentoring and leadership roles while thr younger cast is in the thick of the action. It’s been 30+ years. You need to let it go. If you want new Luke, Han, and Leia adventures then read the new novels.

As others have mentioned already, the more promotion art we get of Chewie without Han the more fearful I am about Solo’s fate. Maybe Disney feels the death of Han will hype up the Solo prequel (?) I suppose I’d be ok with Han sacrificing himself in a heroic act, but I’d rather see Han & Chewie fly off into a Tatooinian sunset then see one of the greatest characters of this franchise die on screen. Just my opinion

I don’t know man, these all look ok but there’s so much bad photoshop happening I just don’t understand how some of this stuff passed quality control. 80% of the stuff that came out on Friday seems rushed and not complete. Been thinking this too, but I think we need to remember much of this stuff is disconnected from the film. It’s just marketing people putting out generic tat. We’ve seen all this tacky stuff before, and we’ll see it again. Remember all the cheesy ads for the OT, indeed the tripe like the Holiday Special, its extraneous stuff that has no relation or bearing to the main pieces of work they’re made to promote.

You know why there are so many promotional photos with Chewbacca all of a sudden? My take is that is because he’s gonna die in TFA. On designbyhumans.com I saw an official The Force Awakens licensed t-shirt with Chewbacca that said “LOYALTY” over his head. I’m pretty certain that all those rumours about Han dying are fake and Chewbacca is going to sacrifice himself for Solo. JJ won’t risk killing a legend and I’m totally fine with that.

    • September 8, 2015 at 10:45 am
      Permalink

I also think that Han Solo spin-off will focus on him saving Chewbacca and thus showing us origins of their friendship and how Chewie always had a life debt to pay

    • September 8, 2015 at 11:31 am
      Permalink

I think they will keep him alive as he can be played by other actors down the line

      • September 8, 2015 at 12:10 pm
        Permalink

I don’t know, I think that killing Solo may be just too predictable – everyone including JJ and Kasdan knows it, but keeping him alive thanks to Chewie would push him to settling in with Leia once and for all.

Certainly would be a way to subvert expectations of people like us but I think in the wider fanbase, most folks won’t really know Ford wanted Han to die in the OT so to them it would be quite a shock, he is the biggest movie star in the whole thing after all.

          • September 8, 2015 at 1:14 pm
            Permalink

You may be right but I think even wider audience would in some way see that coming. “Old mentor” characters always die in movies, nothing surprising or shocking about that. I’d find that extremely refreshing If Abrams took a different way. Especially since Solo already suffered in OT. Only 100 days and we’ll get to find out 🙂 Besides – so many secrets are being kept about this movie, I can imagine previous rumours about Han’s fate being fake as much as “Obi-Wan was your father” in ESB.

          • September 8, 2015 at 2:58 pm
            Permalink

In my point of view so many secrets are held about this movie because, if more things are revealed, people will think of it as a clearly reboot of Ep. 4.

Except Redlettermedia is not the voice for all Star Wars fans, and that group of geeks telling everyone that Star Wars needs to be a specific certain way or it’s no good, is ridiculous. While yes, they did a good job at pointing out a bunch of plot holes and things that just don’t work very well with the PT. I’d be happy if JJ Abrams didn’t watch that video because he already knows what was wrong with the prequels. He doesn’t need some small group of internet nerds dictating exactly what the sequel movies need to be like because you simply just cannot please everyone. Even if he made a movie that was exactly what Redlettermedia wanted you’d still hear about Star Wars fans not liking it.

When you let one man or a small group of people decide what is good and what is bad for the rest of society that’s just an Oligarchy and I prefer to not let an Oligarchy dictate what is a good or bad Star Wars film for me, thanks.

Lots and lots of Kylo Ren here. Hopefully he is better used than Darth “killed-off-all-too-soon-while-Jar-Jar-lived” Maul.

It must be said that “Kylo Ren” is a rather un-scary name, but perhaps there will be a certain moral ambiguity to the character; we must wait and see.

I’m glad it’s not another Darth-whatever. Only because there were so many villains with the Darth prefix in the prequels that the title has lost it’s ominous bite.

Yeah for some reason they always seem to make this vast star wars universe look smaller by focusing to much on stuff and characters we already know about…sw is so big… show some new stuff and yes the darth blablabla thing is done to much already… i hope it is over…
And please introduce new strong characters that are not related to any skywalker or solo or whatever

Yes there is alot of focus on Kylo Ren…
The voice of the Kylo Ren toy sounds alot like Mark Hamill to me…
      Hmmmm i wonder….

JJ said Kylo is not his real name and that …”Ren”..is because Kylo is part of the knights of Ren!

“Lots and lots of Kylo Ren here.”

Because nobody gives a shit about Daisy. And certainly not Boyega.

So they gotta pimp who they think will draw people into the theatre.
Which happens to be Kylo Ren.

The only interesting character in what is most certainly going to be a disaster of a film.

Please, go somewhere else. Another franchise. Thanks.

Yep, it’s going to be a disaster because you have absolutely no idea what the film is going to be like, while rumors from Makingstarwars.net do not count.

Please, grow up a little and accept that things can still be good, and quit jumping to negative conclusions. Nobody like that kind of behavior except you and your cat.
