Harrison Ford Adapting Very Quickly to “Peg Leg” Crutch – Possible One-Month Recovery Time?

Harrison Ford - crutch - Star Wars Episode 7

Some very promising news on Harrison Ford’s ongoing recovery from his leg injury – including a possible time frame for his return to the set.

This latest report comes not from the usual fan sites, but from People Magazine’s website. However, it does contain some new information from a representative of iWalk, the company that makes the “peg leg” crutch that Harrison Ford has been seen using to hop around London over the past several days.

Harrison Ford is a quick study – he easily learned how to use a special crutch that got him back on his feet following his recent injury on the Star Wars set.

“I wish everybody was so easy. He gets it. He’s mechanically inclined,” Brad Hunter, the director of business development for the iWalk crutch, tells PEOPLE.

“He’s a tough guy. He was in very good spirits – he was alert and very sharp,” Hunter says. “He wants his independence.”

Evidently, Ford took to the iWalk like a duck to water, even before he’d been trained on it.

Hunter spoke with Ford on the phone to coach him on how to use the crutch, but says the actor didn’t need to wait for instruction.

“We’re walking him through it and were like, ‘Before you take your first step, here’s some tips.’ And he’s like, ‘Too late, I’m already doing it,’ and was walking around the room with the cell phone,” Hunter says. “This was like a day or two after his surgery, so he’s still got a lot of pain.”

And there was even a bit of potentially good news on Ford’s projected recovery time.

As for how long Ford will be out of commission, “I don’t know for sure, but I think he said about a month,” Hunter says.

Take that with the usual caveats, of course. A broken leg isn’t exactly the kind of injury that you just shake off over a long weekend. However, it sounds as though perhaps Harrison Ford may indeed be looking at the 6-8 week recovery time that was originally reported – which would be excellent news for the Episode 7 production, and especially for Ford himself.

And to think that people called me an overtly optimistic Disney PR-wannabe when I wrote my article on this.

Glad to see he’s a-okay! You can’t keep a good man down.

@Pomojema what we were critizicing from your article is that you give information as 100% valid that sw7news itself links to philly.com (section: celebrities & gossip), then you deny that Abrams and Kennedy are struggling with release date (telling that’s gossip BS) when that’s something reported while before Ford’s injury.

SPECULATION MODE ON: In one month could be back at Pinewood for close ups, but maybe not for a walking shot.

I think that Viral Hide said that the rumor about the delays were BS. Nonetheless, I thank you for your insight – it’ll help me write better articles.

JJ started shooting very early. There’s still plenty of time for HF to come back without delaying the release date.

Still, a broken bone is serious and I never heard of anyone fully recovering from that in one month or even two.

Delaying the release date will never be up for debate, Disney will never allow it.

Viral, could you please make it so the comments come up along with the story right away?

Right now you have to click on “Show Comments” to read the comments. Not sure why that extra step is needed, unless your page requires that.

While we’re complaining about the comments section, the “Like” image doesn’t show up on Google Chrome, and it’s keeping my “Likes” from registering.

He wrote an entire article about it a couple of days ago. The reason for the show comment button is so the main page moves at a much higher speed without having to load the comments.

Just from looking at the picture, the brace is around the lower leg and consistent with either a fibula or tibia fracture or it could be both. The fibula bone is the outer bone of the ankle, and since its much smaller than the tibia it’s more likely to break with trauma hitting the lateral leg. It’s definitely not a fracture of the femur, otherwise he couldn’t weight-bear with the iWalk brace. Recover time for a tibia/fibula fracture would likely be 6 to 8 weeks.

it would be fun if they added a scene (when ford has recovered) where he kicks in a door on the millennium falcon (or kicks the wall or something) & says: you old piece of junk!!!! 😀

even more fun if the bridgedoor malfunctions & he has to kick iot real hard to make it work 😀 😀 😀

If he’s as good at that as she is (obviously different when you’re in pain), they could actually use this for filming. Assuming he’s only walking, not running, this could be useful.

I wonder if Disney/JJ insisted on such a device. He’d be able to stand eye to eye with his fellow actors, not wobbling or leaning on crutches. He would be able to walk smoothly (especially after slight video enhancement). Could merge with another actor’s legs or CGI in a leg in some shots. Even shots from the waist up will look better this way.

Not to mention, it’s probably better for his other leg muscles to get exercise so that they’re not atrophied when it’s time to start putting weight on that lower leg.

There is no benefit to rushing back when you have a fracture. Take the time to heal properly or you raise the risk of reinjuring or creating a new injury.

    Ego is dangerous.

They just cant avoid Han Solo having a clutch. C’mon, Han Solo , old space-pirate.
Ive heard about the hover chair idea. I dont like that picture. It would just feel inapropirate. Hover chairs is something for mad sciencetist and nutty geniouses. Not Han Solo! And if you start talking Force non-sense, his gonna swing that stick right in your midichlorian bag.
Why does a old han solo need to run and gun, why does an old Indy need to swing ropes and parcour every possible object? Just let him age! Please get over the tired old constipitation
