Dominic Monaghan Rumored for a Jedi Role in Star Wars: Episode 7?

star wars

It’s just another rumor found on Twitter. Knowing Monaghan’s passion for Star Wars and his close relations with director J.J. Abrams it’s definitely worth mentioning…

Still just a rumor, but our sources are saying that Dominic Monaghan @DomsWildThings will have a role as a Jedi in #starwars #EP7

@YagoRochaAlvz – It’s still just a rumor but we’ve got the same info from multiple sources and this info is based on last 12 hours

@AnthonyRaposa – nothing confirmed. Just rumor at this point. Multiple sources however over last 12-24 hours.

I could definitely see Monaghan as a background Jedi character.

I really hope not, this would kill it for me, he’s fine in LOTR , but NOT for SW.

As a HUGE fan of LOST, and a sizeable fan of the LOTR trilogy, I wholeheartedly endorse this +the Nth degree!

    BTW – FIRST!

I presume the lead will be a Jedi. I don’t know if the two sidekicks, the new han and leia, are going to be Jedi or not. I presume they will want lots of Jedi in the film. So if there’s like a whole group of Jedi that are a group (Lord of the rings anyone?- http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/22500000/Fellowship-of-the-Ring-fellowship-of-the-ring-22588602-1024-768.jpg) then it would be cool to give one of the roles to Dominic, as he is a great actor and he is a huge star wars fan which would be really nice to see. If this Jedi character is a principle role however, then it would be a bit too distracting for someone like Dominic to have such an important role.

I think he would be fine for a role. He might even make a good Ben Skywalker, but the only problem is that he’s too old. To old to begin the training….

Check the official info. The EU stuff is out. So no Ben Skywalker. Thank heavens…

lol. It boggles the mind to see EU fanboys still talking about their beloved EU characters, even though Disney and LucasFilm have already confirmed that all that crap’s history. Then again, these folk are EU fans to begin with, so I guess they’ve been clueless all along.

      Antonelli,

It’s one thing to use some EU elements, the way Lucas did with some things (Coruscant, Quinlan Vos, etc.) for the PT, for instance, and a totally different thing to see EU characters onscreen, especially in the ST’s leading roles.

This is never gonna happen, simply because it isn’t smart story-telling at all. Good story-tellers aren’t borrowing other people’s creations; they love to come up with their own original creations. And in this case, it has been clearly proven that Abrams and Kasdan have big imaginations of their own.

Thinking they’ll be as lazy and incompetent to depend on the Mara Jades, Jacen Solos and/or Ben Skywalkers of the world to spin their new SW yarns, is not only as stupid as Binks. Speaking of the EU, this would definitely be as delusional as Joruus C’Baoth.

Don’t worry guys. If he gets to be a Jedi it would be really something insignificant. Just a few minutes of screen time.

Here here. Samuel L Jackson also got in the franchise simply because he wanted to.

And in my opinion, like I’ve said before, Samuel L was a disaster.

Well everyone was a disaster because of George Lucas’ directing. Samuel L Jackson as a kick-ass jedi? Sign me up! But with George’s directing, anyone would have sucked.

Revan, what makes you think that the EU is out? We were told that Khan wasn’t in Star Trek, but as we now know. that was a mistruth. It would make sense to incorporate some EU characters into the SW sequels (and possibly stand-alone projects also).

Maybe that George Lucas, Lucasfilm, and Disney have confirmed EU is out. Type it in google and read articles all day about it.

That’s the way it looks, all right! However, JJ Abrams and his PR people have used disinformation and red herrings before. It’s possible they will use EU characters, but with different names and slightly different histories. Anyway. we won’t have to wait too long to find out.

I have a passion for SW too, but I wouldn’t put myself in it! NO WAY is he right for SW, even a cameo. Why would u kill a film before its even been filmed. Jeez 🙁

Kill the film? Wow. Famous actors are in films all the time. Are people genuinely surprised that people from other big films and franchises will also be in episode 7..?

I have been a huge SW fan for 20+ years now. It was a huge part of my childhood and early adult life. I consumed every piece of EU material, from novels to comics to games. SW is inseparable from my personal identity. I’ve been a member of the online SW community on multiple sites over the years but as I’ve gotten older it became less and less important to me. I stopped reading novels and only occasionally read the comics (and they really haven’t made a decent story driven SW game since KotOR). When Episode VII was announced my interest in Star Wars was rekindled. Like most nerds I love coming to news sites such as this and reading up on the newest rumours. What I’ve found however is that the SW online community has somehow become divided into “stupid EU fanboys” and “righteous OG trilogy only purists”. How is it that people see the fact that people loved Star Wars so much that they needed as many new stories set in that world as they could get as stupid? How is my love of SW less valid and meaningful because I read those books? People like me have become just as attached, if not more so, to characters they’ve been reading about for 20 years as you are with our beloved movie heroes. To see them willed out of existence is a bitter pill to swallow, and I’d love for many of these characters and elements to find their way into the new movies, but I’d be just as fine seeing all new characters fling the same archetypes. The vile I see SW EU fans treated with on this (and other) site(s) is frankly disgusting. Insee so many comments about how “EUtards keep coming on here and ranting” (which I suppose I am doing… But not so much about the EU itself). I honestly see more posts from people complaining about the EU and how stupid it is, and the people who enjoyed it, than I have ever seen involving people being rude trying to defend it. This division itself is disturbing as people are literally arguing over the correct way to love the same thing. If you don’t like the EU, fine, but don’t crap on people who do and somehow think you’re a better fan than they are, and the same can be said to EU fans (but I don’t see them nearly as often slinging mud at the opposition)… In the immortal words of the band War… “Why can’t we be friends?”

When asked for a source they respond with “multiple sources” and seem to avoid the question…
That should be a sure sign.
