Rumor: More Downton Abbey Stars Auditioned for Star Wars: Episode 7?

 star wars

It’s no secret that J.J. Abrams is a huge fan of the Downton Abbey series. He even wanted to guest direct one episode from the series. Last year while he was promoting Star Trek: Into Darkness he visited the set of the show. At that time he told the press that he is visiting just like a regular fan of the show. Now some new reports suggest that actually he was looking for some actors for his upcoming project Star Wars: Episode 7…

Yesterday Variety revealed a short list of contenders for the male lead in Episode 7. One of the names was Downton Abbey’s Ed Speleers.

Now according to the Mirror more stars of Downton Abbey have been auditioning for the latest Star Wars blockbuster.

JJ Abrams, who is directing the seventh instalment of the sci-fi saga, has visited the Highclere Castle set looking for actors.

Lesley Nicol, 60, who plays cook Beryl Patmore, said: “JJ Abrams came to the set last year and he is just about to do the next Star Wars movie. He loves the show, and he checked a few of us to star in the film.”

As well as Lesley, other actors who may find themselves sitting in the Millennium Falcon include Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Grantham and Michelle Dockery, who stars as his eldest daughter Lady Mary.

Abrams, who starts filming Star Wars Episode VII in London in May, gushed about the ITV period drama. The 44-year-old Star Trek director said: “It’s absolute soap opera – done triple-A plus.

“It’s cleverly written and brilliantly cast. “It lets you enjoy what is – at the core, a pulpy family drama, but done with such respect and regard for the characters, you feel they’re all alive.”

Downton stars Jessica Brown Findlay, 24, who played Lady Sybil Branson, and Dan Stevens, 31, who played Matthew Crawley, have already moved to Hollywood.

Lesley said: “The door has been opened for everyone in the Downton cast, people really want to meet you.”

Not many of Downton Abbey actors are particularly great to be honest. Although I’ve been thinking a few times now about Maggie Smith. Such a legend. Comedic roles, authoritative roles, you name it. Similarly like Judi Dench who has been rumored. I’d like to see one of those two. Or maybe even Meryl Streep. We’ve had legendary male actors like James Earl Jones, Peter Cushing, Alec-Guiness. Why not a legendary female star for once?

I %100 agree with you on Maggie Smith. I’m thinking a character like Kreia from KOTOR2. Or like a dark-side Obi-wan.

Not great? Downton Abbey is as brilliantly cast and acted as it is written. It’s way higher brow than anything made in the US, and probably goes over a lot of peoples heads. These people run circles around almost everyone rumored for Ep VII.

…Yes Downton is brilliant written. And way better than lots made in the US.. What has that got to do with my point about acting? Why is it when ever anybody says their opinion people reply with a load of waffle that has nothing to do with the actual point haha. The acting isn’t great overall. It’s good. And in some cases brilliant. But in some cases terrible. Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Brendan Coyle. They just make me weep with horror. But, as I say, there’s people like Maggie. Lesley nicol is also great. I thought Siobhan Finneran was absolutely brilliant but she left. Yes, there are exeptions in the cast that are brilliant like every show, overall the actors that get loads of screentime are usually pretty average or in some cases just flat out bad.

Probably Streep is legendary but she doesn’t fit at all in Star Wars.
Not Many DA actors arer particularly great? Are you kidding me? It’s a show based on great characters and all the actors are absolutely brilliant, especially Maggie Smith.

I mentioned Maggie Smith as an exepction. Does nobody read well anymore? Haha. And “Streep is legendary but she doesn’t fit at all in Star Wars.” Doesn’t make any sense at all. My point was (seriously can people just take the time to read instead of jumping to conclusions) that star was hasn’t had any older legendary actresses yet. So I was merely suggesting Meryl, Judi, and Maggie. Of course she can fit star wars. Like the others, they are diverse and great actors so they potentially have loads of opportunities for something like star wars. Maggie was in Harry Potter, Judi was in James Bond. Maybe Meryl’s blockbuster can be star wars. Of course she can ‘fit’ it, it depends on the role.

Michelle Dockery is hands down the best actress on Downton Abbey. You only say worst because you’re jealous of her and you have low self-worth.
