UPDATE! C-3PO is on the Cover of the French Magazine Studio Cine Live, Promoting New Info About Star Wars: Episode 7!

star wars

Could this be a hint? The title says ” First Info About Episode 7″!

So far R2-D2 is the only confirmed cast member for the new movie. Could C-3PO be next? It’s definitely quite logical.

While the image is from Attack of the Clones with added number 7 (as pointed in the comments), what’s more important is the article itself.

According to one of the posters here:

“The magazine should be out tomorrow in France and the magazine is pretty poor regarding the exclusive news.”

So don’t hold your breath.

UPDATE!

So it looks like just another misleading article. Here’s a comment from a guy who read the article:

As I suspected yesterday, there is absolutely NOTHING NEW related to Episode VII. It’s just a summary of all we already know. There’s also a point on the rumours, but who really cares as everything’s already been treated here?
And of course, all pictures are only old stuff.

But to be faire, there’s an interesting article with photographs regarding ‘Star Wars Identities’ in Paris.

Thanks to the Anon who posted this.

He definitley looks like he’s got 30 years of ware and tear since the conclusion of ROTJ. I think this is enough to confirm the character of C3PO being included in episode VII (as if we didn’t already know). Although, we’d all still like to know whether or not the role will be played by Tony Daniels.
What does the article in the magazine mention?

It’s perfectly understandable for a fan like me to be excited at first glance of something new regarding the next installment of a series I’ve loved my entire life. Sorry for my brief mistake, but like I said; I corrected it below. Would you feel better about yourself if I removed the comment entirely?

IMDB has taken away the “rumored” status on all of the leads: Hamill, Fisher, Ford , and Daniels.

Is it just me, or does he look a bit more rusted out and weathered than when we saw him last? His right forearm looks different as well (like his leg) though it may be the angle. Carbon scoring on my droid! 🙂

I know that, but it lends some credibility that this may be the C3P-O that we may see in Episode VII. This is a good thing. I would also think that being such an iconic and ageless character, he should be in all of the films along with R2-D2. George Lucas has said that they would be the only characters in all of the movies.

Yeah, it looks like they probably just photoshopped him from EpII for this cover, seeing as how barely any info has been released on the ST. It is a very hot topic to write an article on. More mags should be following in these footsteps.

Darn it! Thanks for pointing that out. Seems that C3PO has had his outter shell replaced a few times during the Saga. He’s rough in this but at the end of IV he looks spiffy!

What’s weird is that they chose this version of threepio instead of the more iconic, classic gold one. I wonder why…

Maybe it doens’t have anything to do with Disney/Lucasfilm/JJ – maybe they just did it on their own. Pretty simple to do, I could do what they did and I’m not a graphic artist.

Maybe the news is is that the entire new trilogy will just be a “photoshopped” version of the OT and PT sliced together!

    • February 4, 2014 at 5:26 pm
      Permalink

      @dopeyjoe
Why not the “iconic, classic gold one.?” Perhaps it’s because of rabid fanboys who keep insisting that Star Wars should have a gritty worn-out look instead of the shiny, classical look pioneered by the prequel trilogy. Quit complaining, OT fanatics. You got exactly what you ordered.

    • February 4, 2014 at 5:29 pm
      Permalink

@ Anon Feb 4 204 at 5:26 PMWell, the first glimpse we ever got of C3PO was the “iconic, classic gold one” in Episode IV. I think you’re just trying to bash someone for being an OT fan.

    • February 4, 2014 at 5:34 pm
      Permalink

I’m certainly not complaining, I just figured that from a publicator’s perspective, using the more iconic gold Threepio would draw more eyes to the cover. I’m very happy with the plans to make EpVII reflect the grittier side of Star Wars we grew to love in the OT, although that doesn’t mean that the new republic won’t be shiny and clean-cut as we know it to be from the PT and TCW. Hopefully we’ll se a well-balanced juxtaposition of the two.
You really shouldn’t be so quick to put words in the mouths of other fans.

As far as C3PO’s condition take this into consideration: At the end of EP I 3PO had no outter covering. In EP2 he had what you see in the picture. Why? Well my interpretation was that he was pieced together by whatever they had, which wasn’t much being on Tatooine. Notice how nice he looks at the beginning of EP4. He’s definately been taken care of being in the home of Senator of the Alderaan Organa.

    • February 4, 2014 at 5:46 pm
      Permalink

Do you actually think there’s even a possible chance that the New Republic will be “shiny and clean-cut?” Not when the majority of Star Wars fans scream and cry “we want dirty and gritty! We want dirty and gritty!” As a fan of both trilogies, I hope you are right in that Disney finds a proper balance, but the OT fanatics are too vocal and demanding. They have gotten their way in every area so far. Which is why Disney is utilizing miniatures/props/sets. Which is why theyre using old film to shoot the film. Which is why the main characters are (most likely) going to be recognizable OT characters in their 60s and 70s. Which is why they’re falling back on the “safe” instead of embracing the innovative new. (and yeah, yeah, I know, there might still be innovation in the production of VII, but that is certainly NOT how Disney is selling the film, thus far.) I respect your opinion, dopeyjoe, and I did not imply you are complaining. In fact, I like your comments. I just don’t think Disney/Lucasfilm is taking this franchise where it needs to go.

True, however take this also into consideration: we have no idea where we’ll be in the chronological timeline at the beginning of episode VII. It could be that the galaxy has been in turmoil for 30 years since the conclusion of ROTJ and oppression has once again struck the rebel alliance. It’s foolish to predict such this having no details yet, for both of us.

    • February 4, 2014 at 5:56 pm
      Permalink

A little off topic but not much – One of the things that doesn’t get talked about is how in the OT the stark difference between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, visually. The Millennium Falcon was an old, clunky ship in bad need of an overhaul. Yet, inside the Death Star was a prestine, orderly space station. That’s one of the things that makes Han Solo so likable. He’s an every man dude scraping by…just like the Rebel Alliance.

You’re clearly basing your opinion on irrational prejudice against OT fans. It’s really not that hard to understand why they’re looking to lean towards the themes of the OT with the new trilogy. We shouldn’t have to spoon-feed you our reasoning.

But the picture is NOT from the OT. God, I’m a prequel fan but everyone else who is a fan of the prequels are never satisfied by bloody ANYTHING, even if it’s content FROM the prequels. Get a grip and shut up. Seriously, the only people I ever hear complain about anything star wars related are these people who are supposedly the ‘REAL’ fans of star wars because they love the prequels so much. I like the prequels but god you lot are so embarrassing. Shut. Up. And. Stop. Whining. You. Babies.

The fanbase we’re all part of strives on knowledge of the saga. ow that they’re holding new material in front of our faces without letting us know exactly what’s going to happen, that gives everyone reason to go see the movie/TV series.

Uhmm… just to set the record strait, R2D2 us not the first “Cast” member…. cast member refers to an actor playing a character…. You should refer to him as the first “Character” to be confirmed returning in the film… plus there would be no actor playing him as R2 would be controlled remotely as a functioning robot….

The magazine should be out tomorrow in France.
I’ll have a look and tell you if there is anything interesting in it (probably other French around will be faster than me…).

But don’t hold your breath: “Studio Ciné Live” is a minor magazine and pretty poor regarding the exclusive news. So I’d be more than surprised to find something new in it. This cover is just a way to ensure some cash in mentioning Star Wars episode 7… The “first information” will probably be the very few ones we already know.

I just have no idea why lucasfilm or disney would think that the best way to release information about star wars is with some magazine from france.. I think it’s like all these things, they take old news, quotes from cast members, pick a bunch of rumours and then create a ‘confirmed’ story with it.

Regarding Lucasfilm/Disney: it can create some buzz. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Star Wars exclusive news emerging from a place we do no expect. That’s part of the game.

On the one hand, they have been promoting Star Wars by putting out The Clone Wars and Rebels news in Germany, to grow the market, it’d make sense to do it in France as well. On the other hand, 99% of the time, when people use titles like that, it is a Half-Truth; something people following the production already know from interviews, most likely.
