Kylo’s fast lightsaber shot had already been shown before in the Japanese trailer. The only significant new shot is the attack on the castle.

It took millions of crybabies (to be honest, probably just a few thousand) Steven Colbert to tell them the truth, now we see it in action, I just imagine myself Colbert sitting at his desk, watching all these trailers and touching himself.

If Finn dies, I wonder if people will come out and call JJ a racist for killing the black guy? I hope Finn doesn’t die, though – I think he’s going to be awesome!

I think the racist thing to do is to pin a story decision on a issue. So, only white people can die? Finn is not equal? Why can whatever happens to his character be bigger than his skin colour?

          • November 16, 2015 at 1:20 am
            Permalink

My comment was in relation to the outbursts of racism from people who had a problem with John Boyega being cast in a major role in the film, which I thought was absurd and awful. In my mind, he is a really talented actor, and I’m sure he was picked because he was the best person, nothing to do with colour. I agree with your comment – I’m leaning towards him dying in the film as well – but I really hope he doesn’t (again, not because of his skin colour).

I love him too. I just hope if he lives or dies has to do with the best story to tell – not what is PC.

And Kylo didn’t even spin around ONCE. So glad they’re not going the prequel route of having everyone dance around like ballerinas with their lightsabers.

God your so right TUD. The twirling jumping chaotic dancing lightsaber battles in the PT’s really ruined the mystique of a lightsaber fight I have had since the OT. Im sure the younger crowd who grew up with the PT’s thought it was cool, and I get that and understand. For us OT people who really enjoyed the epic fight between Vader and Luke during the carbonite chamber scene, and the final death star fight scene, really love the simplicity yet power of the original saber fights. I hope they go back to that.

        • November 15, 2015 at 8:05 pm
          Permalink

I agree. Lightsaber battles are so much better when they’re emotionally charged rather than being over-complicated and dance-like. And if Rey’s facial expressions are any indication, this little exchange will most definitely be emotionally charged.

        • November 15, 2015 at 8:20 pm
          Permalink

Agreed. I like the idea that these people are trying to take each other OUT, not practicing their balletic, highly choreographed moves. Give me the lighsaber battle from Empire over anything from the prequels any day.

          Exactly.

In the OT lightsabers were meant to have weight, and that translated on screen as each swing having power and importance. With the prequels it all felt so light and effortless… the fights did become faster, sure, but not more intense.

I’d really like to know if this music is part of Williams actual score. I’m guessing not as it sounds pretty hokey and the music from the last trailer was done by a ringer.

At least one of the TV spots is confirmed to have music from the movie, and this music seems new also. Hokey? It’s pure Star Wars music!

Which one? I don’t mean the themes but rather how they were composed. Does not sound like Williams at all. More Kiner-esque.

That does sound more like his style but probably chopped up to hell like most TV spots, hopefully not in the final cut though.

I think I’m looking forward to the scores almost as much as the movies themselves. John Williams’ scores for the prequel movies were the most redeeming thing about them. I think the scores were responsible for elevating the movies from total disasters to merely crushing disappointments. The Revenge of the Sith soundtrack is probably my second favorite of the six movies after Empire.

I agree. I think II could have been a lot better had Lucas not meddled by cutting his music around and essentially wound up reusing the stuff from TPM rather than what he originally had wrote.

One thing they will be doing in these movies that no one picked up on besides myself:
I think Kylo will be a main character we follow. Not just a bad guy and not just a bad guy with depth. I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie is not about Rey and Finn nor is it about Rey and Poe.

The movie is about Rey and Kylo, the Solo twins we all know about.

From everything I’ve seen so far I think Kylo uses a mixture of Form 3,5, and 7. The one that really stands out to me is 5. He looks like a guy who wins any confrontation he’s in, almost effortlessly. If that’s the case (and I think it is) then 5 would definitely be the main form he looks to use. If indeed he uses any of the forms at all.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Kylo might be the most menacing character we’ve had since Vader. I’d almost go as far as saying he’s approaching that “Nearly more menacing than Vader” but that’s going to be hard to do. I was 10 when ROTS was released and at a young age, and to this day, one of my biggest gripes with the PT is that they didn’t have 1 guy throughout that was there to the end. Some could argue that was Sidious, but I was upset they got rid of Maul so soon, instead of riding him out through the beginning of ROTS. Before all of this new footage came out, I was afraid that they would “Maul” Kylo, but after the trailer from Celebration, I’m convinced Kylo is here for the long haul!

While any doubt I had very early on has been erased that TFA would at least be better than the prequels, now Im curious if this can actually be on par with or, GASP, better than the OTs … Its looking so promising at this point! There’s no way *The Empire Strikes Back* will be topped. I wouldn’t put it past JJ to make a film genuinely better than a New Hope or Return of the Jedi. It’s not likely, but it’s certainly possible.

Yeah, I try to forget that Mech-Maul version also, although, even that might worked, but NOT in that way obviously. Revan is great comparison since Kylo is clearly more Revan-like than Vader-like. I guess they’re not ready to make Revan a canon so they keep on pushing that Vader-fanboy thing.

Maul did shit in the movie, GL should of used him more. He’s not much more than Boba.

I’m still not tired of seeing that X-wing chip away and then explode that TIE fighter.

The image you included is not the same, but I believe someone previously mentioned it might be an earlier concept of the same ship. We have seen it before however, in the first teaser. At about the 30 second mark in the top left.

what am still trying to figure out is how the First Order always seem to find the heroes. , first they show up in that spaceport where Rey and Finn are , later they show up at Takodana. Does this mean they are tracking Finn with an implant he is not aware of ? Tracking the Falcon ? or Kylo Ren has a powerful force connection with Rey that ables him to feel her systems away ? ( witch i doubt since not even Vader could feel Luke after the battle of Yavin. )

The First Order are in pursuit of a person or object, and at first Rey/Finn merely cross their paths and decide to take a stand against the First Order once they discover their purpose in this big ole galaxy. Rey/Finn then make it their mission to pursue the same person/object as the First Order, so it is only natural that they cross paths again.

I would imagine that once they cross paths on Jakku it becomes a race to see who gets to Takodana first, or they are betrayed by a companion, or if all else fails — homing devices (used all the time in Star Wars movies).
