Jon Favreau on How Marvel Inspired ‘The Mandalorian’ and Time Jump Between ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and Season 3

With the marketing tour for The Mandalorian season 3 now in full swing, John Favreau visited Madrid, Spain, to attend a Q&A in which he provided some interesting details about the new season.

When asked about the relationship between The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Favreau explained how he was inspired by the MCU to reunite Din Djarin and Grogu outside of the main series:

“[The MCU fans] are talking to one another. If you go look on YouTube or you go into any social media, there are discussion groups and videos where people are filling each other in on things, so there’s a lot of thought put into the interpretation of what’s presented.

And I was really amazed at how people followed… Because I was there from the beginning. And it became incredibly more complex as time went on and all the way up to the Russo Brothers and the latest Avengers films. And what was interesting was that they could do chapters that were not in the specific storylines of the characters that would affect the characters. So like Captain Marvel being introduced, Black Panther… So I learned a lot by watching how sophisticated the audiences were, and people are very quick to fill each other in. So I felt like I had the liberty to not spend all the time with those two characters apart in The Mandalorian and spend that time in The Book of Boba Fett as chapters that were as a novel where there were chapters that dealt with different characters.”

He went on to confirm that the new season will include recaps of the events of The Book of Boba Fett for those who may be a bit behind, and that some time has passed since Din and Grogu reunited on Tatooine:

“And of course, thanks to Disney Plus, you can go back to watch certain episodes, and we’re also gonna have some recaps that we put together for people who are maybe more casual viewers who wanna be brought up to speed after two years and remind them where the characters were. But Grogu has developed a lot and now time has even passed since The Book of Boba Fett and since he trained with Luke, so as you will see, his Force powers have gotten greater.”

On Wednesday, the tour continued to London, where Favreau was joined by lead actor Pedro Pascal at the opening of “The Forge: Inspired by The Mandalorian” exhibit, which will be open only for two days, on the 22nd and 23rd, in Piccadilly Circus. Tickets are already sold out, but you can check out some photos from the red carpet here:
