Shawna Trpcic, Costume Designer on ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, and ‘Ahsoka’, Has Died at 56

We are sad to report that Shawna Trpcic, who Star Wars fans will know as the costume designer for Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and the most recent seasons of The Mandalorian, has died at the far-too-young age of 56.

Trpcic’s career began in the early 1990s, during which she worked on a pair of Barry Levinson films, Bugsy and Toys. Over the years, she gained an impressive list of film and television costume design credits. Some of her well-known works include but aren’t limited to Firefly, Angel, The Cabin in the Woods, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Dollhouse, and several live-action Star Wars television shows.

Trpcic was a longtime fan of the science fiction genre and of Star Wars in particular. Years before she was ever hired to work on the saga, she had the opportunity to meet George Lucas while on a tour of Skywalker Ranch.

Once she got the chance to do costume design for the galaxy far, far away, Trpcic approached her work with the utmost care and attention to detail. She learned as much as she could about the history of Star Wars costume design and concept artwork to better inform her own design decisions. Trpcic loved working with showrunners Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau as well as the casts and crews of every Star Wars production she was a part of. In addition, she was a regular attendee of the Star Wars Celebration events, during which she would talk to fans and judge cosplay competitions.

Upon her passing, her coworkers had this to say:

Filoni: “Shawna had a deep love and appreciation for Star Wars. You can see that in every piece of work she did with us. She loved everything about being a part of these stories, including connecting with fans and being a part of that community. I feel like she has always been a part of Star Wars. Her costumes tell a story, providing the suggestion of a life experience that happened before the cameras rolled. I loved collaborating with Shawna, and I will miss her presence.”

Favreau: “Her creativity brought this world to life. She will be deeply missed both as a friend and as a colleague.”

Trpcic’s costume design was recognized by various award organizations several times. She won a Costume Designer’s Guild Award for The Book of Boba Fett and received Emmy nominations for her work on Chapter 1 of that show, as well as Chapters 13 and 17 of The Mandalorian.

We here at Star Wars News Net wish nothing but the best for Shawna’s family and friends in this difficult time.

May the Force be with her.
