‘Ahsoka’: Eman Esfandi Talks Being Inspired by Ezra Bridger

If you’re anything like me, you probably found Eman Esfandi’s Ezra Bridger one of the most enjoyable parts of Ahsoka, by a long shot. It was also a bit of a shame that the actor couldn’t really do any press promotion for the show, due to the still-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, so we could actually hear from him and his excitement about Star Wars. (He did, though, post a few messages on social media that didn’t mention the show but were clearly about it.)

Thankfully, though, the official Star Wars social media accounts had previously recorded some small interviews with him, which they have now shared. In a video published this week, the actor said the following:

“I take Ezra Bridger as a real person. He’s so smart and so gifted. He’s grown into himself a lot more. He’s become a much stronger Jedi, and even more so, he’s become more of a family member amongst his team and crew of rebels. Because also I already felt so connected to Ezra and felt like he was there whenever I needed him, I just felt that inspiration. But yeah, Ezra, young kid, with a lot of heart.”

Esfandi’s live-action incarnation of Ezra was by far one of the best parts of Ahsoka, so we hope it’s not going to be a one-off and that he’ll actually stay here with us for a while, be it via Ahsoka season 2 or another project like Dave Filoni’s feature film. The actor, as far as we know, is not currently scheduled to come back for any other project. However, given where Ahsoka season 1 ended and Ezra now being in our regular galaxy, it’s a pretty open question where he will pop up next — especially now that Thrawn’s return should be felt across the entire galaxy sooner rather than later.

In a follow-up video, Dave Filoni also talks about his own contribution to the Star Wars galaxy:

“We all bring a little bit to Star Wars of what we like and we hope it fits into that galaxy. George [Lucas], he created this galaxy. He created these dynamics. Jedi, Sith. All these things I play with, and I’ve been fortunate that he taught me a lot of things. I’m always doing my best to follow what he taught me and my nature comes into it. So you get space whales and wolves, you know? That’s all part of it.”

Filoni will be continuing the story set up in the first season of Ahsoka at some point, whether it’s in the second season of the series or in his own movie. Stay tuned for whenever an announcement gets made!
