Cate Blanchett Wouldn’t Mind a Role In a Star Wars Film

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett has joined the long list of actors who wouldn’t mind joining the Star Wars Universe. Out promoting her new film, the veteran actress spoke about why she would love a role in a future Star Wars film. Read on for more.

Actress Cate Blanchett said she wouldn’t mind a part in a new ‘Star Wars’ film.

The 46-year-old actress Blanchett is used to playing big parts in fantasy type films such as the ‘Lord of the Rings’ saga, the recent ‘Robin Hood’ and the new ‘Jungle Book’ film. She has appeared in over 50 films and over 20 theatre productions throughout her career.

While promoting her latest film, the Australian actress revealed to The Irish Sun that she admires the work of executive producer J.J. Abrams and hinted at her desire for a role in a Star Wars film.

“Star Wars, I suspect, is is probably a lot of fun. JJ Abrams is a gifted creator, I’d certainly be game. But it would have to be on Skellig Michael. She said. “I suspect that may the only time a crew is allowed to be there.” she added.

She also talked about the beauty of the Kerry islands where the blockbuster finale of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended atop a spectacular mountain island.

“Isn’t it just the most awe-inspiring lace. It’s like something out of a fantasy, out of the minds of the greatest artists.Truly Breathtaking. Soaring out of the ocean.” She said.

Blanchett isn’t the only actor who has expressed interest in the galaxy far, far away. She now joins a growing list of actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Dwayne Johnson, Amy Adams, David Oyelowo and Dave Batista, to name just a few, who would love a role.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking; who wouldn’t want a role in Star Wars? And while that’s true, I think most us can agree that Cate Blanchet would bring some pretty heavy star-power to the series. Blanchett is currently starring in Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, opposite Christian Bale.

What type of Star Wars character would you like to see Blanchet portray in a future Saga or spin-off film?

That would be incredible to see her in a star wars movie! Maybe as dark side empress of sorts.

With all respect to Ms. Blanchett, she just doesn’t do it for me as an actor. I acknowledge she’s talented and would probably play an amazing character, but I’m okay with her not entering the SW universe.

Well, if she DID, she would need to play someone other than Galadriel, you know what I mean? Like, half the movies she’s in, she plays the “wise, peaceful counselor” and Star Wars doesn’t need another Obi-wan (that honor lie with Old Luke, we hope).

I think she should be a villain, or at least a 3rd-party player. Something that gives her new material that doesn’t include “you will need THIS to complete your journey, the fate of mankind is in your hands” to work with.

I’m game to see her as a cyborg. Like a riff off of General Grievous, but with an actually good actor underneath it. I wonder what kind of emotional depth Cate would bring to the “cyborg” motif?

I don’t know she wasn’t a very convincing villain in Crystal Skull (not that anything else in that film was convincing. )

Harrison Ford wasn’t convincing in Crystal Skull,

Calling BS – He was back in a way he hadn’t been for a decade in that picture, and it seemed to actually have re-energized him in everything he’s done since. Cate tried to make the most of what she had to work with, but honestly, that wasn’t nearly enough.

The Daughter: I know what it is you saw, for it is also in my mind. It is what will come to pass, If you should fail. The Resistance is breaking, it has already begun. HE will try to take the saber, you know of whom I speak. One by one, it will destroy them.

Rey: If you ask it of me, I will give you the lightsaber.

The Daughter: You offer it to me freely? I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired this.

    [starts to grow dark]

The Daughter: In the place of a Dark Lord you would have a Queen! Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the Morn! Treacherous as the Seas of Kamino! Stronger than the foundations of Coruscant! All shall love me and despair!

    [she stops]

The Daughter: I have passed the test. I will diminish, and go into the Western Reaches. I will remain the embodiment of the Light…

    Yeah…it could work. 🙂

    SWNN doing click-bait articles now?

Jk, but seriously, outside of a SW fan site like this one, articles like these on a generic geek media sites where they publish a full-page article citing a line or two from an actor/actress talking about how they’d like to be in a particular franchise (be it SW, MCU, etc) – where the likelihood of it is probably 0% – are what I consider to be click-bait articles (no need for a full page story about so-and-so stating one line on a wish just because they happen to be a prominent actor/actress). Something to keep in mind 😉

You probably said the same thing when Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig “joked” about cameos.. Buzz off

They were actually in the film (albeit cameos) there was nothing about wishes there.

        Nice try though toots 😉

There’s not born click-bait-y about articles talking about cameo roles (which is separated from a report of someone saying that they wish to be in so-and-so franchise). If you think you have the last laugh by attempting to troll me, think again…

His point is that there were articles about Simon Pegg saying he wanted a cameo, just like this one. Look what happend?
Sure, Pegg is a close friend to JJ, which makes it more likeable, but you are missing his point.

Well, in my defense, I never claimed that it’s impossible for a wish to come true 😉

My point still remains on the matter of click-bait articles though.

She would make a very good Satine; she’s certainly got the features to be accepted as as close to the Clone Wars version as possible.

Please no, she’s in too many films now. Not every blockbuster should require the lord of the rings connection.

Nor would I (mind a role in SW). My point: Darn near every actress/actor wouldn’t “mind” having a role in SW!!! 🙂

She deserves a good role as an apology for her character in KOTCS. If she wasn’t so well-known and Genevive O’Reily wasn’t such a good fit, I’d say Mon Mothma.

Maybe the Mon Mothma of the ST.
