Watching right now. Great to see Justin on the Council with Kristian and John! I love the guys’ Phantom Menance commentary video from yesterday btw, and can’t wait to see what they do for the other SW movies.

Kristian and John are too kind to LOST STARS. I’m halfway through the book and it’s a struggle to press on. It’s fairly well-written, yes (much better than AFTERMATH, which was awful), but it’s an angsty teen drama with zero action or tension. It’s a love story. It’s not a Star Wars story.

“Much better than Aftermath” is a pretty low bar to trip over. But even with the angsty teen drama, It does something the other EU books of the new canon did not…..believable characters.

Relating to the discussion in the video about new TV spots and TFA footage being shown on TV – I am now actively avoiding seeing any more clips. I don’t want to go into the theatre and have my experience marred by already seeing too much.

I’ve watched too many movies in theatres where I already saw too much beforehand and it spoilt my enjoyment. I now happily await The Force Awakens reaching us in a few weeks and will hold out until then.

That staff talk, reminded me of Raiders of the Lost Ark:
Major Eaton: «What exactly is the headpiece to the Staff of Ra?»
Jones: «Well the Staff is just a stick, I don’t know, about this
big, but nobody really knows for sure how high. It’s capped by an
elaborate headpiece in the shape of the sun with a crystal in the
center. (…) And if you put the Staff in a certain place at a certain time of
day, the sun shone through here and made a beam that came down on the
floor here. [pause] And gave you the exact location of the Well of Souls.»

Sorry, guys. I’ve already watched that movie. Let the staff be “just a stick” on this one. And no headpieces!
I don’t believe Rey has something hidden on her possession that triggers the action. I believe SHE is the hidden element that is later found and dragged into the action.

If you already have Plagueis in mind then it is easy to take what Andy Serkis as a description of Plagueis. But if you just read the actual words he says, it’s really not very specific at all (e.g. tall, damaged, idiosyncratic facial structure). Thought experiment: How does anything Serkis said *not* apply to General Grievous?(Grievous is not new, but it takes special pleading to say Darth Plagueis is new.)

Finally!! Someone backs me up on the point that flashbacks are not used in the Star Wars story format. Thanks Justin for bringing your brand of insight to the Collider Council. Now if someone could just get them to time stamp their program with topic headings in the description. I usually watch the entire 90+ minute show, but sometimes it is helpful to have a guide to navigate that much content. And its a professional courtesy to the fans.

What I called all of this movie when they started. Indiana Jones in Space. Zombie returns to life. People have kids who keep the Same names Jacen Solo = Adam Driver. I strongly believe Poe Dameron is the Queens Son. So is Jason. If you have read Plagueis you see a novel. A fun Novel about a character that is a Muun. Most importantly he had a Dog whip Master. The Dog Whip Master did something critical to Plagueis and so did Charlie Sheen.
