UPDATE 2! Daisy Ridley’s Instagram Account is Fake!

star wars

Is Daisy Ridley playing a Jedi in Star Wars: Episode 7? This assumption comes from one of Ridley’s photos posted on her Instagram on the first day of filming…

Really there’s nothing special about the image above (except that Daisy is looking great as always 🙂 ) but what’s interesting is one particular tag on it.

Here’s what Daisy wrote on the image:

Day 1! #StarWarsVII #firstday #working #lucky #jedi

Now this might be nothing but then again it might be a hint. Everyone’s guess at this point is that Ridley is playing the daughter of Han and Leia. And as we know The Force is strong with Luke and Leia so if indeed Ridley is the daughter of Leia then she being a Jedi is actually no surprise at all.

This image was posted 3 weeks ago by Ridley and it’s funny that I haven’t heard anyone discussing it. What do you guys think?

Thanks to @slewnay for the heads up.

UPDATE!

(we’ve removed the image and the link to the fake Instagram account)

After we posted the article Daisy Ridley contacted us and said that she doesn’t have an Instagram account.

@starwars7news to confirm I do NOT have an Instagram so any photos/tags/information is false, and more than that stolen property
— Daisy Ridley (@ridley_daisy) June 4, 2014

I hope Disney and Lucasfilm do something to shut down that account. This is unacceptable to post someone else’s private photos.

We’ve sent a message to LFL so I hope they settle this down.

UPDATE 2!

I’m not sure if this is because of the mail we had sent to a LFL rep, but the fake Instagram account is now deleted. 🙂

It would be nice to see a female lead who’s a Jedi. A nice shift of perspective from the 2 male Jedi we got in the other trilogies. How a female would handle the dogma of the Jedi Order is something that the movies could do a lot with. Especially since they handled it so well in The Clone Wars with Ahsoka.

I don’t think Ashoka was handled well and that’s what worries me about Episode VII. They portrayed Ashoka holding her own against assailants that would have outweighed her by 200 pounds. This is a girl whose arms would indicate that she could barely bench press 25. I understand that women want people to hear them roar, but at some point feminism has to give way to the basic laws of physics.

I suspect we may get the same types of lightsaber twirling cosplay girls in Episode VII.

I think “force” means different things in SW and physics. I think douchey and whiny mean the same thing anywhere though.

…completely agree – a female protagonist for this trilogy would be great news as far as I`m concerned;isn`t John Boyega the main figure in these films though? – just going on the main casting release a few weeks back, his name was the first one listed, which suggests he`s the main figure;Daisy as a Jedi would be super cool though.

I think that Boyega and Ridley seem to be billed as co-leads. They’ve gotten the most mention from Lucasfilm and Disney. Driver, Von Sydow, and Gleeson have barely been mentioned at all. But in truth, it’s another 18 months until this movie comes out so anything is a possibility.

Lloyd and Christensen got billed fourth and third in the prequels, and they were the main character of the prequels. It’s often more indicative of who the bigger name star and who has the more powerful agency behind them, as cast billing is negotiated. That’s not even a cast billing that was put out for ep vii, they just grouped the newbies and old timers in two entirely separate groups. Ridley is a nobody who belongs to a nobody agency. Mia Wasikowska took a back seat to the bigger names in Alice as well if you look at the posters and trailer for the film.

The way I see it, either Daisy and John are co-leads (possibly telling the story of how both the Skywalker and non-Skywalker heirs take their place in the Jedi Order and galaxy) or Daisy will be the protagonist and John will be the second in the new “Big Three”.

I’d also be excited if John was the protagonist. So many possibilities!

    Off topic…
Let’s go back to the Han Solo getting killed rumor……Bounty Hunters kill off marked targets so what if Ventress who is also a Bounty Hunter kills Han Solo for a big paycheck. They can also link her to the Bounty Hunter in counter at Ord Mental which is referenced in episode 5.

    On topic….
Yes she’ll be a JEDI…She’s Han and Leia’s daughter, she’ll be a Jedi/Smuggler. A cowgirl type JEDI, one that uses a blaster as well as a lightsaber. What if Gwendoline is playing a Wookie? She is tall enough, and female Wookies are smaller then the male Wookies.

Gwendoline playing a Wookiee is possible. Personally, I’m interested in the idea of her playing the female version of Admiral Thrawn. She seems perfect for a military leadership role.

Pass. A Jedi/Smuggler? What the heck is that? A cowboy type Jedi? That sounds like either a fanboy’s wet dream or some lazy writing. I hope her character is its own thing, not some cheap, easy mashup of two already existing character types.

Anyone discussed it because I think we all assume she’s Leia’s daughter and therefore a Jedi (they won’t make Skywalker offspring non-jedi). Daisy’s parents comments the day after the announcement points to that as well.

Last time the big 3 were the good guys. This time they may be a mix of good and bad, and may even be a big 2 or a big 4.
There may be more big cast to come, especially over the continuing episodes 8, 9, 10, etc.

Just a thought. I’m not saying I’m for or against such a scenario. What if there are no Skywalker/Solo children? If you think about it, although the Skywalker family is strong in the Force, they are also cursed. Anakin fell to the Dark Side because of an illegal marriage to Padme, which produced Luke and Leia. It may possibly be a choice Luke and Leia have painstakingly made.

Everyone assumes that there will be offspring of the Solo family or Skywalker. What if the direction is completely different?

Such a decision not to continue the bloodline could cause some tension between a Han who wants a son and Leia.

    • June 4, 2014 at 1:28 pm
      Permalink

Offspring or not, they’re not cursed. Anakin was just written all stupidly.

There’s really nothing special about their bloodline. Jedi have always had to deal with the possibility of falling to the dark side. This should not discourage Luke and Leia from having children because they’re courageous and responsible people.

Come on guys, of course she’s playing a Jedi! How many female jedis have been main characters from I to IV? 0! Leia had all the potential but we haven’t seen it because she finds it out in ROTJ. Daisy will be at last a female jedi leading character.

It’s possible, but it’s also possible the Gwendoline lady is the female Jedi. Daisy could be a Sith, because there’s never been a female Sith before, either.

Those things are possible, Rebel Scum. However, I definitely see Daisy as a Jedi. Whether she’s her mother or not, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Leia help guide her in the ways of the Force.

Gwendoline could easily be a military leader, like a female Admiral Thrawn, or any other character, good or bad. I’m going bad with her. >:D

      GWENDOLINE: I will break you.
      DAISY: *rolls eyes* Whatever…

I’m just saying the people making this film are probably going to throw everyone a curve ball.

In the PT, there was no curve ball. Everyone knew Anakin was going to turn to the Dark Side. Everyone knew he would have twin offspring. I don’t know if you’re the same ANON who said Anakin was written stupidly, but I’d love to hear your explanation of that. You mean in the PT or the OT or the overall arc of the two trilogies so far?

Personally I think Gwendoline would be great as a sith, but then again I think Lupita would be a great sith too. Max Von Sydow has got to be the new master though wow his voice, look, screen presence, it all screams sith to me.

Luke: He’s… fallen to the dark side.
DaisyJedi: Oh-Em-GEE!! That is, like, totes cray-cray!

I’d be hard pressed to tell which was worse, that or the pratfalling cartoon space duck from the PT.

Striking that balance between being “fanish” and professional is a tough thing since part of the charm comes from the former and part of the credibility comes from the latter.

Perhaps it has been discussed here, but I haven’t seen it. Why isn’t anyone talking about the possibility that Leia could be a Jedi? One would think that she is as strong in the force as Luke, only never nurtured and trained to harness that power. I think it would be a nice addition to see Leia as a Jedi Master.
