Collider’s Steven Weintraub’s thoughts on the Carrie Fisher involvement with Episode 7:

I don’t believe Carrie Fisher is going to be in STAR WARS episode 7. I have no inside info. Just my gut feeling.
— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) March 8, 2014

And here are a few tweets from a guy who claims to know some things about Episode 7. I spoke with him and some of the things he heard matched what I have heard. Still take this with a grain of salt as always:

Star Wars Episode VII announcement coming soon… #StarWarsVII

All I can say right now is that the Star Wars VII recasting is something, but it will be revealed in the very near future. #StarWarsVII

Just to announce that I used my released Star Wars VII details as a smokescreen for what I really know about the project. #StarWarsVII

In the next few days I’ll make an article summing up the latest rumors I’ve heard about Episode 7. There are just too many. I’ll tell you the most interesting and credible ones.

I personally believe that the Big 3 aren’t all coming back. Otherwise Disney would have announced their return already. Something’s fisher, I mean fishy.

I agree with you. Lets keep our fingers crossed they don’t come back. At first I wanted nothing more than to have them back, now I think its a bad idea. Lets move on, the originals had their time. New cast for a new generation of fans.

Personally I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they are indeed back. There’s this idea going around that if the big three return, then they will be the main characters and it will be the same story and there wont be a new cast. No, it will be a fresh new story, plot, villain, heroes, etc etc. But I have no idea why people have a problem with the big three coming back as age appropriate characters that pass on the mantle to this new trilogy. I imagine Luke will train the main character as a jedi, Leia and Han will be commanders and parents to some of the new cast too. It would be great to see. I just think Disney want to announce the whole thing after the actors weight loss so they can show Mark and Carrie off as slim and able actors. The shallow and moronic world of the internet would have gone in meltdown when if they had announced the big three a year and a half ago. People are still clinging onto nostalgia that they should all be young and fit and healthy and in their twenties and don’t want it any other way. They have no reason to announce anything so they can wait as long as they want, that is until May when shooting starts and it will be a nightmare to keep casting secrets.

The movie comes out in almost two years. Why would they have to announce the cast that soon? I expect their confirmation to come in May.

I’d be more inclined to believe that one or more of the “Big 3” weren’t coming back if we’d had other official casting announcements. But other than a few heavy rumors (like the Variety rumor about the villain character) we really haven’t gotten anything solid yet as to who’s going to be in this thing. It’s been sounding as though perhaps there are some issues finding the right people for the newer cast

It sounds more to me as though the marketing folks at MouseCo are trying to hold off and do a mass cast announcement once everyone is in place.

The notion that they would actually recast OT characters for this just doesn’t ring true. This is Star Wars, after all. It’s not like they can just “pull a Darrin” with one of the classic characters and not get major grief from SW fans about it.

IMHO if they are going to dump one of the OT actors, they’re much better off writing him (or her) out of the story entirely.

Just a matter of kinda sloppy writing in the first 2 seasons… Don’t know why season 5 is out of order though.

    • March 11, 2014 at 6:30 pm
      Permalink

Probably because they were making it up as they went along. Many of the Clone Wars stories tended to be self-contained, and since there was so much going on all over the galaxy, rather than a focus on a narrower storyline like what we saw in the movies, it makes sense that some of the stories would have ended up being told (and thought up!) out of order with one another.

I always thought it worked just fine in the order the episodes were shown in, though.

Hope they are all back but for me Luke is most importent.

    • March 11, 2014 at 6:28 pm

Yeah. Luke is the last jedi so I have no idea why people don’t want him to come back. He needs to come back to carry on and train in the jedi ways. Well either that or no jedi in ep7 ep8 or ep9. Leia is a senitor, commander, leader, general, princess etc so she will find some part to play somewhere. But then there’s Han, Chewie, Lando, who of course I love, but I have no idea what their use could be.

I think it would be a neat twist to not have any of the BIG 3 return. After ROTJ Luke very well could have went into isolation like Yoda and didn’t train any Jedi. Rather his legacy as a Jedi was to create a Jedi bible through holocrons for future generations to find. EP7 picks up 50 years after Luke’s death and could be about a Sith equivalent discovering the Jedi bible and converting to the good side by learning the ways of the force and establishing a Jedi order in a new way. Sort of like the Saul to Paul transformation in the Christian bible.

Truthfully I’d like that far more then anything they could/would do in the 30 years after ROTJ setting.

It also goes against all the indications that she will be in Ep7, such as the weight loss and comments from people close to her. Hell, she even SAID that she was going to be in the damn movie.

And ‘TheWARSguy’ can shove his ‘announcement coming soon’ and pathetic ‘smokescreen’ story up his ####. He’s obviously just some loser who thrives on pretending to know something that the general populous doesn’t. Get a life!

So, you add the tweet from the guy who said he had a gut feeling Fisher won’t be in the film? A gut feeling? No proof. Shit, he even says he doesn’t have proof, but no we’re still going to put it up just to add more fuel the fire of Fisher being recast when as of right now there’s more proof she’ll be on her way to England in a few months. I expect better from this site.

You’re missing the point. The guy who posted that is the Editor in Cheif of Collider. A very well respected site for me. There would be more to it if he actually had something, but he says himself he has nothing. Just a feeling. Based off what exactly? That tabloid story from last month? Yes, because in Hollywood they fire you for Maybe buying drugs from your dealer. If that were the case no movies would get made. The recast as of now has not basis in anything, and there is more reliable proof that she has not been recast, then there isn’t.

If it is true they are recasting someone, maybe that will mean they won’t be using the old characters as a crutch, so that a new generation will hold the spotlight? I know in the EU books, they tried to pass it on to a new generation, but killed most everyone in that generation and always reverted to banking on nostalgia. Hopefully a mistake not repeated, recast or no.

Well to be fair, they killed off a ton of characters in the Vong war and Second Galactic Civil war. While I know you personally despise the SGC nothing much interesting happens between then and the Second Imperial Civil war(which is far superior) but politics..

Recast means new actors for familiar roles, it would just be casting if it was for new characters. Plus since JJ took over the rumors have been that the characters from the OT are now the center of the story, not new characters.

And thank God for that, otherwise moderating would have been hell. The best way to be sure that your post won’t be accidentally marked as spam is to use a name and not the anon option. No Luke, no ticket. They don’t need all three back (necessarily) but any SW sequels that don’t have an old jedi master Luke Skywalker I can happily live without. A big part of the fun here will be the return of Hamill, seen plenty of Harrison (good though he is) Carrie should probably be there too though she’s not as important as Luke, 2nd half of the great mans life coming up or I’m out..
