UPDATE! Harrison Ford in Negotiations for a Role in a New TV Series Called Texas Ranger?

star wars

The ambitious production will be filmed in Durango, Mexico and has plans for the participation of artists like Ed Harris, Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford and Andy García. Filming begins in March which is only a few weeks before the start of principle photography of Star Wars: Episode7…

(2/22/14)
The companies behind the project are A&E Entertainment, History Channel and ITV , the largest TV company in Europe.

The production will last for 19 weeks which means, that a possible involvement of Harrison Ford with the project could directly interfere with the Episode 7 filming schedule.

Still there is no place for worries. There are no details on the roles, and all these actors could very well be guest stars in the Show. I really Doubt that Ford (71) would sign for a TV series with such staggering filming schedule. (Episode 7 is expected to be shot in less than 19 weeks). Most likely if he agrees to do it, the part will not be big.

UPDATE!

(3/12/14)
Deadline is reporting that History has given the green light for the project. It’s called Texas Rising (working title), for a 2015 premiere. They also revealed the cast and Harrison Ford is not one of them, at least for now.

From Deadline:

The project, which had been in the works at the cable network for a year and a half, comes from Leslie Greif, the producer of History’s first miniseries, mega hit Hatfields & McCoys. It will feature a big-name cast led by Hatfield & McCoys star Bill Paxton, who earned an Emmy nomination for his role as Randall McCoy. The project will detail the Texas Revolution against Mexico and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers.

Paxton will play Sam Houston, the father of Texas. He is joined by Brendan Fraser as Billy Anderson, a Texas Ranger with Comanche Indian ties; Ray Liotta as Lorca, an Alamo survivor seeking brutal revenge; Jeffrey Dean Morgan as “Deaf” Smith, a deaf and grizzled veteran Texas Ranger with an advanced case of consumption; Thomas Jane as James Wykoff, a homesteader who finds himself living in the middle of hostile Indian territory; Olivier Martinez as President General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the tyrant dictator of Mexico; Chad Michael Murray as Mirabeau Lamar, a spirited Texas soldier who helps win the battle of San Jacinto; Michael Rapaport as Sgt. Ephraim Knowles, a would-be deserter and coward turned hero; and Max Thieriot as Jack Hays, a volunteer freedom fighter who becomes the youngest Texas Ranger.

So for now Ford’s schedule looks free for the next few months… 🙂

In a similar way few weeks ago Benedict Cumberbatch who was rumored for a role in Episode 7 was attached to star in the thriller “Blood Mountain” from director Sergei Bodrov.
Principal photography for that project is slated to begin in April in Morocco which also questions Cumberbatch’s involvement with the new Star Wars movie.

One should not read to much into rumours, with the Carrie & Harrison rumour, the only thing missing is a Mark rumour. Maybe this is even more smokescreens to hide the fact that the big 3 is returning? Maybe we should all turn off our computers until May & start of filming?? 😀 this constant rumours going back & forth is a little nerve wrecking, so just give as a confirmation! I hope there is no problems this close to shooting & that they have everything under control…. 🙂

But that’s probably because it’s the biggest piece of news attached to this movie, and are waiting for the right moment. That’s my theory anyway. There’s got to be a reason as to why Ford and Hamill have been keeping quiet.

Either way, we’ll have a definite announcement before May when shooting starts

I think it’s because they want to announce them with pictures and little videos and stuff. Like when John Williams was confirmed they did a little video with him. I think they want Mark and Carrie to get in shape so that they do videos or pictures with the announcement, because there’s so much stigma and speculation from a lot of people about what Mark and Carrie look like and if they are up to the job or whatever. I think Disney want to showcase them with the announcement so are waiting for them to get in shape first. Just my theory.

sounds like a good theory, i´ll hope for that one 🙂 & pray that the Carrie rumour is false & that Harrison is still up for it, he could possibly be doing both things

I’m sure a cast announcement will hit soon enough. Everyone including Disney have said once you film outside the secrets over.

I can’t believe Harrison is 71… my god. The older you get the more sobering death becomes. Ugh depressing thoughts be gone!

“Who cares what projects the cast may have other than EP7.”
Well clearly you don’t but that doesn’t mean your opinion has to be everybody elses opinion. Plus you seem to be missing the point and ignoring the part about the schedules.

So Harrison Ford is to be in a TV show… big deal! Probably just a cameo anyway.
It’s still nothing to do with EP7 though, duh!!!!

Of course it’s not directly related to episode 7. Nobody has said that. But it’s worth mentioning. Come on don’t be so stupid, if Harrison is contracted for something that’s shooting at the same time as episode 7, then there is obviously going to be a problem. But i’m sure it’s safe to say that it’s not a big deal at all, his involvement could just be for a few days shooting or whatever. It only says he’s in negotiations anyway. But as I say, stuff like this is still worth mentioning.
“It’s still nothing to do with EP7 though, duh!!!!”
Well nobody is saying that. The only one being a baby and blowing this out of proportion is you. For god sake some people are so stupid it actually hurts.

No, it’s a western series, nothing to do with the Chuck Norris Texas Ranger series. I’m actually looking forward to this, since I really like Harrison Ford in westerns, loved his performance in cowboys and aliens.

Star wars episode 7 starts filming in May if this show starts filming in March then that is a whole two months before episode 7 starts filming NOT a few weeks as stated in the above article.

still, 19 weeks interfere, considering that filming for 7 starts in around 10 weeks.

Episode 7 starts filming in the first part of May and if the Texas Ranger starts in the last part of March this makes around 4-5 weeks between productions. In my book these are a few weeks.

Ford, Fisher and Hamill are already signed-on IMO. John Williams confirmed that he’s scoring Indy 5. Disney confirmed that they’re developing Indy 5. Both of these FACTS confirm the rumor that Ford wanted assurances about Indy 5.

Hamill recently did a Reddit interview where he all but confirmed his involvement by stating that he “didn’t want to spoil it.” You don’t spoil anything if there’s nothing to spoil (IE no involvement.)

Carrie Fisher has confirmed at least 4 different times that she’s in and that they’re required to start in March or April. All of these disgusting rumors of drugs and re-casting Leia are just tabloid muckrakers hard at work. Yes, Carrie has had drug problems in the past. However, she is a very smart woman. Smart enough to know she could easily piss away her best payday ever!

You’re right but everything is possible in Hollywood. Fisher indeed “confirmed” several times that she is in, but we all now that she is a jokester and her comments sounded more like a sarcastic remarks. What really surprised me was Hamill’s word on Reddit that still nothing is decided on the movie.
I’m not saying that the Big 3 are not returning for Episode 7, just we need to keep an open mind. Everything could happen, including unexpected last minute actor changes. Remember Megan Fox and Transformers 3?

Fans, and movie bloggers have been jumping to the conclusion that they are back.
If Carrie fisher was really back, she wouldn’t be saying a word because of how strong the Lucasfilm/Disney NDA’s would be. The interview that said that the big three would be back, the author of the article put that in their, she didn’t say it. In the Reddit interview Mark said he hadn’t talked to JJ, he has nothing to spoil. Harrison would be just fine if they recast Han Solo. As for Indiana Jones 5, mayybe that’s incentive so Harrison won’t talk.

well, Lucas himself has already said (many years ago) that the movies (7-9) would be about moral & philosofical questions & the offspring of the skywalker family, (& that star wars is a multigenerational saga), Luke having an Obi Wan type role as an old wise Jedi passing on the torch to younger generations, so at least Mark Hamill will be in it

Times have changed, and he’s been known to change his mind.
Thinking that the story, that’s coming now, is the same story from 1980, is foolish. Plus we have Disney, and JJ the masters of Iconic characters, and the characters are Iconic, not the actors.

I wish the new trilogy includes the big 3 kids and that they have a leading role …… the big 3 will ruine the trilogy if they have a leading role

    • February 23, 2014 at 12:34 pm
      Permalink

Well I highly doubt Luke, Leia, and Han will have leading roles. If they do have leading roles, then I imagine they will only centre stage for the first half. To introduce the story, villains, what’s been going on for the past 30 years, like their kids and stuff, and then they pass on the torch and the adventures to their kids for the main act of the film. I don’t think they will have leading LEADING roles. Just similar roles to Yoda, Obi-wan, etc etc, where their role is very important to the story, but they don’t get loads of screentime.

    • February 23, 2014 at 12:46 pm
      Permalink

Oh but I forgot to say, if they do indeed have leading roles, it wouldn’t ruin the trilogy. Let’s face it, it would still be really cool and a lot fun watching a badass Jedi master Luke, and then the wisecracking Leia and Han reunite for adventures. It wouldn’t ruin star wars, it would just be a missed opportunity to create and set up something new and fresh to the series. Which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just a bit of a shame. But just giving Luke, Leia, and Han silly cameos is a huge shame. So I hope there is a really good balance. They have the potential to be amazing films, even surpassing the original trilogy. Yes, that obviously sounds like a crazy thing to say, but let’s face it, what’s stopping these films from being nothing short of incredible? This isn’t like the prequels where George did everything with no help. Kathleen has said many times that she, Simon, Michael, Lawrence, and JJ have all spent days after days together in story meetings and having loads of discussions. And they are fans of star wars. Fans of star wars, who are good filmakers, have sat together to discuss the new films. This is amazing to hear. So if Luke Leia and Han do have leading roles, the storytelling and how it’s told will be brilliant. And if it is indeed all new, it would also be brilliant. But as I say, I hope there is a mix, at least for episode 7.

Harrison is also shooting Age of Adaline. Shooting dates for that film are March 10 – May 5 in Canada. Might be hard for him to be in Canada and Mexico if he has large roles in both deals. Either way, he should have plenty of time for episode 7. Also, with the exception of this site, I am having a hard time finding much info on the Texas Ranger project.

There will be no Blood Mountain, at least that’s what Benedict Cumberbatch himself told one of his fans who runs his semi-official web site benedictcumberbatch.co.uk. So, there is no interference of schedules if Benedict is indeed to be in SW7.

I think Benedict Cumberbatch is great. I love Sherlock and thought his role in Star Trek was fantastic. I do not, however, care to see him in Star Wars. I’ve seen him in so many other things lately that I think his presence might be distracting. I won’t be upset if he is cast and will, of course, see the movie anyway but I’ve got a bit of Cumberbatch fatigue.
