UPDATE! Rumor: Pixar to Make a Star Wars Movie?

star wars

Looks like Disney’s Star Wars plans are progressing on all fronts. First the new trilogy, then the spin-off movies, TV animations, comics and now an animated feature film made by Disney’s Pixar…

At least this is the latest rumor that Latino Review have heard:

Once the canon-purge is over and Episode VII is in production, there will be a whole universe of Star Wars related content to play in. We’ve heard about TV shows, new comics tie-ins (Marvel, of course), spin-off movies for particular characters and now, a Pixar film.

At this point, no idea what the size or shape of this film will be and given the long-view storytelling production model that is part of the Pixar brand, this could be a long way off. We can expect it to take place in the middle of a Venn Diagram between Star Wars and A Pixar Movie, and what that means to you depends on your definition of both.

UPDATE!

And now Bleeding Cool‘s great input on the story:

I’ve run this up the flagpole with some folk I know in and around the animation community and… well, they all but laughed.

Am I saying there aren’t plans for an animated Star Wars film? No. I’m just saying that they don’t have anything to do with Pixar.

I personally don’t believe that Disney would violate the seclusion of Pixar’s brand to do this. Maybe I’m wrong. But… if I am wrong, then why does every single person I know who might have had some whiff of this actually seem to have a very different idea of what’s going on? And the same very different idea?

So, sooner or later, expect to see another animated Star Wars movie. Maybe it will be directed by a Pixar vet. Maybe it will be produced by Pixar alums. Maybe the animators will all have Pixar titles on their resumes. Just don’t expect to see a hopping lamp in the opening credits.

Could this be the first ‘spin off’ movie?

Shouldn’t be any worse than TCW. That being said, I really hope this is a far-fetched rumor.

I hardly know where to start… The animation is awful, the entire series seemed to be based around cameos, they really fucked up continuity, lots of plot holes, poor dialouge; what’s there to like about it besides it being a Star Wars TV series?

And that’s why it won two Emmy’s (or was it Golden Globes) last year.
Some people have different opinions than you Dopy!!!!

I’m fully aware of how opinions differentiate between fans. I was simply stating mine. Whether or not it won awards for being a good stand-alone series, when its’ content is compared to episode 2 and 3 (where it’s supposed to be taking place in between), there are so many pieces that don’t fit and shouldn’t even be in the mix in the first place. I’ve never cared about the opinions of critics or judges; they’re no better or worse than anyone else’s in my eyes.

The thing that bugs me most about it is the animation. I can’t take any of it seriously because Star Wars just shouldn’t be portrayed in that unbearably childish way.

      @dopeyoe

Yeah, Star Wars shouldn’t be “unbearably childish,” like having a green one-eyed monster in a trash compactor. Oops, didn’t mean to say that.

Gotta agree with Dopey. The lightning-fast saber battles are an instant turn-off for me. The stories and the characters have that distinct EU feel, rather than being cut from the same cloth as the movies.

The Dianoga is far from childish and should never be used in comparison to the premature, infantile animation of the TCW. Just sit down and watch your children’s programing. Let the adults talk.

The Ewoks may have been childish (I personally don’t much care for them), but at least they are a much better addition to the Star Wars universe than Jar Jar or TCW.
Stop trying to validate your pathetic excuse for an arguement. There’s absolutly no way you can change my opinion on a horribly-animated Star Wars TV series. Your attempts are not worth my time or yours.

Why would you think your opinion is relevant to anyone?

Anyway it’s completely ridiculous to see the EU-bashing on here day after day. I can’t even begin to tell you how little sense it makes to group all of that content under one banner and give it the ol’ yea or nea. Frankly I don’t care if you liked TCW or any of the EU content (even the Thrawn Trilogy, which is when I totally stopped taking you seriously at all). But not a day will go by when I won’t hear about it so whatever. We’ll just keep waiting for this box-of-mystery called Episode VII that you’re somehow sure will be great while you bash Hugo-award winning authors and award-winning television.

Hey Dopey…. few quick questions…… When did you watch TCW series? When it first came out or somewhere in the middle? How long did you watch or
attempt to watch the show? how many episodes about?
I am just curious and respect your opinion but I’m trying to attempt at which point you based your opinion…..
please don’t rehash what you said before being childish or inconsistent story lines…. got that….

@dopeyjoe? Shut up. Quit validating the awesomeness of your childhood with your ridiculous claims that ewoks and the dianoga aren’t childish. Please realize that some of us grew up with clone wars and prequels and we like them.

The whole world doesn’t revolve around your childhood, DopeyJoe.

I grew up with the original trilogy who also enjoyed the prequel trilogy and TCW series as well…. I simply enjoy everything SW….including the possibility that the EU may not be
canon… so Dopey…. everyone has their own opinion which you should come to respect and not bash those who grew up and love the prequel trilogy time zone..
we know you don’t like them but is it really important to get all bent out of shape and defensivewith your opinion…. Chill out dude as SW is only fiction enjoyed by many….. 🙂

I completely understand and respect the opinions of others especially when it comes to Star Wars. There are just so many things to like about it and we all interpret the incredible, fictional universe in our own way. It seems to me like you guys are the ones having a hard time accepting opinions that differ from your own.
I’ve watched quite a bit of the Clone Wars series, otherwise it would be rather foolish of me to make any personal judgement on it whatsoever. I personally don’t enjoy it because, to me, the style of animation just really doesn’t fit with Star Wars. I’m aware that the universe doesn’t revolve around my childhood and I clearly stated above that Ewoks are childish when compared to the bulk of the OT material.

“Anyway it’s completely ridiculous to see the EU-bashing on here day after day. You must not have read any of my replies to your comments in past threads. I’ve never “bashed” the EU at all. I’ve enjoyed those stories my entire life, I would just rather see episode VII be a story of its’ own, but I really wouldn’t mind if some plot points are borrowed from the Thrawn trilogy. The Clone Wars had some really good moments from what I’ve seen, but like I said, it’s just hard for me to watch it as Star Wars because of the unsettling animation. You seem very quick to put words in people’s mouths. I guess it gives you a reason to show off your bountiful knowlege…
I apologize if I came off as someone who’s attempting to claim some amount of divinity by expressing my thoughts, but this is a Star Wars fan forum. Varying opinions should always be expected with such a topic.
I find it funny that you all seem to be trying to cut me to the bone with your insults and offensive rebuttles to an opinionated comment, like you all know me or something. I could be George-fuckin-Lucas for all you know 😉

Also, the thunderbirds style animation is so Annoying!!! Its like I’m so expecting characters from Team America to show up! Please change the animation style lucasfilm! It sooooo bad!
lots of other good ideas in the show though such as: pacing and screen shots, storylines along with some good writing.
I say show needs left to the kiddies, just hope their expectations of Star Wars don’t ruin my viewing experience of the films. my father loved OT he was in his fifties I’m pushing towards that by the end of this next trilogy. Hope I can enjoy it.

Brenda Chapman, who was directing Brave before being removed from her own project due to creative differences with head honcho John Lasseter, is now working at Lucasfilm. Last I heard she was producing or directing an animated film…I am shocked nobody here mentioned this little tidbit.
