UPDATE 2! New Leaked Concept Art of a Possible Episode VII Villain?
It appears that a new concept art with one of the Episode VII’s villains has been leaked on the web…
Head over to the Cantina boards HERE if you want to see, what appears to be a newly leaked concept art from Episode VII.
(via StarWarsUnderworld)
Beware, the image might be considered spoilerific if legit.
Actually when I saw this my first thoughts were it’s fake. But later after further examination and the words from one of our sources, I’m not so convinced. So take it as you like. 🙂
UPDATE!
The guys from IndieRevolver had a really intriguing update on the story:
Star Wars Underworld has posted a new image that was anonymously posted to an imageshack account purporting to be a piece of concept art from Episode VII of a villain holding a very strange looking lightsaber. I respect their hesitation to claim any authenticity related to the image – it’s nice to see some restraint with Star Wars news on the internet.
However, I can confirm that not only is this legitimate production art but that this particular concept made its way through pre-production and into the film. This character and his lightbroadsword have filmed scenes in England.
UPDATE 2!
And some thoughts from MakingStarWars:
The mask on what I have seen differs from the Star Wars Underworld mask. The mark is more like a crusader night. Just a shiny red metallic mask with a single visor straight across the front. Basically the red mask is like a helmet with a faceplate and visor that is a thin black line. His lightsaber is red, not orange like some depictions we have seen of bad guys in the past. He looks like Darth Revan mixed with the Emperor’s Royal Guards from the previous six Star Wars films.
For the full piece check their site. I just wanted to mention that I still stand behind the words of one of our sources that no major characters in Episode VII will be a cyborg or have any metal parts…

Can you please stop linking everything to the Cantina and just show the image here!!! Not all of us really want to use the Cantina some of us just want to read the post and go!
What the hell is the Cantina? lol
I’m not posting stolen art on my blog.
Nah. Feels like a fan made thing, and that weapon is just too silly to be a real concept.
Yeah, seems 99.9% fan made. Times are a slow on the news front. I think I’ll come back to the site after the trailer is released…
Nonsense! never a dull moment on here.
The “sword” is really silly, I must agree… Let’s wait to see if it is legit or not…
I really hope they dont use that lightsaber in the movie…it is completely dumb looking
without the side hilt saber thingys it could look cool. Kind of looks like a medieval sword (cross) or like something linked to LOTR. But it would be better as a three prong Sai saber.
What the hell? hahahahaha that lightsaber cross is awful.
Not….confidently not.
I’m so glad everyone’s on the same page about that hilt. The Excalibur look really wouldn’t do well with light sabers.
What if the hilt was made completely out of metal? Would that help any?
That’d be a little better, but it would still just be another Sith that has to have some kind of out-of-the-ordinary light saber to give them an “edge,’ which just leads us to believe that the character must be pretty uninteresting; like Maul, the Inquisitor, Ventress and Dooku (all opinionated of course).
If this is true, it’s a step in the opposite direction from where I personally thought this project was headed. To me, a light saber is more reminiscent of a wise samurai’s katana rather than a noble knight’s broadsword. It just seems a lot more elegant and balanced in that context. Just think about an armored knight going up against a swift, agile samurai. Doesn’t seem like the knight would have much of a chance in that scenario with a bulky weapon.
A design like this cross hilt takes so much out of the unique ambiance in the SWU, forcefully cramming it into a framework of fantasy. The Clone Wars series did the exact same thing by manipulating the idea of the Force into a childish, “harry potter” type of mysticism rather than portraying it as an existential balance of energy that branches out into every living thing and keeps the universe in motion as is explained by Yoda and Ben in the OT.
Real but not main villain. The guards to *****.
Fake
Bull
Can’t believe they even post this. This has Fakkey Mc Fake written all over it
Viral why are you posting shit now?
Here I thought they where more concept art pictures not this… LOL
http://boards.theforce.net/threads/daisy-ridley-in-episode-vii.50019976/page-218
There’s a guy on here ^ Named jimjamjim or something. Talks about how he’s seen the final fight scene and accurately decribes this “Medievel Knighted Light Saber”. Comment was posted a week before this article. I’m really 50/50 on the sword tho :/
Good. We know who faked the pic now… 🙂
Lol, it is an interesting concept for a light saber though. I mean it does protect the hands. I just get the “fake” feeling cause it’s so bizarre from what we’ve seen before. And the fact that the guy looks like a homemade Revan costume.
It doesn’t protect the hands at all. It limits the movement of the saber itself. If the user were to attempt to twirl the blade at all, he/she would slice his/her own hands clean off. Stupid design, and hope it’s fake.
For concept art it looks a bit to produced. I mean concepts are usually drawn, this looks like a photo and it’s been photoshopped. Why would you go through the trouble to “light” a light saber for concept art that is never meant to be seen outside the studio or to get director approval as a direction to go?
Like the post said, it looks like Revan but with one of the stupidest lightsabers I’ve seen to date. I sure hope that’s fan made because this doesn’t match up with any of the previous ideas of the villain we’ve seen, and that lightsaber *shudder* is so bad.
Nice attempt at getting people to go the the forums. Nice one, mate.
Sorry to disappoint some of you but this is really legit. More confirmations coming from different places.
Well, if this is legit, Ep. VII is headed in a direction that might make the PT look like Academy Award winning films.
Terrible concept: unimaginative, unoriginal, not scary or interesting at all. Just one more darksider trying to be the top dog in the galaxy that inspires a “meh, been there, done that” feeling, if anything.
Assuming for the moment this is true…
Judging the movie and character based on that seems rash
Well, this may be a bad signal, but I don´t know yet. The cross in the lightsaber really seems awful to me and the costume is just so unimaginative, but even though everything will depends in how it will be shown in the movie. It´s my only hope
Legit that its fan made? LOL
Yes you always have all this insider information like you are a kind of spy Viral, but what I see here is a f*cking Power Ranger baddy. Believing it makes you a bit naive.
Legit concept art, or legit in the movie as is including the saber design?
Given that this is concept art it was probably one of many versions of an updated Sith light saber. With that said I doubt this would the version that was chosen.
So I guess that’s Adam Driver’s costume?
Don’t hate it or love it. Would like to hear some explanation on the two side swords coming out the hilt.. I think they’re going with a PM feel (maul dawning the double bladed saber)
Now this is some major b.s.
It is a fanmade fake looking picture this is a real sword he is holding … and the hilt has been made into little lightsabers bullshit how ahum practical is this saber what use should it have…hahaha he would hurt his own hand swinging this saber…
Please – BS
I actually like the lightsaber hilt. If they’re using a villain from the past, aka ancient fear, it makes sense to use a lightsaber that looks like an older model. Plus it reenforces the concept of the Jedi as knights (Dark or otherwise). The Sith does look a lot like Revan though. If that won’t be the identity of the villain, I feel like that would be confusing to the older fans, using a similar appearance. If it does turn out to be a female Sith, that’d be badass. But if it’s a slim male, Adam Driver would fit the bill. Or possibly Gleeson.
Is it just me or does the mask/helmet look like IG-88?
The mask is terrible. Looks like Max Rebo is now a Sith.
Maybe it’s Assajj Ventress?
Still hanging on?
“This character and HIS lightbroadsword..”

MSW take. Mentions a possible slightly different look to the final version of the Sabers.
IF the setting of these news movies is a galaxy-wide “dark ages”—like has been speculated—it makes sense for the new designs of these movies to have a Medieval aesthetic. I like it.
Perhaps it’ll end up looking like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BDO3pyavOY
Looks totally awesome. One of the coolest images yet from this film. Very understated. Very Star Wars in feel without being redundant to anything in the actual films. I’m guessing it’s only the angle that gives it the Max Rebo muzzle illusion. I’ll bet it’s actually shaped more like the Quiet Riot mask.
They’re not the using prequel production staff on this one but it sure feels like it. Part of me hopes the Luke’s son has turned to the dark side rumor is true. But its like the Sith collector, Darth Driver. How many films did he sign for?
The real question bro is whether or not he’s acting alone. Could he be under a higher evil? We don’t know this and may not be revealed until Episode VIII. There is no script yet.
I’m totally shocked that most of you don’t seem to love this at first sight. I’m a VERY hard sell when it comes to Star Wars (the opposite of a brand loyalist) and I like the fire-like rough edges of this antique light Saber’s glow. I like the rough fur-like texture of the cape and I love the overall simplicity of the mask (after seeing so many lame EU sith designs with mechanical chicken legs mechanical nose clamps or other arbitrary flourishes I’m pleasantly surprised that Hollywood is capable of this kind of simplicity. It’s very Germanic like Max Von Sidow’s knight from the Seventh Seal. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was Gwen’s character.
Holy Sith. This is true, then. At least we’ll see an alternative version of Revan in the movie :v
But I don’t know. That cross is weird, but let’s see. Probably I’m going to like it.
If he stabs it into the ground it’ll look like a burning cross, a symbol of looking backward towards a false mythic purity. Upright it’s just a burning upside down cross!
Anakin and Luke are cyborgs as they have mechancial parts.
Of course when people think cyborgs it’s more Vader-like or Cyborg from DC.
Wouldn’t be surprised if someone looks something like that in the movie.
Looks like a sith Jar Jar.
Didn’t like it at first. I like it the more I’ve read about it though from; this site, MSW, and force.net. If this “Sith Collector” has found the sword, it gives the ancient/strange look. Something we haven’t seen before and possibly forgotten in SW universe. We only know back to PM and that was only a lifetime away(anything before no longer exists)in this story. It’s very possible that this thing could be an ancient Sith saber? possibly one of first lightsabers? I’m just spit balling here though. My point is that this thing may SUPPOSED to be bizarre looking. It’s something new, strange, and different…which is exactly what I want in a villain for EP VII.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers is listed as “Korr Sella” on imdb.com
May be legit / May not be. Whatever.
Interesting…
I noticed that too…..wondered who a korr sella was?!?
I hope its not real because I don’t dig the look at all.
It looks utterly ridiculous. And, the two swords on the lightsabre hilt serves nothing and would just be meaningless in combat. And the face… It is 100% fake.
If it is fake does that confirm the Jj/mystery box misdirection crew is real? Seems to be a lot different sites all claiming to have sources backing this up.
It would be a cool look for spooky Hordes of Sith if there were such things in sequels, menacing in that way, but don’t see it as a Sith type single operator personality look.
A good unknown Sith stormtrooper type of look.
Its like jason vorhees (haloween franchise) but with a jock strap or codpeice. Hes an angry sith because he keeps getting called a dick head and with good cause too.
Please leave the cross to Earth citizens :-)Regarding cyborg – anyone could be it. Could be a minor character in 7 but mayor in 8-9
main villian? NO WAY.
Henchman(men)? Just Maybe
seeing that in a dark room would look better,
a real sith would NOT use a lightsaber that could knock your hand off if you lose your grip, or turn it the wrong way, or do ANYTHING with it. I mean com’on, the cross-bars could be cool, but not when you design it like THAT.
But as mentioned before, perhaps this is SUPPOSED to look bizarre or downright ridiculous.
Kinda has that wannabe Sithlord look doesn’t it.
This is someone who would scare the newcomers, the newcomers ask luke for help.
Luke takes one look at this guy and rolls his eyes, gets this guy in blade-lock, pushes the ill-placed cross-bar through the guy’s wrist, and gets straight to the “who do work for?!” questioning.
Thoughts anyone?
PS> this was probably commissioned by JJ, built and actually brought to the set while filming, just to mess with our heads. oldest trick in the book.
Might be useful against vampire Jedi, though!
I’m imagining. We are forgeting one actor: Mitos Idon’tknowhiscompletename. If he is the villain? Or perhaps some Jedi Master?
Everything looks cool to me except that giant dick-nose. Surely it’s just an illusion in this blurry photo. Pretty darn goofy looking.
Agree! Somebody’s telling porkies with that image – maybe JJ?
Sai saber!!
it could work if the character beneath the robe and mask is cool.
Could be wrong? BUT! looks to me as those are crystals powering the saber and not mini sabers?
To be fair, that’s an incredibly practical sword. Take for example Dooku’s final fight, with a guard he might have won.
It is only practical if you don’t mind cutting off your own hand if you bend your wrist. It reminds me of impractical wall hanger fantasy swords with blade guards that curve down towards your hand. Why not something like the electrostaff material if they want to block lightsabers?
Nope! That would have taken a serious rewrite.
I am sick of losing a post because this comment system thinks I’m “posting to fast.” It was my first post you stupid machine!!!!
And I had to retype this one too!!!
Are you experiencing this issue from some time now or just recently?
For a few weeks at least, and more frequently in the past few days and on initial posts. I had to re-paste this one twice now.
OK, we will check this.
I got this as well on my first post in quite a while. Thing is, though, my comment posted anyway.
Probably your wi-fi keeps losing connectivity. Could be Chrome, could be ISP.
Not on chrome, not using wi-fi. Haven’t had the problem on any other site.
I’ve had that same error message on several occasions, but it’s because I’m having problems with my wi-fi connectivity, which I’m still in the process of resolving.
Your problem may be similar, i.e. internet connection problems.
Another point in defense of the sword: yes, in reality it would cut off your own hands but so would a regular lightsaber. Lightsabers are extremely unforgiving weapons which is why only jedi tend to use them. It makes sense that in earlier days they were even less forgiving (with the hand guards) and therefore even more “force user exclusive”. You know, it’s like a fixed gear bike or an old fashoned non-rotating barbell that would break a beginners wrists.
But when you make the guard out of saber blades, you are limiting how you can use it when they are on. And there are better ways to have a lightsaber proof guard.
Also, it just looks silly and fan made. It reminds me of Maul’s saber in the Lego special when even more blades came out.
I’m not feeling it.
Did the Sith collector find a Darth Revan like mask?
Its Khan!
Highlander meets Star Wars is this what we are being prepared to see?
I now believe that some of the concept art leaks have been purposely done to gauge reactions of fans.
Feels more Braveheart than Highlander. “They can take our land, but they can never take… our Sheevdom!!!”
Oh come on people! That’s a total rip off of Darth Revan! Why everybody else isn’t screaming this the second they see it, I don’t know, but, without a doubt FAKE.
First news/art that has made me have doubts………
Yep it is Darth Revan .I had to look him up on Wikipedia.
I did not know who he was.
Wait and see I guess on this one rumour.
I did find a few sites listing him as a possible villain for the movie.
Plenty of bickering going on right now about Luke being the cyborg. Look, we were told as much in the Variety article months ago and an MTV interview with one of Driver’s friends. He is clearly the villain. Unless Driver friend has a reason to lie? And Variety has a reason to post false information? These leaks are all coming from bad sources/JJ Abrams misinformation team mixed in with trolls who have nothing better to do after school but get people riled up on the internet.
This character would be one and the same as the cyborg. The concept art does a good job of throwing people off showing 2 different characters even though I’m assuming it wasn’t intentional. If this is Han Solo’s son, Adam Driver, would he be playing a cyborg? Driver appears onscreen without any sort of facial modification.
The other aspect which intrigues me is the self-modification the villain undergoes after a tragedy. These details leaked by GabrielGrey and Jason Ward on Twitter. If Driver is not a cyborg, how would he modify his body then? Some sort of sick fascination with self mutilation?
