The Seventh Season of ‘The Clone Wars’ Will Arrive on Disney+ Starting February 17

It’s official: we now have a return date for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7, which was completed thanks to continued fan support and Dave Filoni’s prominence within Lucasfilm. The series will be back with 12 new episodes on Disney+, starting on February 17.

In the midst of a video compiling many of the big Disney updates for 2020, Oh My Disney shared the release date info about the seventh and seemingly final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, after the show was saved from cancellation twice. The video also reiterates that the second season of The Mandalorian will hit that same year, along with a reminder that the Rise of the Resistance attraction at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland Resort on January 17 after opening in Disney World last month. (Curiously, there was not a mention of Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2020, which is expected to be crucial for revealing what the future of the franchise is.)

There is currently no word if Lucasfilm are going to dump all 12 episodes in the final season of The Clone Wars on Disney+ at once, or if they will stagger them out on a weekly basis like they have with all their original programming so far. Considering how much The Mandalorian was able to dominate online conversation with a weekly format rather than a binge-friendly one, it seems like the winning strategy will be to add episodes every week. Better yet, if this holds true, then the final episode should surface just in time for May 4, an unofficial Star Wars fan holiday. (That may also explain the odd release pattern of dropping new episodes on Monday nights, which is unusual for a streaming series.) Perhaps we’ll learn about the future of Star Wars animated shows right around then…

The first six seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars are available to watch on DVD and Blu-Ray, along with Disney+. However, unless otherwise stated, the seventh season will remain a Disney+ exclusive indefinitely.
